Abuse Potential of Synthetic Cannabinoids: AM-1248, CB-13, and PB-22

  • Currently, the expanding recreational use of synthetic cannabinoids (SCBs) threatens public health. SCBs produce psychoactive effects similar to those of tetrahydrocannabinol, the main component of cannabis, and additionally induce unexpected pharmacological side effects. SCBs are falsely advertised as legal and safe, but in reality, SCB abuse has been reported to cause acute intoxication and addictive disorders. However, because of the lack of scientific evidence to elucidate their dangerous pharmacological effects, SCBs are weakly regulated and continue to circulate in illegal drug markets. In the present study, the intravenous self-administration (IVSA) paradigm was used to evaluate the abuse potential of three SCBs (AM-1248, CB-13, and PB-22) in rats. All three SCBs maintained IVSA with a large number of infusions and active lever presses, demonstrating their reinforcing effects. The increase of active lever presses was particularly significant during the early IVSA sessions, indicating the reinforcement-enhancing effects of the SCBs (AM-1248 and CB-13). The number of inactive lever presses was significantly higher in the SCB groups (AM-1248 and CB-13) than that in the vehicle group, indicating their impulsive effects. In summary, these results demonstrated that SCBs have distinct pharmacological properties and abuse potential.

NFT ART의 특성이 지각된 가치에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (Investigating the Influence of NFT ART Characteristics on Consumer Perceived Value: Insights from Purchasing Experience)

  • Purpose: Non-Fungible Token (NFT) ART, based on NFT technology, represents a novel form of art that has recently garnered significant attention in the art market. NFT technology enables the assertion of ownership over digital data, introducing the concept of ownership into the digital realm. As digital data gains ownership, NFT ART is anticipated to be positively viewed as an investment and expected to become more active due to the characteristics of this new technology. Therefore, this study aims to verify the influence of NFT ART characteristics on perceived value. This study contributes to extracting the distinctive characteristics of NFT ART compared to other forms of art and to understanding the perceived value of NFT ART among consumers with purchasing experience. Methods: This study applied structural equation modeling to explore the relationships among the variables using SPSS 26.0 and R program version 4.2.3. A total of 320 questionnaires were retrieved, all of which were adopted as valid analytical samples without missing values. Results: The findings indicate that the decentralization, transparency, and scarcity of NFT ART positively influence the perceived usefulness and enjoyment among consumers, while security does not have a significant impact. This suggests that higher levels of decentralization, transparency, and scarcity in NFT ART enhance perceived usefulness and enjoyment for consumers, significantly influencing the perceived value. Furthermore, it was confirmed that these characteristics are considered important values and perceptions from the consumer's perspective. Conclusion: The research presents positive factors for the activating of purchases among consumers considering buying NFT ART. It emphasizes the necessity of benefits for all participants to activate the art market. Additionally, the perceived value provides crucial insights for inducing active purchasing behavior in the NFT ART market and serves as a foundational study for further research.

  • Natural products are a rich source of biologically active small molecules and a fertile area for lead discovery of new drugs [10, 52]. For instance, 5% of the 1,031 new chemical entities approved as drugs by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) were natural products between 1981 and 2002, and another 23% were natural product-derived molecules [53]. These molecules have evolved through millions of years of natural selection to interact with biomolecules in the cells or organisms and offer unrivaled chemical and structural diversity [14, 37]. Nonetheless, a large percentage of nature remains unexplored, in particular, in the marine and microbial environments. Therefore, natural products are still major valuable sources of innovative therapeutic agents for human diseases. However, even when a natural product is found to exhibit biological activity, the cellular target and mode of action of the compound are mostly mysterious. This is also true of many natural products that are currently under clinical trials or have already been approved as clinical drugs [11]. The lack of information on a definitive cellular target for a biologically active natural product prevents the rational design and development of more potent therapeutics. Therefore, there is a great need for new techniques to expedite the rapid identification and validation of cellular targets for biologically active natural products. Chemical genomics is a new integrated research engine toward functional studies of genome and drug discovery [40, 69]. The identification and validation of cellular receptors of biologically active small molecules is one of the key goals of the discipline. This eventually facilitates subsequent rational drug design, and provides valuable information on the receptors in cellular processes. Indeed, several biologically crucial proteins have already been identified as targets for natural products using chemical genomics approach (Table 1). Herein, the representative case studies of chemical genomics using natural products derived from microbes, marine sources, and plants will be introduced.

활동적 생활환경 조성을 통한 신체활동증진 (Physical activity promotion through active living environments)

  • Objectives: Members of Korean Healthy Cities Partnership(KHCP) has increased rapidly since 2006 and adopted Active Living Environments(ALE) as common theme in 2015. Academic definition and categorization, needs assessment and operational planning for making active living environments were required from KHCP. Methods: Literatures review, survey to members of KHCP, specialist discussion and consultation with members of KHCP have been done from October of 2015 to February of 2016. Results: ALE included humane(social networks), physical and political resources. Three categories and 13 items for ALE were identified. Present actions among member cities were variable and especially immature in physical environments. Indicators for ALE were not secured stably. Requirements for policy and physical environmental approach and adolescent programme were high. Priority areas for education and technical assistance were master planning, guideline and case, program and policy development, partnership development, and networking among cities. Representative projects among member cities were somewhat different from ideal models. Conclusions: Policy and environmental approaches needs to be reinforeced systemically for members of KHCP including securing stable indicators. More education and technical assistance also needed sustainably.

