Arsenic (As) oxidation followed by precipitation from a high-As(III)-containing leaching solution derived from a sulfidic ore was investigated in this study to remove aqueous As from the solution using activated carbon (AC) with air injection as an oxidant. To obtain the initial leaching solution, a domestic sulfidic ore was leached in a sulfuric acid solution at pH 1 and 50℃ for 95 h, and approximately 7 g/L of Fe and 3 g/L of As were leached out. To determine the effect of the oxidative reaction utilizing AC with air injection, the leaching solution was tested under the following five oxidative conditions at an initial pH of 1 and 90℃ for 72 h: air-only injection; air injection with 1, 5, and 10 w/v% of AC addition; and H2O2 addition. The tests in the presence of both air and AC revealed that the oxidation kinetics and As removal were improved by the reaction between the metallic species and the surface group formed on the AC surface. In addition, the greater the amount of AC added, the better was the reaction efficiency, removing 93-94% of As with more than 5 w/v% of AC addition. Finally, X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed that the precipitate formed from the oxidative reaction was scorodite (FeAsO4·2H2O).

This study aims to improve the recovery of gold and silver by removing hematite from gold ore of an oxidation zone with ammonia solution. Quartz, hematite and muscovite were present in the oxidation zone, while hematite was hydrogenous. As a result of performing an ammonia leaching test on variables, it is found that the maximum Fe leaching parameter was $-45{\mu}m$ particle size, 1.0 M sulfuric acid concentration, 5.0 g/l ammonium sulfate concentration and 2.0 M hydrogen peroxide concentration. It is also confirmed that goethite was precipitated and formed from that ammonia elution. As the amount of Fe-removal was increased in a solid-residue, the recovery of Au and Ag were increased, too.
The leaching characteristics of manganese nodules were investigated in dilute hydrochloric acid solution using copper malie as a reductant. Thc capper matte has been found to be an effective reductant for exhacting morc than 96% of Mn, 95% of Ni, 91% of Ca, 88% of Cu and 36% of Fe when leached in 2.5 M HCI at 70$^{\circ}$C for 2hr. The dissolutions of Mu, Co, and Ni depend on thc amaunt of added cappcr matte. 7he ratin of liquid and solid is an important [actor on the extraction of metals during leaching The dissolution af Mn, Co, Ni and Cu incrcascd w~th the increase in temperalure of leachant. The leaching rates of Mn, Co, NI and Cu from manganese nodule m the presznce of copper matte is limited by bath thc surface chemical reaction and pare diffusion processes. Thc activation energies far Mn. Co: Ni and Cu were 17. 61, 12.8, 17.2 and 57.88 KcaUmol, rcspcctively.
Electrochemical Quartz Crystal microbalance is a tool that is capable of measuring nanogram-scale mass change on electrode surface. When applying alternating voltage to the quartz crystal with metal electrode formed on both sides, a resonant frequency by inverse piezoelectric effect depends on its thickness. The resonant frequency changes sensitively by mass change on its electrode surface; frequency increase with metal dissolution and decrease with metal deposition on the electrode surface. The relationship between resonant frequency and mass change is shown by Sauerbrey equation so that the mass change during metal dissolution can be measured in real time. Especially, it is effective in the case of reaction mechanism and rate studies accompanied by precipitation, volatilization, compound formation, etc. resulting in difficulties on ex-situ AA or ICP analysis. However, it should be carefully considered during EQCM experiments that temperature, viscosity, and hydraulic pressure of solution, and stress and surface roughness can affect on the resonant frequency. Application of EQCM was shown as a case study on leaching of platinum using aqueous chlorine for obtaining activation energy. A platinum electrode of quartz crystal oscillator with 1000 Å thickness exposed to solution was used as leaching sample. Electrogenerated chlorine as oxidant was purged and its concentration was controlled in hydrochloric acid solution. From the experimental results, platinum dissolution by chlorine is chemical reaction control with activation energy of 83.5 kJ/mol.
The leaching behaviors of zinc and manganese oxides of spent alkaline manganeses battery in sulfuric acid solution by using $H_{2}O_{2}$ as a reducing agent were investigated according to the concentration of $H_{2}SO_{4}$, temperature, reaction time, and the amount of $H_{2}O_{2}$. The experimental results of zinc and manganeses dissolution rates obtained without a reducing agent at 100 g/L solid/liquid ratio, 3.0 M $H_{2}SO_{4}$, $60^{\circ}C$ and 200 r.p.m. were 97.7% and 43.5%, respectively. On the other hand, zinc and manganeses dissolution rates obtained by adding 30 mL reducing agent at $60^{\circ}C$ were 99.6% and 97.1%, respectively. The addition of the reducing agent increased the leaching of manganese by two-fold compared to the absence of a reducing agent. In case of adding over 30 mL $H_{2}O_{2}$, however, the leaching rates of zinc and manganeses were independent of reducing agent amounts.

