A high level CVT ratio control algorithm is proposed to improve the engine performance by considering the powertrain response lag. In this algorithm, the desired CVT speed ratio is modified from the vehicle velocity, which is estimated after the time delay due to the powertrain response lag. In addition, the acceleration map is constructed to estimate the vehicle acceleration from the throttle pedal position and the CVT ratio. Using the CVT ratio control algorithm and the acceleration map, vehicle performance simulations are performed to evaluate the engine performance and fuel economy. It is found that the fuel economy can be improved about 3.6% for FUDS by the ratio control algorithm for the target vehicle. In selecting the appropriate time delay, compromise between the fuel economy and the acceleration performance is required.

In the turbopump inducer of a liquid propellant rocket engine, cavitation is affected by acceleration that occurs during an actual launch sequence. Since cavitation instabilities such as rotating cavitations and cavitation surges are suppressed during launch, it is difficult to obtain data on the influence of acceleration on cavitation instabilities. Therefore, as a fundamental investigation, in the present study, a three-blade cyclic cascade is simulated numerically in order to investigate the influence of acceleration on time-averaged and unsteady characteristics of cavitation that arise in cascade. Several cases of acceleration in the axial direction of the cascade, including accelerations in the upstream and downstream directions, are considered. The numerical results reveal that cavity volume is suppressed in low cavitation number condition and cavitation performance increases as a result of high acceleration in the axial-downstream direction, also, the inverse tendency is observed in the axial-upstream acceleration. Then, the regions in which the individual cavitation instabilities occur shift slightly to a low-cavitation-number region as the acceleration increases downstream. In addition, in a downstream acceleration field, neither sub-synchronous rotating cavitation nor rotating-stall cavitation are observed. On the other hand, rotating-stall cavitation occurs in a relatively higher-cavitation-number region in an upstream acceleration field. Then, acceleration downstream is robust against cavitation instabilities, whereas cavitation instabilities easily occur in the case of acceleration upstream. Additionally, comparison with the Froude number under the actual launch conditions of a Japanese liquid propellant rocket reveals that the cavitation performance will not be affected by the acceleration under the current launch conditions.

On the prediction of driving performance, an acceleration performance is normally simulated in stall starting condition which is the engine status of full-throttle and high-speed. The lack of transient engine torque data makes the difficulty of predicting an acceleration performance on engine-idle start condition. A experimental equation of transient engine torque is derived from vehicle performance test data. It is applied to simulation the accleration performance prediction on idle starting condition.

By applying the P$_1$ and P$_2$ equations to the operator form of a synthetic acceleration, we derive the p,-acceleration (diffusion synthetic acceleration: DSA) and P$_2$-acceleration (p$_2$SA) schemes in one dimensional slab geometry. We Fourier-analyze the derived acceleration schemes with the discrete-ordinates transport equation and showed that the DSA outperforms the P$_2$SA. These results confirm that one cannot simply assume that replacement of the DSA with a higher order approximation will lead to a better acceleration performance.

Basic experiments were carried out using the THT-IV low-power Hall thruster to examine the influences of magnetic field shape and strength, and acceleration channel length on thruster performance and to establish guidelines for design of high-performance Hall thrusters. Thrusts were measured with varying magnetic field and channel structure. Exhaust plasma diagnostic measurement was also made to evaluate plume divergent angles and voltage utilization efficiencies. Ion current spatial profiles were measured with a Faraday cup, and ion energy distribution functions were estimated from data with a retarding potential analyzer. The thruster was stably operated with a highest performance under an optimum acceleration channel length of 20 mm and an optimum magnetic field with a maximum strength of about 150 Gauss near the channel exit and with some shape considering ion acceleration directions. Accordingly, an optimum magnetic field and channel structure is considered to exist under an operational condition, related to inner physical phenomena of plasma production, ion acceleration and exhaust plasma feature. A new Hall thruster was designed with basic research data of the THT-IV thruster. With the thruster with many considerations, long stable operations were achieved. In all experiments at 200-400 V with 1.5-3 mg/s, the thrust and the specific impulse ranged from 15 to 70 mN and from 1100 to 2300 see, respectively, in a low electric power range of 300~1300 W. The thrust efficiency reached 55 %. Hence, a large map of the thruster performance was successfully made. The thermal characteristics were also examined with data of both measured and calculated temperatures in the thruster body. Thermally safe conditions were achieved with all input powers.

