  • Purpose: This study was done to develop and test a maternal role strengthening program based on home care nursing. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was employed. Changes in the variables(maternal identity and confidence of maternal role) were evaluated to test the effects of the developed program. Participants were first-time mothers receiving home care nursing from S Medical Center following normal spontaneous vaginal delivery(experimental group 29; control group 29). Data collection was conducted from December 2008 to February 2009. $X^2$-test, Fisher's exact test and t-test were used to analyse the data. Results: Hypothesis 1, that the experimental group receiving this program would experience a stronger maternal identity than the control group, was supported(t=-7.990, p=<.001). Hypothesis 2, that the experimental group would have higher confidence in their maternal role than the control group, was also supported(t=-10.109, p=<.001). Conclusion: The maternal role strengthening program based on home care nursing developed in this study was found to be an effective means of improving maternal identity and confidence of maternal role. As these traits are developed once the baby is born, active nursing programs which provide continuous training and demonstrations to mothers are needed prior to hospitalization and following hospital discharge.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine influential factors for the transition to college life and career identity of nursing students and what changes social support from parents brought about to them by academic year. The subjects in this study were 542 selected students who majored in nursing in four-year universities located in Seoul and the provinces. A self-administered survey was conducted to find out their general characteristics, social support from fathers and mothers, college adjustment and career identity. A hierarchical regression analysis was made to determine how social support from parents affected the college adjustment and career identity of the nursing students. Social support from parents had an impact on their college adjustment and career identity. The factors that affected college adjustment were academic year, satisfaction level with major and emotional support from mothers, and the factors that impacted on career identity were academic year, satisfaction level with major and informative support from fathers. In order to facilitate the college adjustment of nursing students, professors should try to develop efficient learning methods, meet with parents to inform them of the necessity of social support, share information on the major field of study and learning methods, and provide an opportunity for students to communicate with graduates or students who are years ahead of them in college so that they could have a better understanding of majoring in nursing.

  • In the rapidly changing field of Management Information Systems, the definition and educational programs must be continually reevaluated and revised. A study was conducted to find a way to which the modeling principle is applied for redefining the identity of Management Information Systems as an independent academic field and to develop a plausible MIS curriculum based on the modeling principle. Previous researches on the MIS frameworks, knowledge and technology requirements for IS professionals, and standard MIS curriculums were reviewed thoroughly. For this study, the Kantian cognitive model was adopted as a basis of modeling principle. The result shows that modeling ability has been the core competence of IS people in the field of MIS. The applicability of a modeling principle is also verified in establishing the identity of MIS and developing a normative MIS curriculum. For the MIS field to thrive as an independent academic field and research discipline, it is believed to be imperative for the discipline to have a unique educational goals distinguished from both other management areas, and sub-fields of computer science.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing intentions regarding blood donation among nursing university students. Methods: We collected data from 165 nursing students at a university in D city via a self-administered questionnaire from May 28 to May 30, 2018. Results: Intentions of blood donation had significant positive correlations with blood donation motivation (r=.52, p<.001). Also, blood donation motivation had significant positive correlations with self-identity (r=.27, p=.013). A regression analysis showed that factors affecting intention of blood donation were intrinsic motivation for blood donation (${\beta}=.30$, p=.028), and extrinsic motivation for blood donation (${\beta}=.32$, p=.013). These factors explained 25% of intentions of blood donation (F=8.06, p<.001). Conclusion: Therefore, motivation and self-identity should be considered when developing blood donation programs for nursing college students.
