  • The methods and performance of a 3D pin-by-pin neutronics code based on the 2D/1D decoupling method are presented. The code was newly developed as an effort to achieve enhanced accuracy and high calculation performance that are sufficient for the use in practical nuclear design analyses. From the 3D diffusion-based finite difference method (FDM) formulation, decoupled planar formulations are established by treating pre-determined axial leakage as a source term. The decoupled axial problems are formulated with the radial leakage source term. To accelerate the pin-by-pin calculation, the two-level coarse mesh finite difference (CMFD) formulation, which consists of the multigroup node-wise CMFD and the two-group assembly-wise CMFD is implemented. To enhance the accuracy, both the discontinuity factor method and the super-homogenization (SPH) factor method are examined for pin-wise cross-section homogenization. The parallelization is achieved with the OpenMP package. The accuracy and performance of the pin-by-pin calculations are assessed with the VERA and APR1400 benchmark problems. It is demonstrated that pin-by-pin 2D/1D alternating calculations within the two-level 3D CMFD framework yield accurate solutions in about 30 s for the typical commercial core problems, on a parallel platform employing 32 threads.

  • At present, in the case of pump fast optimization, there is a problem of rapid, accurate and effective prediction of cavitation performance. In "A Cavitation Performance Prediction Method for Pumps PART1-Proposal and Feasibility" [1], a new cavitation performance prediction method is proposed, and the feasibility of this method is demonstrated in combination with experiments of a mixed flow pump. However, whether this method is applicable to vane pumps with different specific speeds and whether the prediction results of this method are accurate is still worthy of further study. Combined with the experimental results, the research evaluates the sensitivity and accuracy at different flow rates. For a certain operating condition, the method has better sensitivity to different flow rates. This is suitable for multi-parameter multi-objective optimization of pump impeller. For the test mixed flow pump, the method is more accurate when the area ratios are 13.718% and 13.826%. The cavitation vortex flow is obtained through high-speed camera, and the correlation between cavitation flow structure and cavitation performance is established to provide more scientific support for cavitation performance prediction. The method is not only suitable for cavitation performance prediction of the mixed flow pump, but also can be expanded to cavitation performance prediction of blade type hydraulic machinery, which will solve the problem of rapid prediction of hydraulic machinery cavitation performance.

  • In this paper, a study result to decide the accuracy specifications of inertial sensors satisfying the performance requirements of SINS(ship's inertial navigation system) is proposed. To do this, the performance specifications of overseas SINS is surveyed and the detailed error analysis of SINS at stationary condition is performed. Also, a new performance index to indicate the performance of SINS is derived. Modelling and simulation results show that the accuracy specifications of inertial sensors to meet the performance requirements of SIGMA40XP, a typical overseas SINS, can be determined through the newly derived performance index in this paper.

  • Real-time hybrid testing (RTHT) involves virtual splitting of the structure into two parts: physical substructure that contains the key region of interest which is tested in a laboratory and numerical substructure that contains the remaining part of the structure in the form of a numerical model. This paper numerically assesses four step-by-step integration methods (Central difference method (CDM), Operator splitting method (OSM), Rosenbrock based method (RBM) and CR-integration method (CR)) which are widely used in RTHT. The methods have been assessed in terms of stability and accuracy for various realistic damping ratios of the physical substructure. The stability is assessed in terms of the spectral radii of the amplification matrix while the accuracy in terms of numerical damping and period distortion. In order to evaluate the performance of the methods, five carefully chosen examples have been studied - undamped SDOF, damped SDOF, instantaneous softening, instantaneous hardening and hysteretic system. The performance of the methods is measured in terms of a non-dimensional error index for displacement and velocity. Based on the error indices, it is observed that OSM and RBM are robust and performs fairly well in all the cases. CDM performed well for undamped SDOF system. CR method can be used for the system showing softening behaviour. The error indices indicate that accuracy of OSM is more than other method in case of hysteretic system. The accuracy of the results obtained through time integration methods for different damping ratios of the physical substructure is addressed in the present study. In the presence of a number of integration methods, it is preferable to have criteria for the selection of the time integration scheme. As such criteria are not available presently, this paper attempts to fill this gap by numerically assessing the four commonly used step-by-step methods.

  • Efficient development of method on a performance evaluation for machine tools has been regarded as the most important work for accuracy and quality enhancement to every user and manufacturer. A evaluation method of accuracy for machine tools has been studied recently according to the rapid increase of interest in precision machine tools. To this point of view, the circular interpolation test of machine tools is recognized as the most useful method to distinguish a dynamic accuracy of NC machine tools by ISO and ANSI/ASME, etc. In this paper, we have studied and developed the form measurement system with grid encoder to analyse the final accuracy of NC machine tools. we have analyzed the servo system error and geometric error of NC machine tools through measuring a dynamic error signal by this system. and then we verified the experimental result and enhanced the reliability by means of comparing the characteristics of the developed system with the kinematic ball-bar system.

  • In this study, we compared the detection accuracy of the parameters of the scaffold failure detection model. A detection algorithm based on convolutional neural network was used to construct a failure detection model for scaffold. The parameter properties of the model were changed and the results were quantitatively verified. The detection accuracy of the model for each parameter was compared and the parameter with the highest accuracy was identified. We found that the activation function has a significant impact on the detection accuracy, which is 98% for softmax.

  • Machining information such as form accuracy and surface roughness is an important factor for manufacturing precise parts. To this regard, OMM (On the Machine Measurement) has been researched for last several decades to alternate CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machine) process. In this research, the OMM system with a laser displacement sensor was developed for measuring form accuracy and surface roughness of the machined workpiece on the machine tool. The surface roughness was estimated comparing the sensory signal with the reference data measured from master specimen. Also, form accuracy was determined from the moving averaged raw data. In addition, the geometric error map constructed beforehand using the geometric errors of the machine tool was used to compensate the obtained form accuracy. The overall performance was compared with CMM result, and verified the feasibility of the measurement system.

  • The machining accuracy has been improved with the development of NC machine tools and cutting tools. However, it is difficult to obtain a high degree of accuracy when machining deep pocket with long end mill, since machining accuracy is mainly dependant on the stiffness of the cutting tool. To improve surface accuracy in machining deep pocket using end mill, the performance by down cut and up cut is compared theoretically and experimentally. To verify usefulness of up milling, various experiments were carried out. As a result, it is found that up milling produce more accurate surface than down milling in machining deep pocket. For effective application of up milling, various values in helix angle, number of teeth, radial depth of cut and axial depth of cut are applied in experiment.

  • This study aimed to compare the education effect of easily accessible cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) applications on smart-phones. The differences of performance and accuracy of CPR between animation CPR group and modified Pocket CPR group in Reserve Officers' Training Corps students of K university were evaluated by 2010 AHA guidelines. Data were collected from May 19, 2012 to May 20, 2012. There was no statistically significant difference between both of group in the performance and accuracy of CPR. However, the modified Pocket CPR group showed significant increase in the accuracy of chest compression depth (26.4%, p<.05), while the animation CPR group showed significant increase in the accuracy of chest compression location after the education (25.2%, p<.01). In conclusion, the methods using advantage and complementing disadvantage of animation CPR application and Pocket CPR application could help that people could easily access and perform to CPR.