우리나라 경제활동여성인구의 직종별 문제음주 영향요인에 관한 융복합 연구 (Convergence Study on the Influencing Factors of Problem Drinking by Job Type of Economically Active Female Population in Korea)

  • 본 연구는 경제활동을 하는 여성의 직종별 문제음주 영향요인을 분석하고자 시도되었다. 본 연구는 제6기 국민건강영양조사 자료를 활용하여 만 19세 이상 경제활동을 하고 있는 여성을 대상으로 인구사회학적 특성, 건강관련 특성 및 문제음주 여부를 파악하였다. 자료분석은 IBM SPSS 25.0 프로그램을 이용하여 복합표본설계를 적용하였다. 연구결과, 우리나라 경제활동을 하는 여성의 문제음주율은 19.1% 였으며 사무직 19.1%, 생산직 24.8%, 서비스직 12.3%로 직종별 차이를 보였다. 문제음주의 영향요인 또한 직종별 차이를 보였는데 사무직의 경우 주관적 건강상태가, 서비스직의 경우 결혼상태, 흡연이, 생산직의 경우는 결혼상태가 문제음주에 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 여성의 문제음주율을 낮추기 위해서는 남성과는 다른 여성의 신체적, 정서적 특성과 함께 직종별 특성 등을 고려한 융복합적인 직종별 맞춤형 음주관리 프로그램의 개발이 필요함을 시사하며 본 연구결과는 이를 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Biological Control Potential of Penicillium brasilianum against Fire Blight Disease

  • Erwinia amylovora is a causative pathogen of fire blight disease, affecting apple, pear, and other rosaceous plants. Currently, management of fire blight relies on cultural and chemical practices, whereas it has been known that few biological resources exhibit disease control efficacy against the fire blight. In the current study, we found that an SFC20201208-M01 fungal isolate exhibits antibacterial activity against E. amylovora TS3128, and the isolate was identified as a Penicillium brasilianum based on the 𝛽-tubulin (BenA) gene sequence. To identify active compounds from the P. brasilianum culture, the culture filtrate was partitioned with ethyl acetate and n-butanol sequentially. From the ethyl acetate layer, we identified two new compounds (compounds 3-4) and two known compounds (compounds 1-2) based on spectroscopic analyses and comparison with literature data. Of these active compounds, penicillic acid (1) exhibited promising antibacterial activity against E. amylovora TS3128 with a minimal inhibitory concentration value of 25 ㎍/ml. When culture filtrate and penicillic acid (125 ㎍/ml) were applied onto Chinese pearleaf crab apple seedlings prior to inoculation of E. amylovora TS3128, the development of fire blight disease was effectively suppressed in the treated plants. Our results provide new insight into the biocontrol potential of P. brasilianum SFC20201208-M01 with an active ingredient to control fire blight.

Ginsenoside compound K protects against cerebral ischemia/ reperfusion injury via Mul1/Mfn2-mediated mitochondrial dynamics and bioenergy

  • Background: Ginsenoside compound K (CK), the main active metabolite in Panax ginseng, has shown good safety and bioavailability in clinical trials and exerts neuroprotective effects in cerebral ischemic stroke. However, its potential role in the prevention of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury remains unclear. Our study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanism of ginsenoside CK against cerebral I/R injury. Methods: We used a combination of in vitro and in vivo models, including oxygen and glucose deprivation/reperfusion induced PC12 cell model and middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion induced rat model, to mimic I/R injury. Intracellular oxygen consumption and extracellular acidification rate were analyzed by Seahorse multifunctional energy metabolism system; ATP production was detected by luciferase method. The number and size of mitochondria were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy and MitoTracker probe combined with confocal laser microscopy. The potential mechanisms of ginsenoside CK on mitochondrial dynamics and bioenergy were evaluated by RNA interference, pharmacological antagonism combined with co-immunoprecipitation analysis and phenotypic analysis. Results: Ginsenoside CK pretreatment could attenuate mitochondrial translocation of DRP1, mitophagy, mitochondrial apoptosis, and neuronal bioenergy imbalance against cerebral I/R injury in both in vitro and in vivo models. Our data also confirmed that ginsenoside CK administration could reduce the binding affinity of Mul1 and Mfn2 to inhibit the ubiquitination and degradation of Mfn2, thereby elevating the protein level of Mfn2 in cerebral I/R injury. Conclusion: These data provide evidence that ginsenoside CK may be a promising therapeutic agent against cerebral I/R injury via Mul1/Mfn2 mediated mitochondrial dynamics and bioenergy.

