  • Usability is defined by the effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction with which specified users can achieve specified goal in particular environment. Today, many factors such as software acquisition, business re-engineering and the trend of software market have software industry considers usability as an important quality of software products. Therefore, the specification and measurement method for establishing the acceptable usability level of software is required during software development acquisition and evaluation. To evaluate whether software products is usable or not, we need evaluation method for software usability. This paper is not only to provide a framework for specifying the usability attributes of a product and establishing a comprehensive set of usability criteria, but also assessing usability metrics of the software. The usability metrics and checklist is developed based on the properties of the user interface using ISO standard and general usability principles with product-oriented view which means the Product has attributes contributing to determine the usability. This paper also suggested the way to weight the relative importance of the individual usability item depending on the software categories.

  • Most important factor to consider funnel performance is exhaust gas temperature and exhaust gas concentration Electric equipments on the wheelhouse top affected exhaust gas temperature. So, it is important that electric equipments keep away from high temperature. Though exhaust gas concentration is not a regulation and restraint, the exhaust 9as can cause serious problems for the on-board air quality and result in irreversible damage to the ship and people. So, we pocus on the exhaust gas concentration also. When judge whether a measured concentration is acceptable or not, criteria based on the LTEL (Long Term Exposure Limit). In this paper, we carried out the smoke simulation study. For this analysis, we used FLUENT which is commercial CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) code.

  • The catenary system supported by the tunnel bracket which has been used uniquely in KNR was selected as the catenary inside narrow existing tunnel in the electrification of Kyeung-Bu Line for operation of Korea High Speed Train(KTX). It was demanded to judge the maximal operable speed of KTX in this catenary system to implement the planning. To do this, the tunnel bracket was firstly tested to obtain the characteristic data. The stiffness of this bracket are computed depending on the location which catenary installed on. Moreover, the catenary using tunnel bracket is modelled numerically respecting the bracket stiffness. Based on these, the dynamics between this catenary and KTX pantograph are simulated with the program developed by ourselves independently. The simulation result are evaluated according to the generally acceptable criteria. Consequently, the maximal operable speed of KTX in the catenary using KNR(Korean National Railroad) tunnel bracket is predicted and some items which are needed to be kept in the processing of implementation are drawn.

  • PMS(Pavement Management System) is the effective and efficient decision making system to provide pavements in an acceptable condition at the lowest life-cycle cost. As the highway system become larger, the necessity of the PMS in increasing. As of December 1995, the 3rd stage of PMS project was completed. The accomplishment of the research work can be itemized to the followings : $\bullet$ Calibration of PMS submodules (1) Pavement Condition Evaluation Model (2) Pavement Distress Prediction Model (3) Pavement Performance Prediction Mode (4) Selection of Pavement Rehabilitation Criteria (5) Optimization Technique for PMS Economic Analysis $\bullet$ Development of Computer Program to Implement PMS Logic $\bullet$ A Study to Implement the Automized Pavement Condition Survey Equipment to PMS $\bullet$ PMS Test Run $\bullet$ Development of PMS Operation Guideline $\bullet$ The 2nd Pavement Condition Survey for Long-Term Pavement Performance Monitoring.

  • To evaluate the degree of traffic noise at the main shopping districts, 30 sites, in Pusan and produce the basic data of traffic noise counterplan, this research was conducted. Noise rating methods utilized were Leq(equivalent continuous sound level), Lr (rating sound level) and TNI (traffic noise index). As the results, all sites passed beyond Korean Environmental Noise Standard 70 dB(A) in Leq and 46.7% sites fell under 'widespread complaints'step, 40.0% 'threat of community' action'step, 13.3% 'vigorous community action'step by Lr ratings, and 30.0% sites were over acceptable TNI criteria of 74. Therefore, traffic noise at Pusan shopping districts was very severe.

  • In the most field of today's technology we can recognize that they are being developed faster than any other era. The common phenomena of the current technology are; large in scale, complicate in process, exposed to large number of people. Although it certainly has contributed to the welfare of humankind, we could realize that the technology has adverse effect to us. Actually we had to experienced numbers of disastrous accidents from many fields modern technologies are being adopted. Hundreds of people, sometimes thousands of people had to die without being noticed why and when. It is clear that we have to manage the risk existing in modern technology. In this paper I wanted to direct they way to adjust the public concerning to the public safety by introducing the method of risk assessment, acceptable risk criteria, and risk management model.

  • In an attempt to optimize friction spot joining process of Al alloys for automobiles, effects of joining parameters such as tool rotating speed, plunging depth, and joining time on the joints properties were investigated. A wide range of joining conditions could be applied to join Al alloys for automobile without defects in the weld zone except for certain welding conditions with a lower heat input. For sound joints without defects, tensile shear strength of joints was higher than acceptable criteria of tensile shear strength of resistance spot welded joints for aluminum.

  • The present standard of drinking water quality is not reached to the guidelines of WHO and US EPA recommended. The appraisal of safety is not appropriate by the results of intermittent and limitted analysis. 45 items of drinking water quality are regulated in the Korean standard and 9 items for inspection designated by Seoul City. This report is the results of analysis of the water quality in the water stations of Seoul which are concerned with the items of Korean water quality standard and the priolity pollutnats recommended by WHO. In the results, 45 items of water quality, and the priolity pollutants were not exceeded to the standard and criteria, while DDT, heptachlor-epoxide, THMs, benzo(a)pyrene, Ba, Al, Gross beta, $^{226}$Ra, $^{90}$Sr were detected, the levels were not exceeded to the WHO guidelines. In ordes to evalute the safety of drinking water quality, besides of the existed items of standard, new hazardouse pollutants should be considered monitored continenously. For the regulation of hazardous pollutants, it may be introduced from the risk assessment. According to the relevant assessment, the acceptable risk of pollutants estimated could be applied to set the water quality standard or recommendations or quidelines as well as the number of monitoring.

  • Geo-scientifically viable, environmentally suitable, and socially acceptable sanitary landfill sites are very limited in the Kathmandu Valley and is confronted with the burning problem of safe disposal of urban waste. This paper deal with the evaluation and assessment of its interface, following the major criteria defining suitable geological barrier, Cation Exchange Capacity and other necessary physical parameters with the optimum utilization of remotely sense data along with GIS techniques. The study revealed one of the most viable sites at the flat land of natural depression of Taikabu area and has potential to serve all the municipalities of the Kathmandu Valley.
