  • This on-board signaling system has been designed with a priority on safety. The system has been devised for both safety, and also the efficiency of train operation. The Importance of signaling system is gradually being recognized with the continuous rise of operating speed and transporting density. Until now, the adaptation of signaling system was totally dependent on foreign signaling companies, as it was difficult to be accessed by domestic technology. But, successful commercial operation of the ATC/ATO system, which is adopted in the development of Kwangju Line No.1, heralds the use of domestic technology, which will be the basis of all future domestic signaling systems.

Standalone Maritime Aids-To-Navigation AIS Mobile Station

  • Automatic Identification System (AIS) is a VHF radio broadcasting system where transmits packets of data via VHF data link. It enables vessels and coastal-based station that equipped with AIS equipment to send and receive useful information. This information can be help in situational awareness and provide a means to assist in collision avoidance. In addition, AIS can be use as Aid-To-Navigation, by providing the location and additional information on buoys and lights. Besides, it can also contain details information in meteorological status of a particular ship location. This paper presents the standalone AIS system that able to receive and report own ship location, meteorological data collection and broadcast safety related information if necessary. With the unique ship's MMSI number, all the information of that particular ship can be monitor by using AIS program written in C++ programming language.

Phytoremediation potential of indigenous Ghanaian grass and grass-like species grown on used motor oil contaminated soils

  • This study investigated the ability of Bothriochloa bladhii (Retz.) S.T. Blake (Poaceae), Cyperus ligularis L. (Cyperaceae), Commelina erecta L. (Commelinaceae), Mariscus umbellatus (Rottb.) Vahl (Cyperaceae), Fimbistylis miliacea L. (Cyperaceae) and Torulinium odoratum L. (Cyperaceae) to clean up various levels of used motor oil (UMO) contaminated soils. The plants were grown in 2 kg garden soils treated to 0%, 1%, 5% and 10% levels of UMO contamination. The plant growth parameters, chlorophyll contents and dry weight of test plants were measured. The phytoremediation ability of these test plants were assessed by measuring the uptake of hydrocarbons in terms of total hydrocarbon content (THC) as well as their percentage degradation values. There was significant (P < 0.05) reduction in leaf chlorophyll contents and dry weights of the test plant species planted in UMO contaminated soils. THC as well as the percentage uptake (or degradation) of hydrocarbons were both lowest in C. ligularis but highest in T. odoratum in all cases. The phytoremediation potential of test plants was highest in soils contaminated with 5% UMO. Based on the results of this study, all test plants with the exception of C. ligularis were potentially capable of undertaking phytoremediation. However, B. bladhii and T. odoratum proved most effective in the uptake and degradation of UMO.

Morphology, Pathogenicity and Molecular analysis of Alternaria Isolates from Solanaceous Crops (oral)

  • More than 30 isolates of Alternaria were obtained from various solanaceous crops in Korea. For all isolates, morphological characteristics of the conidia were determined and compared with those of representative isolates of A. solani and A. tomatophila. Pathogenicity test was performed to Potato, tomato, egg plant and red Pepper and molecular characteristics of them including the representative isolates were determined using sequence analyses of ITS rDNA and histone H3 gene, and URP-PCR analysis. Based on morphological characteristics, the isolates from the solanaceous crops were grouped as identical or very similar to either A. tomatophila(ATO), A. solani(ASO), and unidentified Altemaria sp.(ASP). Among the molecular markers used in this study, the URP-PCR analysis was found to be appropriate for taxonomic resolution of these species. Based on the conidial morphology, pathogenicity test and molecular characteristics, A. tomatophila(early blight of tomato) could be distinguished from A. solani(early blight of potato), and the Alternaria sp.(ASP) from potato, which was closely related to A. solani in conidial morphology, was considered as a new species.

