The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and precision of the three-dimensional (3D) imaging system of children's facial soft tissue by comparing linear measurements. The subjects of the study were 15 children between the ages of 7 and 12. Twenty-three landmarks were pointed on the face of each subject and 16 linear measurements were directly obtained 2 times using an electronic caliper. Two sets of 3D facial images were made by the 3D scanner. The same 16 measurements were obtained on each 3D image. In the accuracy test, the total average difference was 0.9 mm. The precision of 3D photogrammetry was almost equivalent to that of direct measurement. Thus, 3D photogrammetry by the 3D scanner in children had sufficient accuracy and precision to be used in clinical setting. However, the 3D imaging system requires the subject's compliance for exact images. If the clinicians provide specific instructions to children while obtaining 3D images, the 3D device is useful for investigating children's facial growth and development. Also the device can be a valuable tool for evaluating the results of orthodontic and orthopedic treatments.

Objective: A recently developed facial scanning method uses three-dimensional (3D) surface imaging with a light-emitting diode. Such scanning enables surface data to be captured in high-resolution color and at relatively fast speeds. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and precision of 3D images obtained using the Morpheus 3D$^{(R)}$ scanner (Morpheus Co., Seoul, Korea). Methods: The sample comprised 30 subjects aged 24.34 years (mean $29.0{\pm}2.5$ years). To test the correlation between direct and 3D image measurements, 21 landmarks were labeled on the face of each subject. Sixteen direct measurements were obtained twice using digital calipers; the same measurements were then made on two sets of 3D facial images. The mean values of measurements obtained from both methods were compared. To investigate the precision, a comparison was made between two sets of measurements taken with each method. Results: When comparing the variables from both methods, five of the 16 possible anthropometric variables were found to be significantly different. However, in 12 of the 16 cases, the mean difference was under 1 mm. The average value of the differences for all variables was 0.75 mm. Precision was high in both methods, with error magnitudes under 0.5 mm. Conclusions: 3D scanning images have high levels of precision and fairly good congruence with traditional anthropometry methods, with mean differences of less than 1 mm. 3D surface imaging using the Morpheus 3D$^{(R)}$ scanner is therefore a clinically acceptable method of recording facial integumental data.
Multi-detector row CT (MDCT) provides faster speed, longer coverage in conjunction with thin slices, improved spatial resolution, and ability to produce high quality muliplanar and three-dimensional (3D) images. MDCT has revolutionized the non-invasive evaluation of the central airways. Simultaneous display of axial, multiplanar, and 3D images raises precision and accuracy of the radiologic diagnosis of central airway disease. This article introduces central airway imaging with MDCT emphasizing on the emerging role of multiplanar and 3D reconstruction.
An artificial neural network model based on a deep learning algorithm is known to be more accurate than humans in image classification, but there is still a limit in the sense that there needs to be a lot of training data that can be called big data. Therefore, various techniques are being studied to build an artificial neural network model with high precision, even with small data. The transfer learning technique is assessed as an excellent alternative. As a result, the purpose of this study is to develop an artificial neural network system that can classify burr images of light guide plate products with 99% accuracy using transfer learning technique. Specifically, for the light guide plate product, 150 images of the normal product and the burr were taken at various angles, heights, positions, etc., respectively. Then, after the preprocessing of images such as thresholding and image augmentation, for a total of 3,300 images were generated. 2,970 images were separated for training, while the remaining 330 images were separated for model accuracy testing. For the transfer learning, a base model was developed using the NASNet-Large model that pre-trained 14 million ImageNet data. According to the final model accuracy test, the 99% accuracy in the image classification for training and test images was confirmed. Consequently, based on the results of this study, it is expected to help develop an integrated AI production management system by training not only the burr but also various defective images.
Binocular-pair images obtained from two cameras can be used to calculate the three-dimensional (3D) world coordinate of a feature point. However, to apply this method, measurement accuracy of binocular vision depends on some structure factors. This paper presents an experimental study of measurement distance, baseline distance, and baseline direction. Their effects on camera reconstruction accuracy are investigated. The testing set for the binocular model consists of a series of feature points in stereo-pair images and corresponding 3D world coordinates. This paper discusses a method to increase the baseline distance of two cameras for enhancing the accuracy of a binocular vision system. Moreover, there is an inflexion point of the value and distribution of measurement errors when the baseline distance is increased. The accuracy benefit from increasing the baseline distance is not obvious, since the baseline distance exceeds 1000 mm in this experiment. Furthermore, it is observed that the direction errors deduced from the set-up are lower when the main measurement direction is similar to the baseline direction.
UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) can acquire high-resolution images due to low-altitude flight, and it can be photographed at any time. Therefore, the UAV images can be updated at any time in map production. Due to these advantages, studies on the possibility of producing large-scale digital maps using UAV images are actively being conducted. Precise digital maps can be used as base data for digital twins or smart cites. For producing a precise digital map, precise sensor modeling using GCPs (Ground Control Points) must be preceded. In this study, geometric models of UAV images were established through a precision sensor modeling algorithm developed in house. Then, a digital map by stereo plotting was produced to evaluate the possibility of large-scale digital map. For this study, images and GCPs were acquired for Ganseok-dong, Incheon and Yeouido, Seoul. As a result of precision sensor modeling accuracy analysis, high accuracy was confirmed within 3 pixels of the average error of the checkpoints and 4 pixels of the RMSE was confirmed for the two study regions. As a result of the mapping accuracy analysis, it satisfied the 1:1,000 mapping accuracy announced by the NGII (National Geographic information Institute). Therefore, the precision sensor modeling technology suggested the possibility of producing a 1:1,000 large-scale digital map by UAV images.

