Improvement of the radiation beam profile of a medical ultrasonic transducer has been researched in this paper. In order to improve the beam profile, a new transducer structure has been devised that includes both a shaded electrode and a multi-focus lens. For a linear sound source, the beam profile was investigated through finite element analysis, and then the optimal design of the devised structure was carried out by considering such performances as sidelobe level, focal range and beamwidth simultaneously. In the process, the optimal dimension of the devised structure was derived by using the ratio of the focal range to the minimum beamwidth as a performance index. As a result, the beam profile has been improved to have a lower sidelobe level at -20.2 dB and a consistent narrow beamwidth from 30 mm to 160 mm depth with the minimum beamwidth at 2.04 mm. Further, a prototype transducer was fabricated to have the devised structure, and its performance was measured and compared with the analysis results to confirm the validity of the devised transducer structure.
Nowadays, implantable hearing aids have been developed to solve the problems of conventional hearing aids. In case of fully implantable hearing aids, an implantable microphone is necessary to receive sound signal beneath the skin. Normally, an implantable microphone has poor frequency response characteristics in high frequency bands of acoustic signal due to the high frequency attenuation effect of skin after implantation to human body. In this paper, the implantable microphone is designed to reduce the high frequency attenuation effect of a skin by putting its resonance frequency at the attenuated range through a finite element analysis (FEA) simulation. The designed implantable microphone through the simulated results has been fabricated by manufacturing process using bio-compatible materials. By the several in-vitro experiments with pig skin, it has been verified that the designed implantable microphone has a resonance frequency around the starting part of the attenuated range and reduces the attenuation effect.

Since the eco-era is getting closer, the importance of noise reducing in the passenger cars of high-speed train is very important. The active noise control is best choice to reduce low frequency noise because the passive one is too heavy for high speed trains where weight is so critical. Also ANC is able to reduce the ambient noise when the environmental-factor changes. To reduce a three-dimensional closed-space sound field like a car of a high-speed rail is hard to do using single channel ANC control system. We used multi-channel FXLMS algorithm which calculation speed is fast and the secondary path estimation is possible in order to take into account the physical delay in electro acoustic hardware control loudspeaker and power amplifier. Firstly, we have measured interior noise of KTX and estimated noise path in KTX test-bed. However there was some problem related to algorithm divergence and increasing the filter order. We have made a simulation of interior environment of KTX car by using three frequency bands of 120Hz, 280Hz, 360Hz as the most important for KTX ANC system. During this research the interior noise reduction of KTX car was made by using the multi-channel FXLMS algorithm. Reduction performance was evaluated and compared each other for open space section and tunnel section. in-situ experiment for the KTX noise reduction by proposed ANC was performed based on data obtained in simulation and they were compared for open space section and tunnel section as well.

Porous structures of aluminum foam have been studied. The apparent foam shape, foam hight, density, pore size, shape, and their distributions in various section areas of the experimental samples have been investigated. The sample have been cast into metallic mold, using aluminum foam prepared from a precursor based on pure Al ingot mixed with various amount of 1-2wt% increasing viscosity and foam agent materials. The process provides for flexibility in design of foam structures via relatively easy control over the amount of hydrogen evolution and the drainage processes which occur during foam formation. This is facilitated by manupulating parameters such as the foaming agent, thermal histories during solidification and mix melt viscosities. The acoustical performance of the panel made with the foamed aluminum is considerably improved; its absorption coefficient shows NRC 0.6-0.8. It has been found that the Al foam is very preferable for the compactness of the thermal system.