Tanzania has abundant copper deposits, but copper-metal extraction remains low there, owing to the lack of suitable copper recovery processes and insufficient funds for developing mining technologies. Accordingly, leaching and solvent extraction methods for the extraction of copper from copper ore were studied with a particular emphasis on developing a simple processing method for small-scale copper mining. Chrysocolla ore was used as the copper-bearing mineral and sulfuric acid was used as the leaching reagent. A maximum copper recovery of 95.1% was obtained when the particles in the sample were smaller than $53{\mu}m$, the concentration of 98%(w/w) sulfuric acid in the leaching solution was 5.0 g/L and the stirring rate was between 60 and 80 rpm. The highest selectivity of $Cu^2+$ in the solvent extraction was obtained using 15% LIX-70 in kerosene. In the pH range from 0.5 to 3.0, the efficiency of $Cu^2+$ extraction increased with increasing pH. However, at pH values higher than 3.0, other metal ions were extracted into the organic phase more readily than $Cu^2+$. The highest solvent extraction rate obtained was 96.5% at pH values of 2.0 and 3.0 using 15% LIX-70.

The proposed $CO_2$ storage technology in the present study is a one-step sequestration process that stabilizes $CO_2$ in a reactor with Serpentine. The advantage of this technology is associated with its high stability of final product so that the entire system is recognized as permanent environment-friendly $CO_2$ removal method. Since the sequestration reaction mechanisms are generally understood that carbonation reaction proceeds with very slow rate, so that pretreatment method to increases reaction rate of $CO_2$ carbonation reaction should be developed. To increase the reactivity of Serpentine with $CO_2$, two different methods of pretreatment are carried out in the present investigation. One is heat-treatment, the other is chemical pretreatment. In this study, only chemical pretreatment is considered leaching method of magnesium from Serpentine using sulfuric acid at the various reaction temperatures, times, and acid concentrations. Experimental results illustrated that pretreatment by sulfuric acid increases surface area of serpentine from $11.1209m^2/g$ to $98.7903m^2/g$ and extracts magnesium compounds. Single variable experiment demonstrated the enhancements of magnesium extraction with increased reaction temperature and time. Amount of magnesium extraction is obtained by using the data of ICP-AES as maximum extraction condition of magnesium is 2 M acid solution, $75^{\circ}C$ and 1hr. After performing chemical pretreatment, carbonation yield increased from 23.24% to 46.30% of weight.
In order to investigate selective phase transformations and to determine the maximum Au leaching factors from microwave treated Au-bearing complex sulfides, a microscope, SEM-EDS analysis, and thiocyanate leaching tests were performed. When the Au-bearing complex sulfides were exposed to microwave heating, increasing the microwave exposure time increased temperature and decreased weight. Arsenopyrite was first selectively transformed to hematite, which formed a concentric rim structure. In this hematite, oxygen and carbon was detected and always showed high iron content and low arsenic content due to arcing and oxidation from microwave heating. The results of the leaching test using microwave treated sample showed that the maximum Au leaching parameters was reached with 0.5 g concentration thiocyanate, 2.0 M hydrochloric acid, 0.3 M copper sulfate and leaching temperature at$60^{\circ}C$. Under the maximum Au leaching conditions, 59% to 96.69% of Au was leached from the microwave treated samples, whereas only 24.53% to 92% of the Au was leached from the untreated samples.

In order to leach Au and Ag from gold-silver bearing sulfide concentrate, the sulfide concentrate was ground in a ball mill for a dry pre-treatment and a wet pre-treatment process. Mineralogical studies and thiourea leaching experiments were carried out with the pre-treated sulfide concentrate. The results of the pre-treatment with the concentrate samples showed the mean particle size and iso-electrical potential was smaller in the dry pre-treatment sample than in the concentrate sample, and the contents was lower in the wet pre-treatment sample than in the dry pre-treatment sample. In XRD analysis, amorphous properties were only shown in the wet pretreatment sample. The results of the concentrate sample leaching experiments showed that the best Au, Ag leaching parameters were when the addition of thiourea was at a 1.0 g concentration, ferric sulfate was 1.0 M, sulfuric acid was 2.0 M and the leaching temperature was at $60^{\circ}C$. The Au, Ag leaching rate was always much greater and faster with the wet pre-treatment samples than with the dry pre-treatment samples. Accordingly, it is expected that more Au, Ag can be leached in an eco-friendly methodology using wet pre-treatment. The pre-treatment could be improved with an optimized grinding additive reagent and through researching grinding time in future non-cyanide processes.