The 3D spatial model is an analysis framework for solving urban problems and is used in various fields such as urban planning, environment, land and housing management, and disaster simulation. The utilization of drones that can capture 3D images in a short time at a low cost is increasing for the construction of 3D spatial model. In terms of building a virtual city and utilizing simulation modules, high location accuracy of aerial survey and precision of 3D spatial model function as important factors, so a method to increase the accuracy has been proposed. This study analyzed location accuracy of aerial survey and precision of 3D spatial model by each condition of aerial survey for urban areas where buildings are densely located. We selected Daerim 2-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul as a target area and applied shooting angle, shooting altitude, and overlap rate as conditions for the aerial survey. In this study, we calculated the location accuracy of aerial survey by analyzing the difference between an actual survey value of CPs and a predicted value of 3D spatial Model. Also, We calculated the precision of 3D spatial Model by analyzing the difference between the position of Point cloud and the 3D spatial Model (3D Mesh). As a result of this study, the location accuracy tended to be high at a relatively high rate of overlap, but the higher the rate of overlap, the lower the precision of 3D spatial model and the higher the shooting angle, the higher precision. Also, there was no significant relationship with precision. In terms of baseline-height ratio, the precision tended to be improved as the baseline-height ratio increased.
Purpose: This study aimed to compare the accuracy of 3-dimensional(3D) printed models derived from multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) systems with different fields of view (FOVs). Materials and Methods: Five human dry mandibles were used to assess the accuracy of reconstructions of anatomical landmarks, bone defects, and intra-socket dimensions by 3D printers. The measurements were made on dry mandibles using a digital caliper (gold standard). The mandibles then underwent MDCT imaging. In addition, CBCT images were obtained using Cranex 3D and NewTom 3G scanners with 2 different FOVs. The images were transferred to two 3D printers, and the digital light processing (DLP) and fused deposition modeling (FDM) techniques were used to fabricate the 3D models, respectively. The same measurements were also made on the fabricated prototypes. The values measured on the 3D models were compared with the actual values, and the differences were analyzed using the paired t-test. Results: The landmarks measured on prototypes fabricated using the FDM and DLP techniques based on all 4 imaging systems showed differences from the gold standard. No significant differences were noted between the FDM and DLP techniques. Conclusion: The 3D printers were reliable systems for maxillofacial reconstruction. In this study, scanners with smaller voxels had the highest precision, and the DLP printer showed higher accuracy in reconstructing the maxillofacial landmarks. It seemed that 3D reconstructions of the anterior region were overestimated, while the reconstructions of intra-socket dimensions and implant holes were slightly underestimated.
High-resolution satellite images at sub-5m footprint are becoming increasingly available to the earth observation community and their respective clients. The related cameras are all using linear array CCD technology for image sensing. The possibility and need for accurate 3D object reconstruction requires a sophisticated camera model, being able to deal with such sensor geometry. We have recently developed a full suite of new methods and software for the precision processing of this kind of data. The software can accommodate images from IKONOS, QuickBird, ALOS PRISM, SPOT5 HRS and sensors of similar type to be expected in the future. We will report about the status of the software, the functionality and some new algorithmic approaches in support of the processing concept. The functionality will be verified by results from various pilot projects. We put particular emphasis on the automatic generation of DSMs, which can be done at sub-pixel accuracy and on the semi-automated generation of city models.

In this paper, we present a multiple-view stereo matching method in case of moving in the direction of optical axis with stereo camera. Also we analyze the obtainable depth precision to show that multiple-view stereo increases the virtual baseline with single-view stereo. This method decides candidate points for correspondence in each image pair and then search for the correct combinations of correspondences among them using the geometrical consistency they must satisfy. Adantages of this method are capability in increasing the accuracy in matching by using the multiple stereo images and less computation due to local processing. This method computes 3-D depth by averaging the depth obtained in each multiple-view stereo. We show that the resulting depth has more precision than depth obtainable by each independent stereo when the position of image feature is uncertain due to image noise. This paper first defines a multipleview stereo agorithm in case of moving in the direction of optical axis with stereo camera and analyze the obtainable precision of computed depth. Then we represent the effect of removing the incorrect matching candidate and precision enhancement with experimental result.
