With the development of mobile communications and Internet technology, there is a strong need to provide seamless and fast connectivity for roaming devices. Generally, the mobile host (MH) may have several available networks when entering a new wireless area. However, the standard of decision for user's internet connection is provided only the subsystem identification (SSID) and signal strength of access point (AP). These two standards could not enough to decide optimal AP to the MH. Therefore, to decide the optimal AP, more information is needed. In this paper, we present additional information such as status of MH, capacity, current load, and depth of network hierarchy, by router advertisement message at layer 3. Also, we proposed decision engine (DE) on the MH that analyzes APs and decides the optimal AP automatically by AP's status information. For the MH, wireless connection period is increased, the power consumption is decreased, and the signaling overhead is reduced. For AP and router, the load balancing is provided and the network topology can also be more efficient.

As ship-based tourism increases, safe sailing and management are necessary to prevent maritime accidents. Because external rescue support cannot arrive rapidly in the case of ship-related accidents, the initial response is very important for damage minimization. Further, for secondary damage prevention, it is necessary to accurately determine passenger positions. In this paper, considering the characteristics of a ship, the enhanced-Zigbee(e-Zigbee) position determination technology (PDT) is applied, which improved upon the Zigbee PDT by having advantages such as low power consumption and smaller size. According to user needs, a low-cost and high-precision passenger positioning tag and access point(AP) is provided. A ship testbed that yields improved positioning accuracy based on a performance evaluation is constructed.

As services using mobile devices increase, exposure of personal information, and secure threats increase. In this paper, we propose a location-based user authentication system used in mobile device for tightening security. Our authentication system is performed to authenticate two steps. The first authentication is location authentication to ensure that the user accesses an application in trustable space. This authentication method uses an Access Point's information. The second authentication is trustable space authentication to confirm the normal user. This method is carried out the authentication by using biometric information from the user.

In this paper, we proposed the novel algorithm which controls the resolution of the HDMI(High Definition Multimedia Interface) by the channel estimation from WiFi-AP(Access Point) in the ISM(Industry-Science-Medical) band. The 2.4 and 5 GHz channel models are widely used since they have identical RF property as RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indication). Especially, the performance degradation of signal-transmission and streaming of WiFi will be occurred by the co-channel interference between AP(Access Point) and increased number of smart devices. Therefore, the optimization scheme of video format timing was designed by HDMI-CEC(Consumer Electronics Control) which considers the transmission speed of radio channel. The HDMI resolution, video quality of home-gateway and digital TV and the decision of PIP position can be maintained by the protocols between smart devices and DLNA(Digital Living Network Alliance) via proposed technique.

ATC (Abnormal traffic controller) is presented as next generation security technology to securely support reliable Internet service and to guarantee network survivability, which is deployed in Internet access point. The key concept of the ATC is abnormal traffic monitoring and traffic control technology. When fault factors exist continuously and/or are repeated, abnormal traffic control guarantees service completeness as much as possible. The ATC with control policy on abnormal traffic is superior to the ATC with blocking policy as well as conventional network node, when the ratio of effective traffic to abnormal traffic is higher than $30{\%}.$ When traffic intended unknown attack occurs, network IDS is high false positive probability and so is limited to apply. In this environment, the ATC can be a key player to help the network node such as router to control abnormal traffic.

Recently, smartphone, notebook, PC and other supporting wireless LAN device have come into wide use. By increasing user that use wireless LAN device, wireless traffic also increased. If wireless traffic through one AP is increase, it causes throughput decrease. To solve this problem, wireless LAN service provider install more AP where overload occurred. But this is not enough. Because stations can't know AP's load factor, and APs do nothing for load balancing. In this paper, we propose Multi-Interface Access Point(MIAP) to solve this problem. MIAP operate same as multiple APs with multi-interface, and MIAP measure each interface's load periodically. If MIAP detect overloaded interface, MIAP transfer station from overloaded interface to under-loaded interface. We conducted an experiment for verifying existing problem, and we found this problem occurred. We plan an experiment scenario for a comparison between existing AP and MIAP, and excute these experiment. In the result, we show MIAP with load balancing can improve total throughput about 72% and stabilize delay jitter than existing AP.

Floor number determination has attracted considerable attention because many applications require accurate floor number information for providing better localization services in multistory buildings. This paper describes a Wi-Fi-based, low-complexity floor number determination method for multistory buildings. In our scheme, with the exception of floor ID and received signal strength of each WAP, detailed information on the wireless access point (WAP) coordinates is not needed. The multi-wall-floor model is used for the simulation and analysis. The simulation results show that the floor determination accuracy is nearly 100 given an adequate deployment density of WAPs on each floor. The results also show that the proposed method provides a good estimate of floor number even when only a few WAPs are implemented on each floor. Specifically, the proposed method can work under extreme conditions, i.e., where there are no WAPs on a floor.

Due to advances in wireless communications and portable terminals, any-time, any-where, and any-device Internet access is possible. In particular, Internet access in moving vehicles is an emerging and challenging issue. Even though a variety studies have been conduced for vehicular networks, little attention is paid to vehicular Wi-Fi networks where a Wi-Fi access point (AP) is installed at the vehicle and the AP is connected to an external base station (BS). In this paper, we conduct a measurement study on the uplink and downlink throughput for Internet access in vehicular Wi-Fi networks. We consider diverse network environments: high-speed train, car, and subway. Measurement results demonstrate that current Internet access in vehicular Wi-Fi networks are not satisfactory for interactive multimedia applications. Therefore, in-depth study on resource management in vehicular Wi-Fi networks is strongly required.

The ownership of scholarly communication, i.e. copyright is very important to solve the problem of access to many academic journals in network environment. The purpose of this article is to give a conceptual model for the open access based scholarly communication. The main point of this model is for the authors of research paper to retain copyright on their works and to license the work whenever it is reproduced or redistributed for non-profit use with academic purpose. And library have to construct full text journal databases under this open access license.

In order to utilize the licensed channel of cognitive radio (CR) when the primary user (PU) is detected busy, a benefit-exchange access mode based on cooperative communication is proposed to allow secondary user (SU) to access the busy channel through giving assistance to PU's communication in exchange for some transmission bandwidth. A holistic joint optimization problem is formulated to maximize the total throughput of CR system through jointly optimizing the parameters of cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS), including the local sensing time, the pre-configured sensing decision threshold, the forward power of cooperative communication, and the bandwidth and transmission power allocated to SUs in benefit-exchange access mode and traditional access mode, respectively. To solve this complex problem, a combination of bi-level optimization, interior-point optimization and exhaustive optimization is proposed. Simulation results show that, compared with the tradition throughput maximizing model (TTMM), the proposed holistic joint optimization model (HJOM) can make use of the channel effectively even if PU is busy, and the total throughput of CR obtains a considerable improvement by HJOM.
