Anti-adhesion coatings are very important in the processing of adhesive materials such as optical clear adhesive (OCA) films. Choosing the appropriate release coating material for dies and tools can be quite challenging. Hydrophobic surface treatment is usually performed, and its performance is often estimated by the static water contact angle (CA). However, the relationship between the release performance and the CA is not well understood. In this study, the water CAs of surfaces coated with anti-adhesion materials and the peel strengths of the acrylic-based adhesive films are evaluated. STC5 and SUS304 are selected as the base materials. Base materials with different surface roughnesses are produced by hairline finishing, mirror-polishing, and end milling. Four fluoropolymer compounds, including a self-assembled monolayer, are selected to make the base surface hydrophobic. Static, advancing, and receding CAs are mostly increased due to the coating, but the CA hysteresis is found to increase or decrease depending on the coating material. The peel strengths all decreased after coating and are largely dependent on the coating material, with significantly lower values observed for fluorosilane and perfluoropolyether silane coatings. The peel strength is observed to correlate better with the static CA and advancing CA than with the receding CA or hysteresis. However, it is not possible to accurately predict the anti-adhesion performance based on water CA alone, as the peel strengths are not fully proportional to the CAs.

This study was focused on applying a new paper coating binder, vinyl acetate-ethylene(VAE) emulsion, with SB-latex and acrylic emulsion for paper coating application. VAE emulsion has a low monomer cost and is non-toxic chemical than conventional adhesive for paper coating such as styrene-butadiene latex( SB-latex) and acrylic emulsion. We conducted double coating in order to test VAE emulsion, which was applied on top surface only. The results showed that optical properties of the coated paper with VAE were similar with the SB-latex binders. In case of bonding strength, dry-pick of the coated paper with VAE showed almost same with other binders while wet-pick of the coated paper with VAE had a little bit lower strength than that with SB-latex.

