  • The metrical structures in orally produced the poetry were generally analyzed by accent, metre and syllable. The purpose of this study is to investigate of metrical structures of Korean modem poetry using computer implemented speech analysis system. Two famous poet's poems confidential talk, Miloe and 'A buddhist dance, Sungmu' were selected for prosodic analysis. The informant is 60 years old professor in major of Korean and French poetry. The syllable structures of poems were analyzed primarily by vowel timbers, which can classified compact and diffuse vowels according to the distance of F2-F1. The perception cues of consonants were analyzed by VOT and tensity features of articulation. Rhythm is classified by dactyl, anapest, trochee, spondee and iambic. As a result, syllable structures of Korean modem poetry were mainly CV and CVC and the reading times of each lines were 3-4sec for 12 and 15 syllables. Main metre of Korean modem poems constructed the Imbic and Anapest. The break of each lines were demarcated by grammatical structure or meaning rather than phonetic structures.

  • This Paper Proposes a new efficient system design strategies for the acoustic-based underwater multiple modem and media access control protocol. The system aims to establish the acoustic-based communication network of an underwater vehicles for deep sea mining, which ensures a certain level of maximum throughput regardless of the propagation delay of acoustic and allows fast data transmission through the acoustic-based multiple channel. A media access control protocol for integrated communication network and it's acoustic-based communication modems that allows 'peer-to-peer' communication between a surface mining plant multiple underwater system is designed, and the proposed media access control protocol is implemented for its verification. Furthermore, a proposed design strategies which make it possible to control the multiple vehicle for an underwater mining is presented in this paper.

  • The available underwater acoustic spectrum is limited. Therefore, it is imperative to avoid frequency interference from overlapping frequencies of underwater acoustic equipment (UAE) for the co-existence of the UAE. Cognitive technology that senses idle spectrum and actively avoids frequency interference is an efficient method to facilitate the collision-free operation of multiple UAE with overlapping frequencies. Cognitive technology is adopted to identify the frequency usage of UAE to apply cognitive technology. To this end, we investigated two principle underwater acoustic sources: UAE and marine animals. The UAE is classified into five types: underwater acoustic modem, acoustic positioning system, multi-beam echo-sounder, side-scan sonar, and sub-bottom profiler. We analyzed the parameters of the frequency band, directivity, range, and depth, which play a critical role in the design of underwater acoustic cognitive technology. Moreover, the frequency band of several marine species was also examined. The mid-frequency band from 10 - 40 kHz was found to be the busiest. Lastly, this study provides useful insights into the design of underwater acoustic cognitive technologies, where it is essential to avoid interference among the UAE in this mid-frequency band.

  • In this paper, we described the ECG telemetry system via the Public Telephone Line. The system consist of a signal acquisition and measurement section, a signal processing section, and a signal transmission section. It used 8 bits microprocessor. The transmission section is composed of 3 ch. analog modulators and 1 ct. digital modem. Especially, using the digital modem, signal is transmitted with about 50n data reduction ratio by the TP (Turning Point) algorithm. The acoustic coupler or inductive coil for linking the public telephone line are used. The speed of the digital modem is 300 baud rate. The MCBS (Multi Channel Biotelemetry System) is tested and evaluated through the experiment.

  • Underwater sensor networks (USN) for ocean development and disaster prevention have been emerged as one of interesting research topics recently. Since a high-speed and inexpensive communication modem is a prerequisite for deployment of USN, we design and implement an underwater modem by utilizing general-purpose waterproof ultrasonic sensors in this paper. We also make experiments in indoor and outdoor environment with two modems facing each other to conduct a point-to-point communication. According to the experiments, we can achieve the data rates of 1.5 kbps in a water tank and 2 kbps in a pond. Also, the maximum communication distance between two modems is about 30 meters. Besides, we conduct a point-to-multipoint experiment imitating USN by deploying a gateway, a sink node and three sensor nodes in a water tank.

  • It was found possible to evaluate the temperature at which major scale failure takes place during cooling by installing a most modem acoustic emission(AE) analytical system. Ultra low carbon steel and low carbon steels containing a few minor alloying elements were oxidized in air at 900, 1050 and $1200^{\circ}C$ for 20 min, and then cooled in vacuum at 30, 70 and $110^{\circ}C/min$. The significance of the present research is the evaluation of the spallation temperature and thus the calculation of apparent thermal stress for scale spallation using the difference between oxidation temperature and spallation temperature. They were assessed as 0.22 to 0.68, 0.45 to 1.80, and 0.65 to 1.95 GPa for oxidation at 900, 1050 and $1200^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • Research on underwater sensor networks is increasing due to such reasons as marine resource management, maritime disaster prediction and military protection. Many underwater sensor networks performs wireless communication using an acoustic sound wave band signal having a relatively low frequency. So the digital part of their modem can take charge of carrier band signal processing. To enable this, the sampling rate of the baseband band signal should be increased to a sampling rate at which carrier band signal processing is possible. In this paper, we designed a sampling rate increasing circuit based on a CIC interpolator for underwater sensor nodes. The CIC interpolator has a simple circuit structure. However, since the CIC interpolator has a large attenuation of the pass band and a wide transition band, an inverse sinc LPF is added to compensate for frequency response of the CIC interpolator. The proposed interpolator was verified in time domain and frequency domain using ModelSim and Matlab.

  • This paper deals with the pressure fluctuation induced by propeller cavitation. The main objective of this study is to analyze the source mechanism of the pressure fluctuation induced by propeller cavitation. To analyze the source mechanism of the pressure fluctuation, modem acoustic theory is applied. The governing equation of the pressure fluctuation induced by propeller is derived using Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings proposed time domain acoustic method. The physical mechanism of pressure fluctuation at the blade rate frequency is analyzed using numerically generated cavitation volume variation. Finally the characteristics of the pressure fluctuation induced by a propeller are presented.
