  • Purpose Local governments in each region actively hold local festivals for the purpose of promoting the region and revitalizing the local economy. Existing studies related to local festivals have been actively conducted in tourism and related academic fields. Empirical studies to understand the effects of latent variables on local festivals and studies to analyze the regional economic impacts of festivals occupy a large proportion. Despite of practical need, since few researches have been conducted to predict the number of visitors, one of the criteria for evaluating the performance of local festivals, this study developed a model for predicting the number of visitors through various observed variables using a machine learning algorithm and derived its implications. Design/methodology/approach For a total of 593 festivals held in 2018, 6 variables related to the region considering population size, administrative division, and accessibility, and 15 variables related to the festival such as the degree of publicity and word of mouth, invitation singer, weather and budget were set for the training data in machine learning algorithm. Since the number of visitors is a continuous numerical data, random forest, Adaboost, and linear regression that can perform regression analysis among the machine learning algorithms were used. Findings This study confirmed that a prediction of the number of visitors to local festivals is possible using a machine learning algorithm, and the possibility of using machine learning in research in the tourism and related academic fields, including the study of local festivals, was captured. From a practical point of view, the model developed in this study is used to predict the number of visitors to the festival to be held in the future, so that the festival can be evaluated in advance and the demand for related facilities, etc. can be utilized. In addition, the RReliefF rank result can be used. Considering this, it will be possible to improve the existing local festivals or refer to the planning of a new festival.

  • Background: Singapore has the stable healthcare system with utilizing pharmacist manpower in proper positions by demand of populations' health among Asian countries. Objective: This study aims to systematically review (1) the pharmacists' role and (2) the pharmacy education system of Singapore in comparison with Korea. Method: We searched for information about academic, medical and governmental institutions related to professional pharmacists' practice in Singapore by primarily using database such as DBpia, KISS, Google Scholar and ProQuest and the official website of the Singapore Ministry of Health. We contacted and arranged the visit schedules with National University of Singapore, National Health Group's polyclinics, Agency for Integrated Care, National University Hospital, and community chain pharmacies. During onsite visits, we interviewed pharmacists working in each institution and obtained additional documents and materials relevant to this manuscript work. Results: To become a registered pharmacist in Singapore, the pharmacy curriculum requires four full-time academic years and six additional months allotted for pre-registration training. Pharm.D. course is offered for pharmacy graduate students with additional two full-time years of study. Team teaching and inter professional education program seem the most significant method in pharmacy education. Pharmacists working at hospitals, polyclinics, and community pharmacies in Singapore take broader roles and offer more cognitive services such as smoking cessation program and medication reconciliation. Especially, pharmacists in Agency for Integrated Care fill the role of primary care providers for the continuing care of the community through the governmental support toward the patients-centered integrated care. Conclusion: Singaporean pharmacists take significant and active roles in collaboration with other healthcare providers. Efforts such as interprofessional pharmacy education and governmental endorsement of the systematic and interactive care between pharmacists and other medical providers in Singapore are needed to be urgently applied to Korea healthcare system for the promotion of population health.

  • This study proposes the O P E N Triad framework as a future set of tools and perspectives for individual members and institutes to further their professional and academic potential as well as prospect and vitalize the future of the Korean Clothing and Textiles discipline through a global perspective. The millennial generation desires On-demand, Personal, Engaging, and Networked (O P E N) experiences effecting cultural change for creative and influential interaction in transactions, communication, and education. O P E N Individuals offers a WebSphere model as a holistic learning system that has a synergizing value of education across academic courses, industries, and cultures. Through a digitalized and virtualized class, it complements relevant technologies already familiar to the student population. By employing environmental scanning approaches, the most influential and viable future global issues related to the clothing and textiles discipline are identified and dialogued within O P E N Institutes. For future clothing and textiles institutes, this scanning allows them to be open to new ideas, to focus on inter-engagements, to collaborate among individuals, to associate as a part of web of people, organizations, and ideas, to personalize an institutes curricula, and to dialogue generative knowledge. O P E N Industries reveals three dominant future issues that cross academia and industry, sustainability, supply chain management, and social networking. In-depth interviews with U.S. industry experts identified interdependent gaps in global consumer experience practices and suggested the following gaps as future research areas: a standardized business model to the entrepreneurial model, strategic management to a sustainable competitive advantage, standardized to differentiated products, services and operations, market segmentation to global consumer clusters, business-driven marketplaces to consumer-engaged marketspaces, and excellent services to optimal experience. This O P E N Triad framework empowers millennial students, universities, and industries to anticipate and prepare for a radically changing world.

  • The purpose of this survey study is to guide the direction of the RN-BSN program in Korea by analyzing (1) the philosophy and objectives (2) curriculum (3) and appraisal method, achievement test and self-directed learning. In this study, subjects consisted of 20 department of nursing in University and 20 RN-BSN programs in Korea. The Survey was conducted from September 1999 through May 2000 by mail and FAX. 1) Educational philosophy and objectives of 5 RN-BSN programs have curricular based philosophy. Most popular philosophies were revealed that nursing is oriented role function, human relation, and integrated application. 9 RN-BSN programs have curricular based objectives. There are including of knowledge, applying the new technology, under-standing of human being family community, application of nursing process, leadership, nursing ethics, and participation in research. 2) In RN-BSN programs, total mean credits through general college courses for earning the degree of BSN is 21.5 and total mean credits through the nursing area for earning the degree of BSN is 71.4. In RN-BSN programs, total mean credits through clinical practice for earning the degree of BSN is 5.94. 25.00 of mean credits was earned through achievement test(6.00~37.00). Therefore, this research suggests some recommendation for the development of curriculum of RN-BSN program that was required to do some alterations. And the various and other methods of earning credit should be developed. That is, the students will earn credits, accredited examination of University, advanced placement examination, case study, self-report, self-directed learning and achievement tests, portfolio review session and so on. • Most of the curricula of higher educational institutions, including universities, have been operated on a theoretical basis, and as a result, the academic talents have been mismatched with the competencies of industrial demand. Since 2015, the government project called "IPP-type Work and Learning Dual Program(WLDP)" is supporting four-year universities to minimize the academic talents mismatch. The purpose of the project is to improve the working ability of students by linking IPP with WLDP. However, the outcome of linking IPP to WLDP has been frustrating so far. In this study, "WLDP coupled with IPP" is proposed to reduce the perception gap between students and companies. In the suggested progress, student performs IPP first and WLDP second. Two examples have shown that the suggestion can be a quite effective process in matching student with the company.
