Purpose: This study investigates the factors affecting spirituality in nursing students. Method: A total of 247 nursing students participated in the study. Data were analyzed by frequencies, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple stepwise regression via SPSS WIN 18.0. Results: The mean scores for hope, gratitude, and spirituality were above-average. However, there were significant mean differences in spirituality according to religion, religious activity, voluntary service, satisfaction with the nursing field, and motivation for entering a college of nursing. Spirituality positively correlated with hope and gratitude. Significant predictors of spirituality included hope, gratitude, voluntary service and religious activity. The regression model explained 51.3% of perceived spirituality. Conclusion: To improve spirituality among nursing students, nursing educators should develop educational intervention programs to promote hope and gratitude, and support participation in voluntary service and religious activity.

Method: The subjects were 110 primary caregivers of patients who were receiving home health care from two home health care centers affiliated with general hospitals in Seoul. Data collection was conducted using five questionnaires. Results: Positive relationships were evident between QOL and social support and perceived health status of the primary caregiver. Negative relationships were evident between QOL and burden and depression. Multiple linear regression analysis for QOL revealed that the most powerful influencing factor was social support. Social support, burden, and depression explained 34.3% of the variance. Conclusion: Burden, depression, and social support are related with QOL of primary caregivers of home health care patients. Nursing intervention strategies directed at this caregiver population are needed.

Effective interventions to reduce work-related exposures are available for many types of work-related diseases or injuries. However, knowledge of the impact of these interventions on injury or disease outcomes is scarce due to practical and methodological reasons. Study designs are considered for the evaluation of occupational health interventions on occupational disease or injury. Latency and frequency of occurrence of the health outcomes are two important features when designing an evaluation study with occupational disease or occupational injury as an outcome measure. Controlled evaluation studies-giving strong indications for an intervention effect-seem more suitable for more frequently occurring injuries or diseases. Uncontrolled evaluation time or case series studies are an option for evaluating less frequently occurring injuries or diseases. Interrupted time series offer alternatives to experimental randomized controlled trials to give an insight into the effectiveness of preventive actions in the work setting to decision and policy makers.
As social changes, there are growing number of instituted infants. Most of them were poor growth and developmental outcome due to situational and environmental vulnerability. Developmental interventions for this infants have been the subjects of debate for many years. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of massage intervention on the physical growth of orphaned infants during the first 6 month of life. This study utilized equivalent control group with repeated measuring by quasi experimental design. Fifty eight orphaned infants were randomly assigned to control(n=28), or an experimental(n=30) group. In addition to routine orphanage care, infants in the experimental group received 15 minutes of massage intervention twice a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks. Data has been collected from April 1st, 2000 to August 31st, 2002 and were analyzed using SPSS/PC(Version 10.0) with chi-square test, t-test, and repeated measures ANOVA to determine the effectiveness of massage intervention and to test the homogeneity of general characteristics between experimental and control group. The results were as follows; Compared to the control group, the experimental group has gained significantly more weight(F=33.52, p < .0001) and had larger increases in length(F=10.04, p < .0001) and head circumference(F=49.78, p < .000) after the 4-week intervention period and at 6 months of age. These data demonstrate that massage intervention may be effective in facilitating growth for newborn infants placed in orphanages during first 6 months of life.