산양삼 재배지의 기상특성 및 생육에 관한 연구 (Weather Characteristic and Growth of a Forest Ginseng Cultivation Site)

  • 산지에서 재배되는 산양삼의 생육특성을 알아보기 위하여 재배지 내에 $20{\times}20$ m 방형구를 설치하고 설치된 지역의 입지 및 토양 특성을 조사하였다. 입지특성에 관해서는 상층을 위주로 매목조사를 실시하였다. 임관울폐도는 균일하게 80%로 조절하고, 조사지내의 시험구는 미세기후를 측정하기 위한 Hobo를 설치하여 재배지의 기온, 토양내 온도변화 등을 측정하고 지역적 특성을 조사하였다. 시험구의 입지특성은 모든 조사구에서 다양하게 나타나고 있다. 또한 시험구내의 토양 특성은 우리나라의 전형적인 산림토양의 특성을 나타내고 있다. 특히 4월경 지상부가 출현하는 시기에는 $15^{\circ}C$이상의 적온이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 지중온도가 상승하여 $8^{\circ}C$에 도달하면, 산양삼의 정단부에서 출엽을 시작하며, 지중온도가 $18^{\circ}C$를 넘어서면 낙엽이 지기 시작한다. 묘삼 식재의 경우 초기 출아율이 높으나 3년이후 급격히 출아율이 감소하여 자연도태가 이루어지고, 종자 파종의 경우에는 초기 출아율이 묘삼식재보다는 낮으나 자연도태율이 묘삼식재보다 낮은 것으로 나타났다.

잉크젯 프린팅을 이용한 low-e $TiO_2$-silver 투명박막형성 (Fabrication of $TiO_2$-silver transparent thin films low-e coated on glass substrate by ink-jet printing)

  • Low-emissivity (low-e) coatings with visible transparency have attracted increased interest m reducing heat radiation loss through window panes from ecological and sustainable aspects. $TiO_2$-silver transparent thin films for low-e have good properties for UV and IR blocking as well as photocatalyst compared to that with commercial UV blocking films such as fluorine doped oxide (FTO), antimony doped tin oxide (ATO), etc. In this study, transparent $TiO_2$-silver thin films were prepared by successive ink-jet printing of commercial nano silver and $TiO_2$ sol. The $TiO_2$ sol, as ink for ink-jet printing, were synthesized by hydrothermal process in the autoclave externally pressurized with $N_2$ gas of 200 bar at $120^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs. The synthesized $TiO_2$ sols were all formed with brookite phase and their particle size was several to 30 nm. At first nano sized silver sol was coated on glass substrate, after that $TiO_2$ sol was coated by ink-jet printing. With increasing coating thickness of $TiO_2$-silver multilayer by repeated ink-jet coating, the absorbance of UV region (under 400nm) and IR region (over 700nm) also increase reasonably, compared to that with commercial UV blocking films.

철도신호시스템 중첩운영으로 인한 전자파장해현상 분석 및 대책 (Analysis of EMI Between Overlapped Railway Signalling Systems and Its Countermeasure)

  • ATS(Automatic Train Stop) system makes train stop when it runs over the speed limit and ensure the safe operation of train. Seoul Metro line 2 in Korea, which started its passenger service in 1982, has adopted ATS system for its signaling system. The ATS system has only a train stop function at the time of emergency, and Seoul Metro is planning to replaced them with ATC(Automatic Train Control)/ATO(Automatic Train Operation) system which can provide the dedicated speed control for headway reduction and automatic operation of train. Until all the ATS system is replaced with the new ATC system, both systems are to operate simultaneously at the same metro line. In this situation, ATS system sometimes reveals improper operation: train stops suddenly without any obstacles in front of it. These emergency stops cause interruption of passenger service, and abnormal abrasion of wheels and rail. This paper makes it clear that these interruptions are caused by EMI phenomena between ATS on-board device and ATC wayside device : Signal current flowing in AF track circuit of ATC is turn out to be a EMI source that prevent normal operation of the ATS on-board device. Although the two systems have different frequency-ranges (ATS system has frequency range between $78{\sim}130$[kHz] and ATC system has frequency range between $9.5{\sim}16.5$[kHz]), it turned out that EMI phenomena appears between the both systems. This is investigated by measuring the output signal from ATS on-board device passing over ATC wayside device. The FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) analysis of the signal reveals that AF track circuit signal is transmitted to the ATS on-board device and induce noise causing improper operation. The countermeasures to the EMI phenomena are examined in three ways; blocking EMI transmission, enforcement of EMS (Electromagnetic Susceptibility) of ATS on-board device, and blocking the EMI source. It is suggested that the practical solution be blocking EMI source temporarily, that is breaking AF track circuit signal when the trains with ATS on-board device pass over it. To this purpose, TODS(Train Occupation Detection System) is developed, and has made a success in preventing the EMI problem of Seoul Metro line 2.

