Financial Analysis by Conditional Quantile Regression on Corporate Research & Development Intensity for KOSDAQ-listed Firms in the Korean Capital Market (국내 자본시장의 코스닥 상장기업들의 연구개발비 비중에 대한 분위회귀모형을 활용한 재무적 분석)

  • This research analyses the financial characteristics of corporate R&D intensity in the Korean capital market. It is important to pay greater attention to this subject, given the current situation of the shortage of core components domestically in Korea. Three hypotheses are postulated to investigate the financial factors of R&D investments for KOSDAQ-listed firms during the post-era of the global financial turmoil. By applying a conditional quantile regression (CQR) model, three variables included R&D intensity in the previous year (Lag_RD), the squared term of Lag_RD, and interaction between the high-tech sector and Lag_Rd, reveal significant effects on the current R&D ratio. Whereas more than half of the total variables show variable impacts between firms with higher and lower R&D intensity, only Lag_RD and squared term of Lag_RD were found to be significant. It is expected that these results may contribute to being financial catalysts for an optimal level of R&D expenditures, thereby maximizing firm value for shareholders in KOSDAQ-listed firms.

R&D trends for green catalytic technology developments (그린에너지 촉매 기술개발 동향분석)

  • The aim of this study was to obtain a complete picture of green catalytic technology developments. The data set for analysis was collected from the data from 4,172 patents, 28,726 technical papers and 548 Government R&D projects. The covering periods were 2001 to 2012 for patents and technical papers, whereas while that for the Government R&D projects were 2001 to 2011. The analysis methodologies consisted of qualitative and quantitative approaches. The patent for catalytic technology has been increasing, even though it was developed some time ago. The increase in patents for catalytic technology has been outstanding since 2008. As a result of the analysis of patents, fuel cell comprised 41.9%, followed by coal liquefaction 23.6%. The analysis of technical papers ranked fuel cell ranked 1st, followed by hydrogen. Fuel cells, hydrogen and coal liquefaction outperformed in green catalytic technological developments. As a result of this study, it was apparently concluded that the speed for the green economy from the fossil fuel-based economy has accelerated. Therefore it will be necessary to prepare for the early realization of a green energy-based economy on a variety of aspects as soon as possible.

A study on the Determinant Priority of Royalty between Government-funded research centers and Companies who were transferred the technology. ; Focused on the case of 'N' Center. (기술이전 협상에서 기술도입 기업의 기술료 결정 요인 중요도에 관한 연구 ; N 사업단 기술도입 기업 사례를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to present meaningful information and policy implications concerning the determinants of royalties to the government-funded research centers and agencies. These groups are responsible for policies encouraging technology transfer from the public sector to the private sector. To identify key determinants of royalties in technology transfer, this study conducted AHP survey analysis (Survey period: 01/10~31/10, 2016) of 85 companies which were participants of the R&D project "Next Generation BioGreen21" of R.D.A in the "N"center from 2011 to 2015. Research results show that the critical factors include: 1)Technical considerations for determining the profitability of the technologies, 2)The interest and willingness of the management group, 3)Necessity and urgency of technology transfer. These findings suggest three main policy implications. First, the government-funded research centers and agencies should develop technologies that help companies improve their commercialization as well as the profitability in the near future. Second, government-funded research centers and agencies should consider reducing the administrative burden of the royalty payment for private companies. Third, public R&D projects should reflect the proper research schedule for technology development on the basis of the R&D time span of companies which transfer technology.

Controlling Ownership and R &D Investment in Chinese Firms (지배주주 지분율과 연구개발 투자: 중국 상장기업을 대상으로)

  • Using 1795 observations from the 5 year-359 firm panel data collected during the period from 2009 to 2013 in Chinese stock exchanges, this study examines the impact of the controlling shareholders' ownership on R & D expenditure. This empirical study finds that when firms are state-owned, the controlling shareholders' ownership has a U shaped relation with the level of R & D expenses. A non-linear relation is also found when piece-wise regression models are applied. This empirical study also finds that when firms are private-owned, the controlling shareholders' ownership is negatively related to the level of R & D expenses, and no structural changes in the relation are found when piece-wise regression models are applied. These results support the hypothesis that the effects of the controlling shareholders' ownership on R & D expenses may differ depending on the ownership type of the controlling shareholders. This finding suggests that the differences in the controlling shareholders' incentives due to their ownership type should be considered when exploring the relation between the controlling shareholders' ownership and corporate strategic decisions.

Relationship-type R&D Portfolio Method for Selection of Core Technology (중점기술 선정을 위한 관계분석형 R&D 포트폴리오 방법)

  • The relationship-type research and development (R&D) portfolio is a method for selecting core technologies based on their unique purposes and characteristics when the criteria for selecting them are independent. This study presents a relationship-type R&D portfolio method as a way to derive core technologies, and describes the methodology by dividing it into three steps: 1) analyze the relationships between selection criteria and analytical indicators, 2) form a portfolio matrix that best matches each selection criteria, and 3) derive the core technologies. In this study, the relationships between four selection criteria for selecting core technologies and the analytical indicators for identifying the technology level, economics, and the technology itself, are written in a table with HoQ. Based on the relationship table, analytical indicators to be considered were derived to satisfy each selection criterion, and the derived analytical indicators and the selected technologies were constructed with two axes in the portfolio matrix. The satisfied portfolio, P0, that satisfies all four criteria, and the portfolio, P1~P4, that satisfies selection criteria based on the unique characteristics of the four criteria, were constructed, and core technologies derived. The selected core technologies can be utilized in selecting a core area against the future security environment through a process like key word analysis based on the specifications.