An experimental study was performed to investigate the improvement of response performance of a turbocharged diesel engine under the operating conditions of low speed and fast acceleration. In this study, the experiment for improving the low speed and acceleration performance is performed by means of injecting air into the intake manifold of compressor exit during the period of low speed and application of a fast acceleration from low speed. The effects of air injection into the intake manifold on the response performance were investigated at various applicant parameters such as air injection pressure, accelerating rate, accelerating time, engine speed and load. The experimental results show that air injection into the intake manifold at compressor exit is closely related to the improvement of turbocharger lag under low speed and accelerating conditions of a turbocharged diesel engine. During the rapid acceleration period, the air injection into the intake manifold of turbocharged diesel engine indicates the improvement of the combustion characteristics and gas pressure in the cylinder. At low speed range of the engine, the effect of air injection shows the improvement of the pressure distribution of turbocharger and combustion pressure during the period of gas exchange pressure.
In order to investigate performance changes, the acceleration, vibration, and braking performance tests were carried out on the electric multiple units (EMUs) with over 20 years operation. According to the testing results, in vibration and braking performance, the similar performance results were obtained as compared with newly manufactured EMUs. However, in terms of acceleration performance, below reference value (3.0 km/h/s) has been obtained. This is mainly due to performance deterioration including traction motor. The precision diagnosis evaluation of deteriorated EMUs will be provided through the overall evaluation of corrosion testing and structural performance of car body.

The purpose of this study is to analyze whether startup CEOs' self-efficacy and hope have a mediating effect on the relationship between satisfaction with an acceleration program and business performance. While the impact of acceleration programs on business performance has been validated through various studies, this research aims to examine whether differences in business performance, despite participating in the same program, are attributable to the characteristics of the participants. To this end, satisfaction with the acceleration program was set as the independent variable, business performance (financial performance and non-financial performance) as the dependent variable, and self-efficacy and hope among positive psychological capital as the mediating variables. A survey was conducted on startup CEOs who participated in acceleration programs offered by financial public institutions, specifically the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund and the Industrial Bank of Korea, in order to minimize the influence of differences in accelerator competence and program quality. The empirical analysis results indicate that satisfaction with the acceleration program has a positive effect on both the financial and non-financial performance of startups, and hope serves as a mediating factor in this relationship. This study suggests that to improve business performance of startups, policy efforts are needed to activate and enhance the roles of domestic accelerators. Additionally, it proposes that in order to maximize the effectiveness of acceleration programs, detailed components of these programs should be designed to elevate the participants' level of hope.
Shake table testing has been regarded as one of the most effective experimental approaches to evaluate seismic response of structural systems subjected to earthquakes. However, reproducing a prescribed acceleration time history precisely over the frequency of interest is challenging because shake table test systems are eventually nonlinear by nature. In addition, interaction between the table and specimen could affect the control accuracy of shake table testing significantly. Various novel control algorithms have been proposed to improve the control accuracy of shake table testing; however, reference values for control performance assessment remain rare. In this study, reference values for control performance assessment of shake table testing are specified based on the statistical analyses of 1,209 experimental data provided by the Seismic Simulator Laboratory of National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering in Taiwan. Three individual reference values are considered for the assessment including the root-mean-square error of the achieved acceleration time history; the percentage of the spectral acceleration that exceeds the determined tolerance range over the frequency of interest; and the error-ratio of the achieved peak ground acceleration. Quartiles of the real experimental data in terms of the three objective variables are obtained, providing users with solid and simple references to evaluate the control performance of shake table testing. Finally, a set of experimental data of a newly developed control framework implementation for uni-axial shake tables are used as an application example to demonstrate the significant improvement of control accuracy according to the reference values provided in this study.

Structural acceleration regulation is a means of managing structural response energy and enhancing the performance of civil structures undergoing large seismic events. A quadratic output regulator that minimizes a measure including the total structural acceleration energy is developed and tested on a realistic non-linear, semi-active structural control case study. Suites of large scaled earthquakes are used to statistically quantify the impact of this type of control in terms of changes in the statistical distribution of controlled structural response. This approach includes the impulses due to control inputs and is shown to be more effective than a typical displacement focused control approach, by providing equivalent or better performance in terms of displacement and hysteretic energy reductions, while also significantly reducing peak story accelerations and the associated damage and occupant injury. For earthquake engineers faced with the dilemma of balancing displacement and acceleration demands this control approach can significantly reduce that concern, reducing structural damage and improving occupant safety.
