Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) were conjugated with gallic acid (GA) at various concentrations between 30 and $150{\mu}M$ and characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-VIS). The anticancer activities of the gallic acid-stabilized gold nanoparticles against well-differentiated (M213) and moderately differentiated (M214) adenocarcinomas were then determined using a neutral red assay. The GA mechanism of action was evaluated using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy. Distinctive features of the FTIR spectra between the control and GA-treated cells were confirmed by principal component analysis (PCA). The surface plasmon resonance spectra of the GNPs had a maximum absorption at 520 nm, whereas GNPs-GA shifted the maximum absorption values. In an in vitro study, the complexed GNPs-GA had an increased ability to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells that was statistically significant (P<0.0001) in both M213 and M214 cells compared to GA alone, indicating that the anticancer activity of GA can be improved by conjugation with GNPs. Moreover, PCA revealed that exposure of the tested cells to GA resulted in significant changes in their cell membrane lipids and fatty acids, which may enhance the efficacy of this anticancer activity regarding apoptosis pathways.

Magnetic hyperthermia mediated by superparamagnetic particles is mainly based in sinusoidal waveforms as excitation signals. Temperature changes are conventionally explained by rotation of the particles in the surrounding medium. This is a hypothesis quite questionable since habitual experimental setups only produce changes in the magnetic module, not in the field lines trajectories. Theoretical results were tested by changing the waveform of the exciting signal in order to compare non-sinusoidal signals against sinusoidal signals. Experiments were done at different frequencies: 200 KHz, 400 KHz, 600 KHz, 800 KHz and 1 MHz. Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide samples (SPION), made of magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$) and suspended in water (100 mg/ml), were used. Magnetic field strength varies from $0.1{\pm}0.015KA/m$ to $0.6{\pm}0.015KA/m$. In this study was observed that the power loss depends on the applied frequency: for 1 to 2.5 RMS current the responses for each signal are part of the higher section of the exponential function, and for 3.5 to 8 RMS current the response is clearly the decrement exponential function's tale (under $1{\times}10^3LER/gr$).
We present the Yonsei Evolutionary Population Synthesis (YEPS) models for spectroscopic and photometric evolutions of simple and composite stellar populations. The models are based on the most up-to-date Yonsei-Yale stellar evolutionary tracks and BaSel 3.1 flux libraries, and provide integrated spectroscopic quantities of Lick/IDS system including high-order Balmer absorption-lines. Special care has been taken to incorporate the systematic variation of horizontal branch (HB) morphology as functions of metallicity, age, alpha-element mixture, and helium abundance of simple stellar populations. Our models for normal-helium stellar populations indicate that the realistic modeling of HB and alpha-element brings about 5 Gyr and 0.1 dex differences in age and metallicity estimations, respectively, compared to those without these effects. The HB effect does not depend on the specific choice of stellar libraries and alpha-element enhancements, and this effect is non-negligible even in the metal sensitive absorption indices, such as Mg2 and Mg b. Comparison of the models to observations reveals that the HB and alpha-element effects are critical in understanding otherwise inexplicable phenomena found in globular cluster systems in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies, including the observed bimodality of the line strengths of globular clusters in massive galaxies. In addition, we found that helium-enhanced stellar populations, which are the major sources of extreme HB stars, bring about increased FUV, NUV fluxes, and thus the model colors of those filters become extremely blue. Age dating based on the YEPS model with normal-helium stellar populations reveals that the evidence for 'downsizing' of elliptical galaxies is found not only in the local field but also in Coma cluster, and that the mean age of elliptical galaxies in Coma cluster is about 1.4 Gyr younger than the mean age of those in the local field. We also find that our models with helium-enhanced subpopulations can naturally reproduce the strong UV-upturns observed in giant elliptical galaxies assuming an age similar to that of old GCs in the Milky Way.
We have manufactured FMR spectrometer over wide range(2-35 GHz). In order to test FMR spectrometer, res¬onance absorption has been measured of the standard sample DPPH. The Q vaules of absorption line are 189-1096. As a result, We noticed that FMR spectrometer has been manufactured well. FMR studies of MgFez04 single crystal have been performed at S, J, K-band. The resonance lines have been observed for the each orientation of (100) plane at 300 K. The values of the magnetic anisotropy constant $K_{1}$ and the spectroscopic spli tting g valule have been calculated from the ferromagnetic resonance curve, $-2.9{\times}10^{4}erg/cm^{3}$, 2.02 at 23.89 GHz, $-2.2{\times}10^{4}erg/cm^{3}$, 1.89 at 5.3 GHz and $-2.8{\times}10^{4}erg/cm^{3}$, 2.01 at 3.6 GHz.