Estimation of air pollutants generated in the industrial-waste incinerator using Aspen plus (Aspen plus를 이용한 산업폐기물 소각공정시 발생 오염물질 예측)

  • 최근 화석에너지 고갈 문제와 폐기물의 지속적인 발생량 증가로 인해 폐기물을 이용한 열에너지 회수가 이슈화 되고 있다. 폐기물처리를 통한 에너지 회수 공정 가운데 소각이 가장 많이 이용되고 있으나 소각시 발생하는 대기오염 물질을 처리하기 위한 설계 및 설치비용에 많이 소요 된다. 본 연구에서는 화학공정 모사기인 Aspen plus를 이용해 소각공정 및 배가스 처리 공정모사를 실시하였다. 폐기물 소각 공정으로는 1 2차 연소실과 NO2를 환원하는 SNCR공정, 산성가스(HCl, SO2)를 제거하는 SDA공정, 입자상 물질을 처리 하는 bag filter공정을 모사하였다. 공정모사 결과 실제 산업폐기물 소각로의 처리효율과 일치 하였고 이를 바탕으로 동일한 공정 및 조건하에 소각로에 투입되는 폐기물의 조성비를 달리하여 공정 모사한 결과 오염물질의 배출량을 예측할 수 있었다. 이러한 오염물질 발생량 예측은 소각장의 폐기물 투입이 일정하지 않을 경우 조업 조건의 변경에 도움 뿐만아니라 공정개선의 효과적일 것으로 판단된다.

Chemical characteristics of organic sludges generated from chemical product manufacturing industry (화학제품제조업에서 배출되는 유기성슬러지의 화학적 특성)

  • 원소분석 결과 평균값은 "화합물 및 화학제품 제조업"의 경우 C 33.06wt%, H 4.34wt%, O 24.81wt%, N 5.18wt%, S 0.72wt%로 나타났으며, "코크스, 석유 정제품 및 핵연료 제조업"의 경우 C 36.58wt%, H 4.74wt%, O 26.79wt%, N 5.09wt%, S 0.49wt%로 나타났다. 열중량분석 결과, B사에서 배출되는 슬러지는 $700^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 그리고 F와 N 사에서 배출되는 슬러지는 $600^{\circ}C$ 정도의 온도에서도 연소가 가능할 것으로 판단된다. 연소테스트 결과, 산화반응과 동시에 열분해 반응이 일어나 고농도의 일산화탄소가 배출된다.

Performance Characteristics of Vehicle Air Conditioning System Using Internal Heat Exchanger with Inner Fin (휜 타입 내부열교환기 적용에 따른 차량용 냉방시스템 성능 특성)

  • Internal heat exchanger (IHX) apparatus using the temperature difference between high and low pressure lines in vehicle air conditioning system is a good method to enhance the cooling performance. In this study, we designed various double-pipe internal heat exchangers which have inner fins between the internal pipe and external pipe. We also measured the performance characteristic (pressure drop, cooling capacity, compressor work and coefficient of performance (COP)) of the modified internal heat exchangers that had the change of the fin height and the inside shape of the internal pipe. This experimental results indicated that the liner and serration type internal heat exchanger was the best cooling performance. In addition, the air conditioning system with the liner and serration type internal heat exchanger showed the improved performances of about 6.4% and 9.2%, respectively, for the cooling capacity and COP.

BIM System Development for Conceptual Design and Pre-Feasibility Study of Cable-Stayed Bridge (BIM 기반 사장교의 개념설계 및 예가분석 시스템 개발)

  • This paper has developed the system for supporting the approximate construction cost and the quantity estimation based on 3D model information in the pre-project planning phase of 3-span continuous cable-bridge with 2-pylons. First of all, we'd analyzed the design information (structural design report, blueprint and quantity) of the existing cable-stayed bridges and derived the design variables of cable-stayed bridges. We developed the BIM wizard that generates a cable-stayed bridge model parametrically based on derived design variables. The principle material quantities of cable-stayed bridge are calculated directly from 3-dimensional bridge model built by using the BIM wizard. Then, we can estimate the construction cost in relation to its quantities and unit cost of cable-stayed bridge. In a result, we have established the system that the construction cost can be estimated more specific than the conventional method (construction estimates per meter or square meter). We hereby will be able to review various alternatives as soon as possible in bidding process.

  • Recently as the interesting in geospatial technology increases, various research and education in that regard is proceeding actively. This study developed 'GEospatial Education Platform Service' for development and extension of domestic geospatial technology. GEEPS's objective are efficient utilization and environment composition about geospatial technology in educational institution and research institute. GEEPS has developed to integrate with benefits of open source software and developed Korea Land Spatialization R&D Program. In addition, we surveyed and analysed GEEPS's monitoring to seek for utilization and development planning of GEEPS and we came up with activation and advancement planning.