Auditory thresholds were determined by means of a conditioned response to sound stimuli at frequencies 80, 100, 200, 300, 500 and 800 Hz for a 10 black rock fish, Sebastes schlegeli. The conditioned response was a change of a cardiac rhythm. It was established through an electric shock as unconditioned stimulus, and could be monitored on an oscilloscope. A stable acoustic condition was obtained by suspending the fish in a small cage at fixed position in the test tank. The sensitive frequencies ranged from 80 Hz to about 800 Hz, showing the best frequency around 100 Hz where the mean threshold value was 90.5 dB. A gradual rise below 300 Hz and a relatively sharp turn above 500 Hz were indicated in the audiogram. The method presented here seemed to be useful for a rapid determination of the audiogram of fishes.
Soundscape provides important resources to understand social and cultural aspects of our society, however, it is still its infancy to study on the research framework to record, conserve, categorize, and analyze soundscapes. Topic modeling is an automatic approach to discover hidden themes that are disperse in unstructured documents, thus topic modeling is robust enough to find latent topics such as research trends behind a collection of documents. The purpose of this paper is to discover topics on current soundscape research based on topic modeling, furthermore, to discuss the possibilities to design a metadata system for sound archives and to improve Soundscape Ontology which is currently developing.
In this paper, combining features is proposed as a way to enhance the classification accuracy of sounds under noisy environments using the CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) structure. A robust log Mel-filter bank using Wiener filter and PNCCs (Power Normalized Cepstral Coefficients) are extracted to form a 2-dimensional feature that is used as input to the CNN structure. An ebird database is used to classify 43 types of bird species in their natural environment. To evaluate the performance of the combined features under noisy environments, the database is augmented with 3 types of noise under 4 different SNRs (Signal to Noise Ratios) (20 dB, 10 dB, 5 dB, 0 dB). The combined feature is compared to the log Mel-filter bank with and without incorporating the Wiener filter and the PNCCs. The combined feature is shown to outperform the other mentioned features under clean environments with a 1.34 % increase in overall average accuracy. Additionally, the accuracy under noisy environments at the 4 SNR levels is increased by 1.06 % and 0.65 % for shop and schoolyard noise backgrounds, respectively.

In this paper, we studied the effect of kernel size of CNN layer on performance in acoustic noise attenuators. This system uses a deep learning algorithm using a neural network adaptive prediction filter instead of using the existing adaptive filter. Speech is estimated from a single input speech signal containing noise using a 100-neuron, 16-filter CNN filter and an error back propagation algorithm. This is to use the quasi-periodic property in the voiced sound section of the voice signal. In this study, a simulation program using Tensorflow and Keras libraries was written and a simulation was performed to verify the performance of the noise attenuator for the kernel size. As a result of the simulation, when the kernel size is about 16, the MSE and MAE values are the smallest, and when the size is smaller or larger than 16, the MSE and MAE values increase. It can be seen that in the case of an speech signal, the features can be best captured when the kernel size is about 16.
This study investigated acoustic (VOT) and articulatory characteristics of Korean velar stops in monosyllabic CV structures to examine how the three-way distinction is realized in the laryngeal and supralaryngeal domains and how the distinction is manifested in male versus female speakers' speech production. EMA data were collected from 22 speakers. In line with previous studies, male speakers preserved the three-way differentiation of velar stops (/k*/</k/</kh/) in terms of VOT while female speakers showed only a two-way distinction (/k*/</k/=/kh/). As for the kinematic characteristics, a clear three-way distinction was found only in male speakers' peak velocity measure in the C-to-V opening movement (/kh/</k/</k*/). For the other kinematic measures (i.e., articulatory closure duration, deceleration duration of the opening movement and the entire opening movement duration), male speakers showed only a two-way distinction between fortis and the other two stops. Female speakers did not show a three-way contrast in any kinematic measure. They showed a two-way distinction between lenis and the other two stops in C-to-V deceleration duration (/k*/=/kh/</k/), and a two-way distinction between fortis and lenis stops in the opening movement duration. An overall comparison of VOT and articulatory analyses revealed that the lenis-aspirated kinematic distinction is diminishing, driven by female speakers, in line with the loss of the lenis-aspirated distinction in VOT that could influence supralaryngeal articulation.
In this paper, we propose a Linear Prediction (LP) analysis-based feature for detecting Snapping Shrimp (SS) Noise (SSN) in underwater acoustic data. SS is a species that creates high amplitude signals in shallow, warm waters, and its frequent and loud sound is a major source of noise. The proposed feature takes advantage of the characteristic of SSN, which is sudden and rapidly disappearing, by using LP analysis to detect the exact noise interval and reduce the effects of SSN. The error between the predicted and measured value is large and results in effective SSN detection. To further improve performance, a constant false alarm rate detector is incorporated into the proposed feature. Our evaluation shows that the proposed methods outperform the state-of-the-art MultiLayer-Wavelet Packet Decomposition (ML-WPD) in terms of receiver operating characteristic curve and Area Under the Curve (AUC), with the LP analysis-based feature achieving a higher AUC by 0.12 on average and lower computational complexity.