2006년 태풍 특징과 태풍 예보의 개선방향 (Characteristics of Typhoon in 2006 and Improvement of Typhoon Forecast)

  • The purpose of this study is to summarize tropical cyclone activity in 2006. Twenty three tropical cyclones of tropical storm (TS) intensity or higher formed in the western North Pacific and the South China Sea in 2006. The total number is less than the thirty-year (1971~2000) average frequency of 26.7. Out of twenty three tropical cyclones, fifteen cyclones reached typhoon (TY) intensity, while the rest eight cyclones only reached severe tropical storm (STS) and tropical storm (TS) intensity - three STS and five TS storms. The tropical cyclone season in 2006 began in May with the formation of CHANCHU (0601). The convective activity was slightly inactive around the Philippines from late June to early August. In addition, subtropical high was more enhanced than normal over the south of Japan from May to early August. Consequently, most tropical cyclones formed over the sea east of the Philippines after late June, and many of them moved westwards to China. CHANCHU (0601), BILIS (0604), KAEMI (0605), PRAPIROON (0606) and SAOMI (0608) brought damage to China, the Philippines, and Vietnam. On the other hand, EWINIAR (0603) moved northwards and hit the Republic of Korea, causing damage to the country. From late August to early September, convective activity was temporarily inactive over the sea east of the Philippines. However, it turned active again after late September. Subtropical high was weak over the south of Japan after late August. Therefore, most tropical cyclones formed over the sea east of the Philippines and moved northwards. WUKONG (0610) and SHANSHAN (0613) hit Japan to bring damage to the country. On the other hand, XANGSANE (0615) and CIMARON (0619) moved westwards in the South China Sea, causing damage to the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Another special feature in 2006 tropical cyclone activity is that IOKE (0612) formed in the central North Pacific crossed 180 degree longitude and moved into the western North Pacific. It has been four years since HUKO (0224) in 2002.

지방자치제에 따른 보건의료사업을 위한 보건소 모델개발연구 (Policy Development on Health Administration System in the Era of Local Autonomous Government)

  • As the WTO system launches through the agreement of Uruguay Round, the Government has to revise the office regulations or reform the system. Also, Integrating and Coordinating the like affair in health care (i. e., children's home, industry health, school health, health manpower, the administration of health center, the administration on food hygiene, health environmental education, and so on.) which is now scattered into some government departments like the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Environment, the Government has to prevent unspecialty, inefficiency, inconsistency, and uneconomy. The Government has to review and adopt above suggested the Proposal 1),2),3),4) of the Health Centers on the basis of the local autonomy law and it will help the successive settlement of the local autonomy system in Korea. According to the suggested proposal, the Central Government mainly takes charge of the Macro affairs as hardware, and transfer the Micro affairs as software into the Local Governments to attempt the appropriate functional allocation. To achieve it successfully, the Central Government also has to do the financial support, manpower training and technical support, allocation of health care resources, direction and control, research and development and the health care plan on the macro level. Local Governments which divided into the wide local government and basic local government also have to do their best for health improvement of the community societies like plan of health care program, implementation of health care service program, taking charge of the affairs of health insurance, activation of community residents' participation and security of health care resources etc. To achieve this goal, the Government have to be more active and reformative, the related social and health agencies and educational agencies have to cooperate and support for the goals, and especially, the community residents have to participate actively and voluntarily, When all these conditions promote, local health care administration will be developed, and health level of community residents will be secured. And going one step forward, the country and people will be more healthy

사염화탄소와 Dimethylnitrosamine의 반복투여가 백서간의 형태학적 변화에 미치는 영향 (Morphologic Change of Rat Liver Induced by Repeated Administration of Carbon Tetrachloride and Dimethylnitrosamine)

  • 동물의 간소엽에 심한 지방성병변과 괴사성병변을 일으키는 사염화탄소와 이와 비슷한 독작용을 가지고 동물의 간소엽에 심한 출혈성 괴사성병변을 초래하는 Dimethylnitrosamine이 동일물질의 2~3회 반복투여에 의해서 어떠한 영향을 받는가를 비교, 관찰하기 위하여 체중 150~200gm의 백서를 실험동물로 사용하여 Sublethal dose의 사염화탄소(0.4ml/kg)와 DMN(40mg/kg)을 1회, 2회 및 3회 복강내로 주입하여 간소엽에 나타난 병리조직학적 병변을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 사염화탄소를 1회 투여한 동물의 간소엽에 있어서 지방변성 괴사성병변에 비해 2회 또는 3회 반복투여한 동물의 병변정도가 경하였고, 또 간세포나 동양세포의 재생성 변화도 더 빨리 일어났다. 2. DMN을 1회 투여한 동물에 있어서의 괴사성병변은 2회 또는 3회 투여한 군의 그것과 큰 차이는 없었지만 간세포의 증식성 변화는 DMN의 투여회수가 많을수록 비례해서 강하게 나타나는 경향을 보였다.
