Various numerical methods have been adopted for indoor noise assessments of ship plant. Acoustical radiosity method is one of the high frequency approaches for acoustic field analysis, which assumes diffuse reflections by boundaries so that it could be efficiently applied to the acoustically diffused indoor space noise analysis. In this study, an acoustic field analysis program has been developed based on radiosity method, which could apply for acoustically large enclosures such as ship's indoor space. For this purpose, the procedure of the acoustical radiosity method has been summarized and implemented to an acoustic field analysis program using MATLAB. Numerical example for a rectangular indoor space has investigated validity of the implemented program. Steady state sound pressure levels calculated for a continuous acoustic source signal have shown good agreement with those by other solutions such as an analytic solution and a ray tracing method. Instantaneous sound pressure levels calculated for an impulsive acoustic signal have provided the clues of direct/reflected acoustic field and reverberation time.
In this study, in order to overcome the weakness of acoustic field analysis which is generally used for ultrasonic probe performance evaluation, automatic acoustic field measurement system and evaluation parameters were proposed. The comparisons between acoustic field simulation and measured acoustic distribution data of normal and abnormal channels were conducted to evaluate the availability of proposed system and evaluation parameters. First, the impulse response characteristic of sample probe was investigated to classify the normal elements and abnormal elements. And then, normal channels and abnormal channels with abnormal element were chosen. The suggested 12 evaluation parameters were calculated using the acoustic fields of these channels. The availability of proposed automatic acoustic field measurement system and evaluation parameters was confirmed. And the performance evaluation of ultrasonic probe using acoustic field analysis could be easier and faster.

As a part of development process of the COMS, an acoustic vibration test was performed in order to verify that the COMS is safe from the acoustic loads coming from the Ariane-5ECA launch vehicle when it is launched. In this paper, the acoustic vibration test preparation which was performed during the development of the COMS is explained, and through the evaluation of the test results, it was verified whether the COMS is safe from the acoustic load that the COMS will experience during the launch. Through detail evaluation of the acoustic loads on the solar array, Ka band communication payload antenna and feed, GOCI(Geo-Stationary Ocean Color Imager), MI(Meteorological Imager), it was confirmed that the COMS is safe from the acoustic loads from launch vehicle.

The requirement of acoustic material which is used in underwater environment more increases. The material is used to reduce acoustic signature and radiate noise for underwater vehicle. Underwater acoustic material was made by viscoelastic material such as rubber and polyurethane etc. The mechanical and acoustic characteristics of these material change with hydrostatic pressure. In order to improve an acoustic performance according to hydrostatic pressure, several kinds of scatterers were added to viscoelastic material. In this paper, acoustic modelling and analysis techniques of underwater acoustic material with hydrostatic pressure were introduced and proposed. The specimens for pulse tube test were made and echo reductions were calculated and measured with hydrostatic pressure. Also the characteristics of echo reduction of the specimens with hydrostatic pressure were obtained and discussed.

Recently, various acoustic artifacts that contains speaker have been produced such as cellular phone. Speaker consists of diaphragm generating sound and coil vibrating diaphragm. Generally, good speaker means that it has a wide frequency range, high output power rate to input power and flat sound pressure level in specified frequency range. Acoustic characteristic was estimated through the experiment and computer simulation, or sound power was controlled with acoustic sensitivity in a natural frequency range fer last decade. However, the flatness of sound pressure level has not been considered to enhance the sound quality of a speaker. Tn this study, a method for speaker design is proposed for a good acoustic characteristic, which is flatness of SPL(sound pressure level) and wideness between the first and second natural frequency. SYSNOISE is used fer acoustic analysis and ANSYS is used for harmonic response analysis and modal analysis. Optimization for acoustic characteristics of a speaker diaphragm is performed using ModelCenter. All analyses are done within a frequency domain. And we confirm that the experimental and computational simulations have similar trend.

