원자력 사고시 가축의 공기 흡입과 토양 섭취에 의한 축산물의 오염 - 우유에 대한 오염 영향을 중심으로 (Predictive Contamination of Animal Products Due th the Inhalation of Air and the Ingestion of Soil of Cattle in an Accidental Release of Radioactive Materials - Focusing on Contaminative Influence for Milk)

  • 동적 섭식경로모델 DYNACON을 개선하여 원자력시설의 사고시 환경으로 누출된 방사성물질에 의한 가축의 공기 흡입과 토양 섭취에 따른 축산물의 오염 영향을 고찰하였다. 이들 두 오염경로에 대한 수학적 모델은 고려되는 모든 축산물에 대해 수립되었지만 결과에 대한 상세 고찰은 우유에 국한하였다. 젖소의 공기 흡입과 토양 섭취는 방사성물질의 환경 누출이 목초가 성장하지 않는 비방목 기간에 일어나는 경우에 우유의 중요한 오염경로가 될 수 있다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 비방목 기간동안 방사성물질이 환경으로 누출되는_경우 초기에는 공기 흡입이 토양 섭취에 의한 영향보다 높으나, 시간이 경과할수록 토양 섭취가 우유의 오염에 있어서 지배적 영향을 미쳤다. 이러한 현상은 전반적으로 지상으로 상대적으로 많은 침적을 일어나게 하는 누출기간 중 강우가 있는 경우에 보다 뚜렷하였다. $^{137}Cs$$^{90}Sr$의 경우와 달리 $^{131}I$은 누출기간 중 강우에 거의 영향을 받지 않았다. 방목기간에 방사성물질이 환경으로 누출되는 경우 누출기간 중 강우의 유무에 관계없이 공기 흡입에 의한 우유의 오염 영향은 무시 가능한 수준이었다.

  • The previous dynamic food chain model was improved for the consideration of the influence of radioactive contamination to agricultural products due to rain during the environmental releases of radionuclides in a nuclear accident Wet interception coefficients for the agricultural plants were derived as a function of radionuclide and rainfall amount, and mathematical formulations of the previous model were modified. As a result, rain during accidental releases was influential in agricultural contamination. The contamination level of agricultural products decreased dramatically according to increasing rainfall amount. It means that predictive concentrations in agricultural products using the previous model, in which dry interception to the agricultural plants is only considered, can be overestimated. The influence of rainfall in agricultural contamination was the most sensitive for $^{131}$ I, and the least sensitive for $^{90}$ Sr among the radionuclides considered in this study.

  • 방사성물질의 대기 누출 사고시 환경에서 핵종 거동을 모사하는 동적 섭식경로모델 DYNACON을 개선하여, 가축 (육우)의 공기 흡입과 토양 섭취가 육류 (쇠고기)의 방사능 오염에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 이들 두 오염경로는 누출이 육우의 비방목 기간에 일어나는 경우에 육류의 오염에 있어서 결코 무시될 수 없는 경로라는 사실을 확인하였다. 특히 누출 후 대부분 기간에 걸쳐 토양 섭취에 의한 육류의 오염 영향이 공기 흡입에 의한 영향에 비해 우세하였다. 누출 기간동안 강우는 토양 섭취에 의한 육류의 오염에 중요한 요소로 작용하였으며, 이러한 현상은 단반감기 핵종인 $^{131}I$ 보다 장반감기 핵종인 $^{137}Cs$의 경우에 보다 뚜렷하였다. 이전에 수행된 우유에 대한 분석 결과와 비교하여 공기 흡입과 토양 섭취는 육류에 대해 보다 중요한 오염경로로 나타났는데, 이는 상대적으로 육류에서 핵종의 긴 생물학적 반감기 때문이다. 방목기간에 방사성물질이 대기로 누출되는 경우 누출 기간동안 강우의 유무에 관계없이 목초 섭취에 의한 오염 영향이 지배적이었으며, 결과적으로 토양 섭취와 공기 흡입에 의한 오염 영향은 우유의 경우와 마찬가지로 무시할 수 있는 수준이었다.