자동이탈식 비상침선표지 개발을 위한 개념설계 연구 (The Conceptual Design of Auto Releasing Emergency Wreck Marking Buoys)

  • 항로표지란 해상교통의 안전을 도모하고 선박운항 능률을 향상시키기 위한 해양교통안전시설로 새로운 위험물(New Danger)은 측방표지, 방위표지, 고립장해표지 등을 이용하거나 비상침선표지(Emergency Wreck Marking Buoy)를 사용하여 적절하게 표시하여야 한다. 그러나, 침선표지의 경우 설치의 신속성, 정확성, 부표의 특성 등의 문제로 인해 실질적인 설치 운영상의 문제가 제기 되고 있으며, 선박침몰 사고의 경우 기상악화, 해역의 특성, 사고 위치의 확인이 어려워 신속한 신위험물표지(New Danger Mark) 설치가 어려운 실정이다. 이 연구는 항상 선박 상갑판에 부착된 해양안전설비 중 하나로 Maritime Buoyage System(MBS)에 근거한 자동이탈식 비상침선표지를 개발하였다. 자동이탈식 비상침선표지Auto Releasing Emergency Wreck Marking Buoy)는 총 3개의 세부기술(자동이탈, 자동릴체인, 자동구동등명기)로 구성되며, 선박 상갑판에 부착된 자동이탈식 비상침선표지가 선박의 좌초 전복 침몰 등 해양사고 발생 시 일정수압에 의해 자동으로 이탈(Auto Release) 후 자기 부상(Auto Buoyance)하여 사고 발생 지점에 신속하고 정확하게 설치된다. 이러한 자동이탈식 비상침선표지는 선박의 항해안전을 위협하는 장해물로부터 해당 해역에서의 2차 사고를 방지하고, 신속한 수색 및 구조가 이루어질 수 있도록 한다.

LL-26(M) 등부표의 해역별 동적안정성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Sea Areas Dynamic Stability of LL-26(M) Light Buoy)

  • 항로표지사고는 통항선박의 항행위험을 초래하고, 항로표지의 신뢰성을 저하시킬 수 있다. 해상에 가장 많이 설치·운영되고 있는 등부표는 바람, 조류, 파도 등 해양기상의 영향으로 인한 사고율이 가장 높다. 그러나 우리나라 등부표 설치해역별 해양기상조건이 다름에도 불구하고, 등부표의 동적안정성 계산에 있어 전 해역에 일류적인 극한조건만을 적용하고 있는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 등부표 중 해상에 가장 많이 설치되어 있는 LL-26(M) 등부표의 동적안정성을 분석하여, LL-26(M) 등부표의 안정적인 운영 방안을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해 등부표와 관련한 선행연구의 해역별 기상을 분석한 후, 해양기상에 의한 사고발생 횟수가 많은 해역별 대표 등부표에 적용하여 동적안정성(경사각)을 추정하였다. 연구결과 각 해역별 LL-26(M) 등부표의 경사각은 상이하였다. 즉, 바람에 의한 경사각은 10.329°~36.868°이고, 조류에 의한 경사각은 0.123°~18.834°이며, 파도에 의한 경사각은 4.777°~20.695°로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 LL-26(M) 등부표의 안정적 운영을 위한 해역별 설치기준 마련에 유용한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