The amount of acoustic data gathered from the acoustic data gathering system is increased dramatically as the acoustic data gathering system become various and highly effective. It is needed to transmit this acoustic data to analysis environment for precise analysis. In this gathering/analysis system, it is also needed the stable transmitting as well as highly perfect security. In this paper, I would like to propose a transmitting and management system sending a massive gathering acoustic data in the unsecurity and low speed networking environment. The implemented system is to transmit the acoustic data safely in low speed networking environment and secure the acoustic data from various threats.
Flow-excited acoustic resonance in ducted cavities can produce high levels of acoustic pressure that may lead to severe damage. This occurs when the flow instability over the cavity mouth, which is created by the free shear layer separation at the upstream edge, is coupled with one of the acoustic modes in the accommodating enclosure. Acoustic resonance can cause high amplitude fluctuating acoustic loads in and near the cavity. Such acoustic loads could cause damage in sensitive applications such as aircraft weapon bays. Therefore, the suppression and mitigation of these resonances are very important. Much of the work done in the past focused on the fluid-dynamic oscillation mechanism or suppressing the resonance by altering the edge condition at the shear layer separation. However, the effect of the downstream edge has received much less attention. This paper considers the effect of the impingement edge geometry on the acoustic resonance excitation and Strouhal number values of the flow instabilities in a ducted shallow cavity with an aspect ratio of 1.0. Several edges, including chamfered edges with different angles and round edges with different radii, were investigated. In addition, some downstream edges that have never been studied before, such as saw-tooth edges, spanwise cylinders, higher and lower steps, and straight and delta spoilers, are investigated. The experiments are conducted in an open-loop wind tunnel that can generate flows with a Mach number up to 0.45. The study shows that when some edge geometries, such as lower steps, chamfered, round, and saw-tooth edges, are installed downstream, they demonstrate a promising reduction in the acoustic resonance. On the other hand, higher steps and straight spoilers resulted in intensifying the acoustic resonance. In addition, the effect of edge geometry on the Strouhal number is presented.

In order to analyze the quantitative characteristics of acoustic streaming, experimental setup of 3-D stereoscopic PIV(particle imaging velocimetry) was designed and quantitative ultrasonic flow fields in the gap between the ultrasonic vibrator and heat source were measured. Utilizing acoustic streaming induced by ultrasonic vibration, surface temperature drop of cooling object was also measured. The study on smart cooling method by acoustic streaming induced by ultrasonic vibration was performed due to the empirical relations of flow pattern, average flow velocity, different gaps, and enhancement on cooling rates in the gap. Average velocity fields and maximum acoustic streaming velocity in the open gap between the stationary cylindrical heat source and ultrasonic vibrator were experimentally measured at no vibration, resonance, and non-resonance. It was clearly observed that the enhancement of cooling rates existed owing to the acoustic air flow in the gap at resonance and non-resonance induced by ultrasonic vibration. The ultrasonic wave propagating into air in the gap creates steady-state secondary eddy called acoustic streaming which enhances heat transfer from the heat source to encompassing air. The intensity of the acoustic streaming induced by ultrasonic vibration experimentally depended upon the gap between the heat source and ultrasonic vibrator. The ultrasonic vibration at resonance caused the increase of the acoustic streaming velocity and convective heat transfer augmentation when the flow fields by 3D stereoscopic PIV and temperature drop of the heat source were measured experimentally. The acoustic streaming velocity of air enhancement on cooling rates in the gap is maximal when the gap agrees with the multiples of half wavelength of the ultrasonic wave, which is specifically 12 mm.

In this work, Altair Engineering's vibroacoustic modeling approach is used to simulate the acoustic signature of a simplified automobile in a wind tunnel. The modeling approach relies on a two step procedure involving simulation and extraction of acoustic sources using a high fidelity Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation followed by propagation of the acoustic energy within the structure and passenger compartment using a structural dynamics solver. The tools necessary to complete this process are contained within Altair's HyperWorks CAE software suite. The CFD simulations are performed using AcuSolve and the structural simulations are performed using OptiStruct. This vibroacoustics simulation methodology relies on calculation of the acoustic sources from the flow solution computed by AcuSolve. The sources are based on Lighthill's analogy and are sampled directly on the acoustic mesh. Once the acoustic sources have been computed, they are transformed into the frequency domain using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) with advanced sampling and are subsequently used in the structural acoustics model. Although this approach does require the CFD solver to have knowledge of the acoustic simulation domain a priori, it avoids modeling errors introduced by evaluation of the acoustic source terms using dissimilar meshes and numerical methods. The aforementioned modeling approach is demonstrated on the Hyundai Simplified Model (HSM) geometry in this work. This geometry contains flow features that are representative of the dominant noise sources in a typical automobile design; namely vortex shedding from the passenger compartment A-pillar and bluff body shedding from the side view mirrors. The geometry also contains a thick poroelastic material on the interior that acts to reduce the acoustic noise. This material is modeled using a Biot material formulation during the structural acoustic simulation. Successful prediction of the acoustic noise within the HSM geometry serves to validate the vibroacoustic modeling approach for automotive applications.