  • As nuclear industry has been developed, a various types of radiological contamination has occurred. After 9.11 terror in U.S.A., it has been concerned that terrorists' active area has been enlarged to use nuclear or radioactive substance. Recently, the most powerful earth-quake stroke, which triggered a massive tsunami in Japan and then Fukushima nuclear power plant reactor has suffered from a serious accident in history. The Fukushima reactor accident has occurred an anxiety of radiation leaks and about 170,000 people have been evacuated from the accidental area near the nuclear power plant. For these reasons, a social chaos can be occurred if radiological contamination occurs to the supply system for the drinking water. As such, the establishment of the radiation monitoring system for the city main water system is compelling for the national security. In this study, a feasibility test of radiation monitoring system which consists of unified hybrid-type radiation detectors was experimented for multi detection system by using gamma-ray imaging. The hybrid-type radiation sensors were fabricated with CsI(Tl) scintillators and photodiodes. A preamplifier and amplifier was also fabricated and assembled with the sensor in the shielding case. For the preliminary test of detection of radiological contamination in the river, multi CsI(Tl)-PIN photodiode radiation detectors and $^{137}Cs$ gamma-ray source were used. The DAQ was done by Linux based ROOT program and NI DAQ system with Labview program. The simulated contamination was assumed to be occurred at Gapcheon river in Daejeon city. Multi CsI(Tl)-PIN photodiode radiation detectors were positioned at the Gapcheon river side. Assuming that the radiological contaminations flows in the river the $^{137}Cs$ gamma-ray source has been moved and then, the contamination region was reconstructed.

흙의 구성광물과 간극수의 성분이 비저항값에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Soil Wineral and Component of the Pore Fluid to the Electrical Resistivity)

  • The environmental problem of the rural area has been accelerated in soil as well as water. Soil contamination is usually caused by improper operation of landfills, abandoned mine fields, accidental spills, and illegal dumpings. Once soil contamination is initiated, pollutants migrate and may cause groundwater contamination which takes much effort for remediation. Early detection, therefore, is important to prevent further contamination. Electrical resistivity method was used to detect soil contamination, but it was not effective to the heterogeneous condition. Static cone penetrometer test (CPT) has been used widely to investigate geotechnical properties of the underground. In this study, electrical resistivity method and CPT are combined to improve the applicability of it. The pilot test was performed to examine the variation of electrical resistivity with different soil minerals and pore fluid characteristics. Soil samples used were poorly graded sand, silty sandy soil, and weathered granite soil. For all the cases, electrical resistivity decreased with increasing of moisture content. Soil mineral also affected the electrical resistivity significantly. Above all, leachate addition in the pore fluid was very sensitive and caused decreasing of electrical resistivity markedly. It implies that electrical resistivity method can be applied to investigate pollutant plume effectively. This is specially sure when the sensors contact the contaminated soils directly. The CPT method involves cone penetration to the ground, therefore, underground contamination around the cone could be investigated effectively even for heterogeneous condition as it penetrates if electrical resistivity sensors are attached on the cone.

복합유류 토양오염에 따른 유종 해석 (The Interpretation of Petroleum Species from Contaminated Soil by Complex Oil)

  • Clean soil environment is of crucial importance to sustain lives of ecosystem and humans. With rapid industrialization, there has been a great increase of soil contamination by accidental releases of petroleum products. In general, soil remediation is an expensive and time-consuming process as compared to cleanup of water and air. Moreover, determining the source and responsible parties of soil pollution often turns into legal conflicts and that further delay the cleanup process of contaminated sites. In practice, total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) analysis has been employed to determine the petroleum species and to track down the responsible polluters. However, this approach often suffers from differentiating similar TPH species. In this study, we analyzed TPH chromatogram patterns of 24 domestic petroleum products in specific carbon ranges (${\sim}C_{10}$, $C_{10}-C_{12}$, $C_{12}-C_{36}$, and $C_{36}{\sim}$) and the fractional changes of THP ratio in the mixture products of gasoline, kerosene and diesel. The proposed TPH analysis method in this study could serve as a useful tool to better analyze the petroleum species in soils contaminated with complex oil mixtures, and ultimately be used to identify the polluters of soil.

