In this paper, a three-dimensional hydrogen absorption model is developed to precisely study hydrogen absorption reaction and resultant heat and mass transport phenomena in metal hydride hydrogen storage vessels. The 3D model is first experimentally validated against the temperature evolution data available in the literature. In addition to model validation, the detailed simulation results shows that at the initial absorption stage, the vessel temperature and H/M ratio distributions are uniform throughout the entire vessel, indicating that the hydrogen absorption is so efficient during the early hydriding process and thus local cooling effect is not influential. On the other hand, nonuniform distributions are predicted at the latter absorption stage, which is mainly due to different degrees of cooling between the vessel wall and core regions. This numerical study provides the fundamental understanding of detailed heat and mass transfer phenomena during hydrogen absorption process and further indicates that efficient design of storage vessel and cooling system is critical to achieve fast hydrogen charging and high hydrogen storage efficiency.
The Kalina cycle (KC) is considered as one of the most efficient systems for recovery of low grade heat. Recently, Kalina based power and cooling cogeneration cycles (KPCCCs) have been suggested and attracted much attention. This paper presents an energy and exergy analysis of a recently suggested KPCCC with flexible loads. The cycle consists of a KC (KCS-11) and an aqua-ammonia absorption refrigeration cycle. By adjusting the splitting ratios, the cycle can be operated with four modes of pure Kalina cycle, pure absorption cooling cycle, Kalina-cooling parallel cycle, and Kalina-cooling series cycle. The effects of system variables and the operating modes on the energetic and exergetic performances of the system are parametrically investigated. Results show that the system has great potential for efficient utilization of low-grade heat source by adjusting loads of power and cooling.
The present study has been directed at developing thermal models to investigate the dynamic behavior of a solar cooling system including an absorption chiller, solar collectors, a hot water storage tank, a fan coil unit, and the air-conditioned space. The operation of the system was simulated for 8 hours in two different operation modes. In the mode 1, the system operated without any capacity control.0 the mode 2, an auxiliary boiler supplied heat to the generator if hot water temperature became lower than a certain value. Moreover, the mass flow rate of hot water to the generator was controlled by comparing the instantaneous room air temperature with the design value. The variation of temperature and concentration in the system components and that of heat transfer rates in the system were obtained for both modes of operation. It was found that the room temperature was maintained near the desired value in the mode 2 by supplying auxiliary heat or controlling the mass flow rate of hot water, while the deviation of room temperature was quite great in the mode 2.
The optimal design of two stage evaporation & absorption system which is related to the large temperature difference system was investigated numerically in the absorption refrigeration system. The concentrations at inlet & oulet of absorber are 62.9% and 56.9%, but in two stage absorption system the values are 62.2% and 56.2%. Therefore strong solution & weak solution became diluted than the standard value. The amount of weak solution circulation can be reduced in absorption refrigeration system, and the sensible heat load is more reduced to enhance the COP of system. As UAR is increased, COP becomes larger, and this means the role of top section is more important than bottom section in two stage evaporation & absorption system. But the increase of COP becomes slower at 0.7 of UAR ratio. The performance of Type2 is higher than Type1 in COP with the flow direction of cooling waters. This phenomena is due to the active absorption of vapor -absorption & lower temp. cooling water is more effective. The pressure at bottom section becomes higher & that at top section becomes lower and therefore the circulation rate can be diminished more.

This paper presents demonstration study results derived through field testing of a solar assisted cooling and heating system for the library of a cultural center building located in Gwangju, Korea. The area of demanded cooling and heating for building was about 350m2. Solar hot water was delivered by means of a 200m2 array of evacuated tubular solar collector (ETSC) to drive a single-effect (LiBr/H2O) absorption chiller of 10RT nominal cooling capacity. From March in 2008 to February in 2009, demonstration test were performed for solar cooling and heating system. After experiments and analysis, this study found that solar thermal system was 84% for the solar hot water supply and 12% for space heating and 4% for space cooling.
This study focuses on the development and evaluation of the high efficiency absorption chiller-heater, which can be applied to a direct gas fired, double effect system with 40RT (508,000kJ) cooling capacity. The performance of the absorption chiller-heater is investigated through cycle simulation and experiment to obtain the system characteristics with the inlet tenperature of cooling, chilled water, and gas input flow rate. The efficiency of the different cycles has been studied and the simulation and experiment results show that higher coefficient of performance could be obtained for mixed flow cycle. The five percent difference was obtained from the comparison between experimental and cycle simulation results. As a result of this study, the optimum designs were determined based on the operating conditions and the coefficient of performance.

The use of gas absorption refrigeration machine has considerably increased because of the shortage of the electric power in the summer and the regulation of freon refrigerant. Gas absorption refrigeration machine consists of a condenser, a heat exchanger. supplying pipes, a radiator etc, This system is likely to be corroded by acid. dissolved oxygen and gases, Cavitation erosion-corrosion by flow velocity of cooling water may happen in absorption refrigeration machine. In these cases. erosion and corrosion occur simultaneously. Then, it makes a serious damage with synergy effect. Therefore, this paper was studied on the cavitation damage of cupronickel(70/30) tube for gas absorption refrigeration machine, In the $30^{\circ}C$ tap water, linear polarization test and anodic polarization test were carried out for copper(C1220T-OL) and cupronickel(70/30) tube. Also, cavitation erosion-corrosion behavior of cupronickel (70/30) tube was considered, The main results are as following: (1) In the linear test, the corrosion current density of cupronickel(70/30) is higher than that of copper. (2) The erosion-corrosion rate of cupronickel(70/30) displayed later tendency than that of copper by vibratory cavitation in cooling water. (3) In cooling water, the progress mechanism of erosion-corrosion rate of copper and cupronickel(70/30) follows a pattern of incubation, acceleration, attenuation and a steady state period.
Demand for the highly efficient and high performance urban energy supply system having been continuously increased according to the rise of quality of life and continuously increased energy cost all over the world. The district heating and cooling system is very effective way for energy saving, cost reduction, and demand side management of energy. There are several district cooling supply technologies such as chilled water direct transportation, installation of absorption type chiller in the user side, and desiccant cooling. This study investigates the advantage and technical problems of each district cooling technology. Also, it is necessary political and financial support system for the extension of district cooling system.
In this study, 3 cooling systems of apartment which are air-cooled air conditioner with indoor unit, water-cooled air conditioner with indoor unit and small capacity absorption chiller-heater with FCU have been evaluated by Multi-Criteria Decision Making Analysis. Weights of 7 selected factors which are economics, space, billing, constructability, human comfort, visibility and reliability are determined by expert group of 30 system designers and 30 construction engineers. Final weights were derived for 101 and 166 $m^2$ apartments. Analysis shows that small capacity absorption chiller-heater with FCU is the most favorable system for apartment cooling system.
