  • Reproductive abilities in beef cattle herds are receiving increased attention due to recent rises in production costs. To achieve more efficient management, a measure of fertility, namely the number of calves produced at k yr of age ($NCP_k$), was developed and its genetic parameters were estimated from Japanese Black cows by restricted maximum likelihood procedures. The k examined were distributed from 2 to 10 yr of age and $NCP_2$ averaged 1.077 calves over 43,536 cows. The averages increased by approximately 0.9 calf with each additional 1 yr increment in k. Heritabilities of $NCP_k$ were estimated to be low ranging from 0.083 to 0.162, which seemingly suggested a difficulty of genetic improvement. However, large genetic variation and high accuracy were observed in predicted breeding values of $NCP_k$. For example, the breeding values of $NCP_7$ were predicted between -0.303 and +0.213 with average accuracy of 0.607 for cows with observations. Genetic correlations among different k were generally high and positive (0.474 to 0.995). The analyses showed that at least $NCP_4$ was required to maintain the genetic correlations of 0.8 or higher with subsequent $NCP_k$. Also $NCP_5$ maintained the genetic correlations of 0.9 or higher with subsequent $NCP_k$ The results suggested some possibilities for $NCP_k$ to be a selection criterion considering its genetic variation, high accuracy and consistency with subsequent performance.

  • An ontology is a complex structure dictionary that defines the relationship between terms and terms related to specific knowledge in a particular field. There have been attempts to construct various ontologies in Korea and abroad, but there has not been a case in which a large scale crime investigation record is constructed as an ontology and a service is implemented through the ontology. Therefore, this paper describes the process of constructing an ontology based on information extracted from instrusion theft field of unstructured data, a crime investigation document, and implementing an ontology-based search service and a crime spot recommendation service. In order to understand the performance of the search service, we have tested Top-K accuracy measurement, which is one of the accuracy measurement methods for event search, and obtained a maximum accuracy of 93.52% for the experimental data set. In addition, we have obtained a suitable clue field combination for the entire experimental data set, and we can calibrate the field location information in the database with the performance of F1-measure 76.19% Respectively.

  • In order to estimate accurate position by GPS observations, it is prerequisite to define both of the correct function model and the realistic stochastic model. In the case that un-modeled outliers exist in observations, estimates become biased, and their standard deviations are unable to be used as a measure which represents their accuracy. Hence, such outliers should be appropriately removed from the observations before estimating final solutions, so that the accuracy can be maximized with the improvement of the reliability. For this purpose, this research deals with quality control and quality measure computation algorithms for GPS stand-alone positioning. After theoretical studies, all the algorithms have been implemented and tested with real observations. Results of the tests indicate that the reliability of the estimated position is improved by increasing redundancy as well as using good satellite geometry and more realistic stochastic model. Moreover, the adaptation of the quality control procedure enable to improve positioning reliability and accuracy by appropriately excluding outlier in observations.

  • For a data with the assumption of the mixture distribution, it is important to find an appropriate threshold and evaluate its performance. The relationship is found of well-known nine classification accuracy measures such as MVD, Youden's index, the closest-to-(0, 1) criterion, the amended closest-to-(0, 1) criterion, SSS, symmetry point, accuracy area, TA, TR. Then some conditions of these measures are categorized into seven groups. Under the normal mixture assumption, we calculate thresholds based on these measures and obtain the corresponding type I and II errors. We could explore that which classification measure has minimum type I and II errors for estimated mixture distribution to understand the strength and weakness of these classification measures.

  • An ultrasonic based magnetostrictive position sensor (MPS) provides an indication of real target position. It determines the real target position by multiplying the propagation speed of ultrasonic wave and the time-of-flight between the receiving signals; one is the initial signal by an excitation current and the other is the reflection signal by the ultrasonic wave. The propagation speed of the ultrasonic wave depends on the temperature of the waveguide. Hence, the change of the propagation speed in various environments is a critical factor in terms of the positioning accuracy in the MPS. This means that the influence of the changes in the waveguide temperature needs to be compensated. In this paper, we presents a novel way to improve the positioning accuracy of MPSs using temperature compensation for waveguide. The proposed method used the inherent measurement blind area for the structure of the MPS, which can simultaneously measure the position of the moving target and the temperature of the waveguide without any additional devices. The average positional error was approximately -23.9 mm and -1.9 mm before and after compensation, respectively. It was confirmed that the positioning accuracy was improved by approximately 93%.

  • In recent years, many wearable devices and mobile apps related to life care have been developed, and a service for measuring the movement during walking and showing the amount of exercise has been provided. However, they do not measure walking in detail, so there may be errors in the total calorie consumption. If the user's behavior is measured by a multi-axis sensor and learned by a machine learning algorithm to recognize the kind of behavior, the detailed operation of walking can be autonomously distinguished and the total calorie consumption can be calculated more than the conventional method. In order to verify this, we measured activities and created a model using a machine learning algorithm. As a result of the comparison experiment, it was confirmed that the average accuracy was 12.5% or more higher than that of the conventional method. Also, in the measurement of the momentum, the calorie consumption accuracy is more than 49.53% than that of the conventional method. If the activity recognition is performed using the wearable device and the machine learning algorithm, the accuracy can be improved and the energy consumption calculation accuracy can be improved.

  • Purpose: To explore the usefulness of previous fall history as a triage variable for inpatients. Methods: Medical records of 21,382 patients, admitted to medical units of one tertiary hospital, were analyzed retrospectively. Inpatient falls were identified from the hospital's self-report system. Non-falls in 1,125 patients were selected by a stratified matching sampling with 125 patients with falls (0.59%). A comparative and predictive accuracy analysis was conducted to describe differences between the two groups with and without a history of falls. Logistic regression was used to measure the effect size of the fall history. Results: The fall history group showed higher prevalence by 9 fold than the non-fall history group. The relationships between falls and relevant variables which were significant in the non-fall history group, were not significant for the fall history group. Falls in the fall history group were 25 times more likely than in the non-fall group. Predictive accuracy of the risk assessment tool showed almost zero specificity in the fall history group. Conclusion: The presence of fall history, the fall prevalence, variables relevant to falls, and the accuracy of the risk tool were different, which support the usefulness of the fall history as a triage variable.

  • PURPOSE: People with physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy usually experience obstacles when interacting with computer through conventional keyboard because of their motor disabilities. The purpose of this study is empirically compare of text entry(alphabet and word) speed and accuracy using the three different keyboard type on four students(male 2 and female 2) with cerebral palsy. METHODS: This research design used a replicated single-case experimental approach to compare the individual performance. An alternating treatments design was used to examine the effectiveness of standard QWERTY keyboard and alternative keyboard(mini and big keyboard) on computer access for students with cerebral palsy. To avoid changes in posture that influence a keyboard character entry training and evaluation was carried out using his sitting in a wheelchair. Compass software program used in this study as an assessment tool to measure speed and accuracy when performance of text entry(alphabet and word). This was repeated until the stable status of reaction time. RESULTS: As a result, the alternative keyboard seems to be the most effective device for students with cerebral palsy to perform text entry. But various factors such as peculiarity of motor disabilities, experience and preferences of the user are heavily related. CONCLUSION: Thus, we must perform the objective and systematic assessment for computer access and if sustained training is accomplished, it could to improve speed and accuracy of text entry(alphabet and word).