중소기업 화학 사업장의 안전관리 실태 조사 분석 (A Research and Analysis on the Actual Condition of Safety Management at Small-Medium Chemical Plant)

  • Most of chemical plant are using toxic and dangerous materials, inflammable and poisonous. There are many accidental dangers by escaping of fire, explosive and poisonous materials in case of high temperature and pressure. The accidents lead to taking employer's and local people's life and environmental contamination. Therefore, 27 small-medium chemical plant, which size is 30 ∼ 200 employees out of safety management agent ill the area of A was selected in this study. The problems of safety management and several countermeasures at the chemical plants was indicated through the analyzed data. Prior to this analysis, top managers' concerns, equipment maintenance for the safety management are needed. For the future, calamity prevention countermeasures by industrial disaster analysis are needed and active safety management programs are investigated for the industrial disaster prevention and productivity enhancement at the chemical plant.

도시환경에서 방사성물질의 오염평가 모델개발 (A Model for Evaluating the Radioactive Contamination in the Urban Environment)

  • 원자력 시설의 사고로 대기로 누출된 방사성 핵종의 도시환경 오염에 따른 사고결과해석을 위한 기본 단계로써 도시환경에 대한 오염평가 모델 METRO-K를 개발하였다. 모델은 3가지 방사성 핵종 $(^{137}Cs,\;^{106}Ru,\;^{131}I)$을 고려하며, 그 중에서 요오드는 3가지 다른 화학적 형태 (입자형태, 유기형태, 원소형태)를 구분하여 다루고 있다. 모델은 도시환경을 구성하는 5가지 주요표면 (지붕, 포장도로, 벽, 잔디/토양, 나무)에 대해 시간에 따른 방사성물질의 농도를 평가한다. 개발된 모델을 사용하여 강우량에 따른 표면의 오염영향과 아울러 체르노빌 사고시 유럽지역에서 측정된 공기중 $^{137}Cs$ 농도와 강우량 자료를 사용한 적용결과를 고찰하였다. 고찰결과 대부분 표면에서 강우량은 오염에 중요한 영향을 나타냈으며, 이러한 영향의 정도는 표면과 핵종에 따라 상이한 결과를 보였다. $^{137}Cs$의 오염은 $^{131}I$ (원소형태)에 비해 강우에 보다 민감한 영향을 나타냈다.

Assessment of natural radionuclides and heavy metals contamination to the environment: Case study of Malaysian unregulated tin-tailing processing industry

  • The tin tailing processing industry in Malaysia has operated with minimal regard and awareness for material management and working environment safety, impacting the environment and workers in aspects of radiation and heavy metal exposure. RIA was conducted where environmental samples were analyzed, revealing concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K between the range of 0.1-10.0, 0.0-25.7, and 0.1-5.8 Bq/g respectively, resulting in the AED exceeding UNCEAR recommended value and regulation limit enforced by AELB (1 mSv/y). Raeq calculated indicates that samples collected pose a significant threat to human health from gamma-ray exposure. Assessment of heavy metal content via pollution indices of soil and sediment showed significant contamination and enrichment from processing activities conducted. As and Fe were two of the highest metals exposed both via soil ingestion with an average of 4.6 × 10-3 mg/kg-day and 1.4 × 10-4 mg/kg-day, and dermal contact with an average of 5.6 × 10-4 mg/kg-day and 6.0 × 10-4. mg/kg-day respectively. Exposure via accidental ingestion of soil and sediment could potentially cause adverse non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic health effect towards workers in the industry. Correlation analysis indicates the presence of a relationship between the concentration of NORM and trace elements.