Ba-Ferrite single crystals were prepared and the magnetic and thermal properties were characterized by Mossbauer spectroscopy. The single crystal layer was cut in the c-axis and radiated to the surface by ${\gamma}$-rays for Mossbauer spectroscopy. We found out that the spin states in Fe ions were parallel to the ${\gamma}$-rays direction and the whole crystal bulk formed only one crystal with the same spin direction. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectra in single crystal have only 4 sets of 4 absorption lines in each Fe site when the ${\gamma}$-rays have the same radiation direction with the c-axis in the crystal, and there was no 2b-site spectrum. The zero absorption of 2b-site means that there was a fast diffusion motion in a double-well atomic potential at room temperature, in which bipyramidal Fe ions have the two minima at each side mirror plane.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the mechanism of moisture transfer depend on the thickness of the spruce(Picea sitchensis Carr.). Therefore, as the basic research of moisture transmission, the amount of moisture transmission and the moisture distribution in specimens and temperature of it's surfaces in vapor transmission process were investigated. The experiment was conducted in a steady state. and the moisture distribution was measured by knife cutting and weighing the specimens. The following conclusions were obtained ; 1. It can be found that distribution of moisture in the specimen can be approximated by two different straight lines intersecting at nine or ten percent moisture content. The amount of moisture movement defends on the gradient of moisture in the wood. 2. It is investigated that the wood surface moisture contents(MCs) are less for thinner specimens than for thick ones on the absorption side. On the other hand, the wood surface MCs are greater for thinner specimens than for thick ones on the desorption side. The main factor that affects the EMC of wood would be temperature when the relative humidity of atmosphere is constant. The specimen generate heat with the absorption and desorption process. In addition, the velocities of moisture transmission varied with the thicknesses of specimens. If the temperature of wood becomes greater, its MC decreases. Then the difference between surface MC and EMC of adsorption and desorption side becomes greater for thinner specimens. Therefore it is considered that the coefficients of moisture transfer decreases with the increases of the specimens' thicknesses.
Fifiy-five wheat samples were studied to obtain the basic information on the varietal differences of physicochemical characteristics and cookie baking potentiality in wheat breeding lines. Alkaline water retention capacity (AWRC) value had a correlation coefficient of $0.51^{**}$ with sedimentation value, of $0.45^{**}$ with protein content, and of $0.47^{**}$, with Pelshenke value. The highly significant correlation coefficient was obtained for cookie diameter vs. AWRC value $(-0.98^{**})$ and cooki diameter vs. protein content $(-0.46^{**})$. Farinograph absorption is highly correlated with AWRC value $(r=0.77^{**})$ and with cookie diameter $(r=-0.73^{**})$. Farinograph band width had a correlation coefficient of $-0.49^{**}$ with AWRC value, and of $0.44^{**}$ with cookie diameter.
Objectives: In this study, blood lead was analyzed using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAs) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). We tried to examine the difference and consistency of the analytical values and the applicability of the analytical method. Methods: We selected 57 people who agreed to participate in this study. After confirming the linearity of the calibration standard curves in GF-AAs and ICP-MS, the concentrations of lead in quality control material and samples were measured, and the degree of agreement was compared. Results: The detection limit of the ICP-MS was lower than that of GF-AAs. The coefficient of variation of reference materials was shown to be stable in the ICP-MS and GF-AAs. When the correspondence between the two equipments was verified by bias of the analysis values, a concordance was shown, and approximately 98% of the ideal reference lines were present within ${\pm}40%$ of the deflection. Conclusion: GF-AAs showed high sensitivity to single heavy metal analysis, but it took much time and showed higher detection limit than ICP-MS. Therefore, it would be considered necessary to switch to ICP-MS analysis method, considering that the level of lead exposure is gradually decreasing.
Several studies have reported the presence of sodium excess objects having neutral atomic absorption lines at $5895{\AA}$ (NaD) and $8190{\AA}$ that are deeper than expected based on stellar population models that match the stellar continuum. The origin of these lines is therefore hotly debated. van Dokkum & Conroy proposed that low-mass stars (0.3M) are more prevalent in massive early-type galaxies, which may lead to a strong NaI 8190 line strength. It is necessary to test this prediction, however, against other prominent optical line indices such as NaD, Mgb, and Fe5270, which can be measured with a significantly higher signal-to-noise ratio than NaI 8190. We identified a new sample of roughly one thousand NaD excess objects (NEOs; ~8% of galaxies in the sample) based on NaD line strength in the redshift range 0.00${\alpha}$-enhanced" ([${\alpha}/Fe$] ~ 0.3), "metal-rich" ([Z/H] ~ 0.3), and, especially, "Na-enhanced" ([Na/Fe] ~ 0.3).
A wide spectral coverage from near-infrared (NIR) to far-infrared (FIR) of AKARI both for imaging and spectroscopy enables us to efficiently study the emission from gas and dust in the interstellar medium (ISM). In particular, the Infrared Camera (IRC) onboard AKARI offers a unique opportunity to carry out sensitive spectroscopy in the NIR ($2-5{\mu}m$) for the first time from a spaceborn telescope. This spectral range contains a number of important dust bands and gas lines, such as the aromatic and aliphatic emission bands at 3.3 and $3.4-3.5{\mu}m$, $H_2O$ and $CO_2$ ices at 3.0 and $4.3{\mu}m$, CO, $H_2$, and H I gas emission lines. In this paper we concentrate on the aromatic and aliphatic emission and ice absorption features. The balance between dust supply and destruction suggests significant dust processing taking place as well as dust formation in the ISM. Detailed analysis of the aromatic and aliphatic bands of AKARI observations for a number of H ii regions and H ii region-like objects suggests processing of carbonaceous dust in the ISM. The ice formation process can also be studied with IRC NIR spectroscopy efficiently. In this review, dust processing in the ISM divulged by recent analysis of AKARI data is discussed.