This paper presents the results of a study on the optimal footpad design for vertical climbing on acrylic surfaces with various curvatures used Taguchi methods. For a climbing robot, the adhesion system plays an important role in the climbing process. Only an appropriate adhesion strength will prevent the robot from falling and allow it to climb normally. Therefore, the footpad is a significant parameter for a climbing robot and should be studied. Taguchi methods were used to obtain a robust optimal design, where the design variables were the flat tacky elastomeric shape, area, thickness, and foam thickness of the footpad. Experiments were conducted using acrylic surfaces with various curvatures. An optimized footpad was selected based on the results of the experiments and analysis, and the stability of the wall-climbing robot was verified.
Direct thermal lamination of polyethylene film on aluminum plate without using adhesive was tried by modifying their surfaces to have polar groups. Polyethylene film was modified by treating with oxygen or acrylic acid plasma. Aluminum plate was modified by treating with boiling water or diaminocyclohexane plasma. Fairly high adhesion strength was obtained even in the case when only the polyethylene film was modified, and adhesion strength was so high that film was broken during the adhesion test if both the film and the aluminum plate were modified. Even chemical bonding seemed to be possible when the film treated with acrylic acid was laminated on the plate treated with diaminocyclohexane plasma by forming amide linkage through the reaction between COOH groups on the film surface and NH$_2$ groups on the plate surface.
A series of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) based hot melt adhesives containing different types and compositions of tackifier resins were prepared to investigate their rheological behavior and T-peel adhesion strength on polyurethane (PU) elastomeric sheets. C5 aliphatic hydrocarbon resin (C5 resin), C9 aromatic hydrocarbon resin (C9 resin), hydrogenated dicyclopentadiene resin ($H_2$-DCPD resin), and dicyclopentadiene and acrylic monomer copolymer resin (DCPD-acrylic resin) were used as the tackifiers for the hot melt adhesives. To determine the polarity of the tackifiers, their oxygen contents were analyzed, and the DCPDacrylic resin was found to contain an oxygen content higher than the other tackifiers. Only the DCPD-acrylic resin showed complete miscibility with EVA and the homogeneous phase of the hot melt adhesive blends at all compositions. The T-peel adhesion strength between the hot melt adhesives and polyurethane elastomeric sheets was mainly affected by the polarity of the tackifier resins in the hot melt adhesives, rather than by the storage moduli, G', of the hot melt adhesives themselves.
In this study, adaptation of compomer to saliva contaminated dentin was evaluated with scanning electron microscope(SEM) and confocal laser scanning microscope(CLSM). For the SEM study, the occulusal surfaces of thirty two molar teeth were grounded to exposure dentin surfaces. The specimen were randomly assigned to control and three experimental groups with four samples in each group. In control group, Dyract and F-2000 compomer were bonded on the specimens according to the manufactures direction. Experimental groups were subdivided into three groups. They were contaminated with saliva on dentin surfaces ; Experimental group 1 : Saliva was dried with compressed air. Experimental group 2 : Saliva was rinsed with air-water spray and dried. Experimental group 3 : After polymerization of an adhesive, they were contaminated with saliva, and then saliva was rinsed with air-water spray and dried. Dyract and F-2000 compomer were bonded on saliva-treated dentin surfaces. The interfaces between dentin and compomer were observed with SEM. For the CLSM study, Class V cavities were prepared in buccal and ligual surfacess of thirty two molars. The specimens were divided into control and experimental groups. Class V cavities in experimental group were contaminated with saliva and those surfaces in each experimental groups received the same treatments as for the SEM study. Cavities were applied Prime & Bond 2.1 and F-2000 compomer primer/adhesive that were mixed with fluorescein, and then were filled with Dyract and F-2000 compomer. Specimens were embedded in transparent acrylic resin and sectioned buccolingual1y with diamond wheel saw, and then mounted on cover slide for CLSM study. The interface between cavity and compomer was observed by fluoresence imaging with a CLSM. The results were as follows : 1. In SEM exammination of Dyract group, control group, experimental group 2, 3 showed close adaptation to dentin and hybrid layer of $3{\sim}4{\mu}m$ diameter. Interfacial gap between compomer and dentin in experimental group 1 was wider than in control group. 2. In SEM examination of F-2000 group, adaptation to dentin of control group was closer than Dytact control group, but hybrid-like layer was not observed. Interfacial gap between compomer and dentin in experimental group 1 was wider than in Dyract experimental group 1. 3. In dissolution specimens of Dyract and F-2000 group, resin tags penetrated through dentinal tubules in control group and experimental group 1 and 3, but the penetration of resin tag was irregular and partial in experimental group 1. 4. In CLSM exammination of Dyract and F-2000 group, adhesive patterns of control and experimental groups showed same as in SEM. This result suggests the treatment methods, rinsing & drying, repeating all adhesive procedures, will produce good effect on adaptation of compomer to dentin if the dentin surface or polymerized adhesive is contaminated by saliva.
A composite film of polyurethane(PU)-graft-poly(acrylic acid) (PAAc)/polyaniline (PU-g-AAc/PANI) was successfully fabricated for the purpose of adding conductivity on the surface of a general purpose polymer and improving adhesive property between the general purpose polymer and conducting polymer layer. The results from ATR-FTIR and XPS analyses also supported the successful synthesis of the composite film by showing characteristic peaks for every step. A low surface resistivity of $2{\times}10^3\;ohm/sq$ proved the surface conductivity of synthesized PU-g-AAc/PANI film and the surface resistance decreased with increasing the amount of grafted AAc, which acted as a dopant for PANI film.
PURPOSE. Purpose of this study was to evaluate effect of two surface treatments, sandblasting and monomer treatment, on tensile bond strength between two long term resilient liners and poly (methyl methacrylate) denture base resin. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two resilient liners Super-Soft and Molloplast-B were selected. Sixty acrylic resin (Trevalon) specimens with cross sectional area of $10{\times}10$ mm were prepared and divided into two groups of 30 specimens each. Each group was surface treated (n = 10) by sandblasting (250 ${\mu}$ alumina particles), monomer treatment (for 180 sec) and control (no surface treatment). Resilient liners were processed between 2 poly(methyl methacrylate) surfaces, in the dimensions of $10{\times}10{\times}3$ mm. Tensile strength was determined with Instron Universal testing machine, at a crosshead speed of 5 mm/min; and the modes of failure (adhesive, cohesive or mixed) were recorded. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, followed by Tukey HSD test (${\alpha}$= 0.05). RESULTS. Monomer pretreatment of acrylic resin produced significantly higher bond strengths when compared to sandblasting and control for both resilient liners (P < .001). Sandblasting significantly decreased the bond strength for both the liners when compared to monomer pretreatment and control (P < .001). Mean bond strength of Super-Soft lined specimens was significantly higher than Molloplast-B in various surface treatment groups (P < .05). CONCLUSION. Surface pretreatment of the acrylic resin with monomer prior to resilient liner application is an effective method to increase bond strength between the base and soft liner. Sandblasting, on the contrary, is not recommended as it weakens the bond between the two.
Pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) based on 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA)/acrylic acid (AA) copolymer was synthesized using different photoinitiators. Results showed that PSA with Irgacure$^{(R)}$651 (benzyldimethylketal) and Irgacure$^{(R)}$184(1-hydroxy-cyclohexylphenyl ketone) proved to be good for adhesion properties. This may be attributed to strong absorption near 350 nm wavelength and also high solubility in monomer mixtures. The addition of Irgacure$^{(R)}$819, bisacylphosphine oxides as a photoinitiator caused cohesive failure with high loading in a peel test owing to the additional radical formation. It is assumed that the insoluble photoinitiator reacts with oxygene, which may act as a hydrogen donor.

Improvement of heat sink technology related to the continuous implementation performance and extension of device-life in circumstance of easy heating and more compact space has been becoming more important issue as multi-functional integration and miniaturization trend of electronic gadgets and products has been generalized. In this study, it purposed to minimize of decline of the heat diffusivity by gluing polymer through compounding of inorganic particles which have thermal conductive properties. We used NH-9300 as base resin and used inorganic fillers such as silicon carbide(SiC), aluminum nitride(AlN), and boron nitride(BN) to improve heat diffusivity. After making film which was made from 100 part of acrylic resin mixed hardener(1.0 part more or less) with inorganic particles. The film was matured at $80^{\circ}C$ for 24h. Diffusivity were tested according to sorts of particles and density of particles as well as size and structure of particle to improve the effect of heat sink in view of morphology assessing diffusivity by LFA(Netzsch/LFA 447 Nano Flash) and adhesion strength by UTM(Universal Testing Machine). The correlation between diffusivity of pure inorganic particles and composite as well as the relation between density and morphology of inorganic particles has been studied. The study related morphology showed that globular type had superior diffusivity at low density of 25% but on the contarary globular type was inferior to non-globular type at high density of 80%.
