  • The purpose of this study is to develop an optimal performance design ova concrete median barrier using the design of experiment and crash simulation which is done by Pam-Crash, one of the commercial crash simulation software. A formula of characteristic value was suggested to obtain an optimal performance design considering all of von Mises stress, volume and acceleration at center of gravity of a heavy truck. An optimal design of a concrete median barrier was obtained by the analysis of variance based on design of experiment and crash simulation. A crash simulation with the optimal design was accomplished in order to verify the suitability of the suggested formula and the proper application of the design of experiment. The obtained optimal design was satisfied for a domestic design regulation of a concrete median barrier.

  • The application area of parallel mechanism is limited in spite of many advantages of that because the workspace of platform is a very small. Thus enlargement of workspace is important issue in design of parallel mechanism. In this paper a parallel mechanism design method is described using commercial simulation program. Firstly strokes of the assembled parallel mechanism's active joints are simulated from kinetic simulation mode to get required workspace, Secondly, dynamic parameters(velocity, acceleration, force, moment) are simulated for the gravity, friction and exit load. Finally, workspace of moving platform is displayed and workspace of area is simulated by motion analysis. The results of this paper will help engineer to design parallel mechanism with optimize workspace.

  • The FastSound project is a galaxy redshift survey using Subaru/FMOS to detect $H{\alpha}$ emitting galaxies at z ~ 1:3, for the purpose of probing the origin of the accelerated expansion of the universe. The survey has detected ~4,000 galaxy redshifts in a total area of $30deg^2$, and detected the redshift space distortion at this redshift range for the first time. The redshift space distortion (RSD) signal will be used to derive a measurement of the growth rate of large scale structure, which will provide a test for modified gravity as a possible origin of accelerated cosmic explansion. Here we present an overview and the current status of the project.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the possibility of identifying joint damping property through commercially available isokinetic ergometer (BIODEX). The proposed method is to estimate the damping torque of the knee joint from the difference between the external joint torque for maintaining isokinetic movement and the gravity torque of the lower leg. The damping torque was estimated at various joint angular velocities, from which the damping property would be derived. Measurement setup was composed of the BIODEX system with an external force sensor and Labview system. Matlab was used in the analysis of the damping property. The experimental result showed that the small variation in angular velocity due to acceleration and deceleration of the crank arm resulted in greater change of inertial torque than the damping torque, so that the estimation of damping property from the isokinetic movement is difficult.

  • This dissertation presents the results on two-dimensional Redshift space distortion (hereafter RSD) analyses of the large-scale structure of the universe using spectroscopic data and on improvement of modeling of the RSD effect. RSD is an effect caused by galaxies' peculiar velocity on their clustering feature in observation along the line of sight and is thus intimately connected to the growth rate of the structure in the universe, from which we can test the origin of cosmic acceleration and Einstein's theory of gravity at cosmic scales in the end. However, there are several challenges in modeling precise and accurate RSD effect, such as non-linearities and the existence of an exotic component, e.g. massive neutrino. As part of endeavors for modeling more precise and accurate galaxy clustering in redshift space, this dissertation includes a series of works for this issue. • Zinc selenide (ZnSe) single crystals hold promise for many electro-optics, acousto-optic and green laser generation applications. This material is prepared in closed ampoules by the physical vapor transport (PVT) growth method based on the dissociative sublimation. We investigate the effects of diffusive-convection on the crystal growth rate of ZnSe with a low vapor pressure system in a horizontal configuration. Our results show that for the ratios of partial pressures, s=0.2 and 2.9, the growth rate increases with the Peclet number and the temperature differences between the source and crystal. As the ratio of partial pressures approaches the stoichiometric value of 2, the rate increases. The mass fluk based on one dimensional (1D model) flow for low vapor pressure system fall within the range of the predictions (2D model) obtained by solving the coupled set of conservation equations, which indicates the flow fields would be advective-diffusive. Therefore, the rate and the flow fields are independent of gravity acceleration levels.

  • Fine structures of a quiescent prominence are studied by analyzing high resolution H alpha filtergrams and H alpha line spectra observed at the Hida Observatory of Kyoto University. We have found two kinds of downward motions in the prominence. One of them is a movement with a constant acceleration below the solar gravity(${\simeq}1/4g_s$) and the other with an uniform velocity(${\simeq}16Km/s$). The average life time and the size of prominence knots are estimated to be about 7 minutes and 4000Km, respectively. Spatial and brightness distribution of knots are also presented in this paper. With the analytical solutions derived from magnetostatic equilibrium in the prominence, we have examined the filamentary structure based on the Kippenhahn-Schluter model. Sag angles of the magnetic fields supporting the prominence matter are predicted from the observed density profile.

  • Telematics services include automatic location tracking for emergency rescue, which is available for use in case of a car accident due to falling off roadways. This paper presents a simulation study on how far a car will fall before it hits the ground if it drops off of a roadway due to an accident or a natural disaster. The greatest horizontal distance the falling car can travel is presented in this paper, based on the assumption that air resistance as well as the direction and degree of acceleration due to gravity is negligible. This paper also presents the depth of the dent caused by the car sinking into the ground, the time it took for the car to fall free, and the velocity at which it travelled and horizontal distance it traveled. In this paper, the damage done to cars that crash into the ground and the dangers thereof are graphically represented.
