The purpose of this welding process of the exclusive welding-machine using welding torch-rotation type is to develop a mechanism which can solve the problem of twisting of welding wires and cables. The technique was developed by revising the torch position and smooth controlling of both the normal and reverse rotation. Some of the advantages of using the torch-rotation type apply to the work-rotation technique are the practical uses of increased work space and link work with the factory automation system. Do apply the welding process, I designed and made a special unit so called torch part in order to solve the problems of kinematical. And I made a control panel which can manipulate the progress of the entire process at the work shop. Even if it will be applied to another kind of axle casing's welding work, this process can be utilized if other sizes of the fixed pin and work part is produced and changed. The development of this exclusive welding-machine could reduce the manpower of skilled welding labor and increase productivity and better quality product in comparison to the handmade product.
A major concern on high-energy centrifugal pump is the potential for interaction of two-phase flow phenomena with mechanical response of the pumping elements. The other concern is the pressure pulsations created from trailing edge of the impeller blade and flow separation and recirculation at partial load in centrifugal pumps. These interactions generating between rotor and casing cause dynamic pulsation on pump and exciting pipeline vibration. The higher severity responses, the more lead to failure of pump and system components. Finally, it cause severe axial vibration of single stage pump due to the hydraulic instability in flow condition below BEP.
Gear rattle is a source of vibration and noise in automotive gearbox casing and generally occurs at or near system resonant frequencies. The neutral gear rattle of the gearbox. is affected by the stiffness and hysteresis torque in the clutch disk and drag torque determining balancing point of the clutch disk operating range. The experiment is carried out in the pre-damper type clutch and a manual transmission of a automobile equipped for inline four-sylinder four-cycle 1.5L MPI engine and the computer simulation is executed by 5th order Runge-Kutta method. The results of the simulation analysis and experimental studies show the dynamic behavior of clutch and a phenomenon of the neutral gear rattle with respect to drag torque and torsional characteristics of the clutch.
Large diameter bored pile was selected as the foundation type for Taipei 101. The pile construction method and specific construction procedures were determined based on the results of trial installation and pile load tests. The baseline for foundation design was established using the friction versus depth characteristics of each ground layer obtained from the pile load tests. As the ground profile and depth to the top of rock formation varied significantly on this site, the pile length, bearing capacity and settlement for single pile were analyzed using the information interpreted from adjacent boreholes. The post grouting at pile tip was mandatory for pile construction. Nevertheless, it was treated as a measure reducing the influence of construction uncertainties and providing extra safety for the foundation system.
Pump-turbine system is widely used by the hydropower industry for stabilizing the electrical grid in the vast growing economy of most developed countries. This study only investigates the Fluid-structure Interaction (FSI) analysis of the pump-turbine system at various operating conditions. The FSI analysis can show how reliable each component of the system is by providing the engineer with a better understanding of high stress and deformation points, which could reduce the lifespan of the pump-turbine. Pump-turbine components are categorized in two parts, pressurized static parts and movable stressed parts. The fixed parts include the spiral casing, top and bottom cover, stay vane and draft tube. The movable parts include guide vanes and impeller blades. Fine hexahedral numerical grids were used for CFD calculation and fine tetrahedral grids were used for structural analysis with imported load solution mapping greater than 90 %. The maximum equivalent stress are much smaller than the material yield stress, and the maximum equivalent stress showed an increasing tendency with the varying of operating conditions from partial to excessive at both modes. In addition, the total deformation of all the operating conditions showed a small magnitude, which have quite small influence on the structural stability. It can be conjectured that this system can be safely implemented.
This article aims to develop an algorithm that detects fire pump defects by analyzing the current signals of an induction motor, which are triggered by changes in the flow rate and pressure of multistage volute pumps that are used for fire services. The operational status of the pumps was categorized into three: first, normal operation; second, a defect that is caused by a change in the current value; and third, a defect occasioned by a change in current, pressure, and flow rate. When a fire pump was in normal operation, the motor's operating current was measured between 5.06 A and 6.9 A, the flow rate was estimated at 0-0.27 m3/min, and the pressure ranged from 0 to 0.47 MPa. In the event that a defect was caused by an abnormal current value in the motor, it was attributed to the pump's adherence. Furthermore, if there was no source of water, the defect was considered to have been induced by phase-loss operation, no-load operation, or run-stop operation, with the current value of each scenario being measured at > 52.8 A, < 4.13 A, > 45.15 A, and < 3.8 A, respectively, placing its overall range between 0 and 50 A. The sources of defects were detected based on an analysis of the flow rate, pressure, and current, which represent the following causes: air inflow into the casing, inadequate suction of water, and reverse-phase operation, respectively. Each cause entailed the following values: when air seeped into the casing, the pressure was measured at 0.24 MPa irrespective of changes in the flow rate; when there was inadequate suction of water, the pressure was recorded between 0 and 0.05 MPa despite changes in the flow rate; and when the power line's reverse-phase loss was the cause of the defect, the pressure was measured at 0.33 MPa for a flow rate of 0 L/min, and a higher flow rate decreased the pressure to nearly 0 MPa. The results of this study will enable engineers to develop a pump defect detection algorithm that is based on an analysis of current, and this algorithm will facilitate the execution of a program that will control a fire pump defect detection system.
The objective of this study was to perform failure analysis of an inlet pipe located in a governor valve of a steam turbine in a district heating system. During the operation, the temperature of the governor valve was increased to as high as ~500 ℃, which induced thermal expansion of the inlet pipe along both axial and radial directions. While the inlet pipe did not have contact with the valve seat, the side plane of the upside was constrained by the casing part, which led the inlet pipe to experience stress field in the form of fatigue and creep. The primary crack was initiated at about 30 mm below the top where the complex stress field was anticipated. These results suggest that the main failure mechanism is a combination of thermal fatigue and creep during the operation supported by the observation of apparent beach marks on the fracture surface and pores near the cracks, respectively.

This paper presents the rotordynamic performance measurement of oil-free turbocharger (TC) supported on gas foil bearings (GFBs) for 2 liter class diesel vehicles and comparison to floating ring bearings (FRBs). Oil-free TC was designed and developed via the rotordynamic analyses using dynamic force coefficients from GFB analyses. The rotordynamics and performance of the oil-free TC was measured up to 85 krpm while being driven by a diesel vehicle engine, and compared to a commercial oil-lubricated TC supported on FRBs. The test results showed that the GFBs increased the rotor speed by ~ 20% at engine speeds of 1,500 rpm and 1,750 rpm, yielding the reduction of turbine input energy by more than 400 W. Incidentally, an external shock test on the oil-free TC casing was conducted at the rotor speed of 60 krpm, and showed a good capability of vibration damping due to the well-known dry friction mechanism of the GFBs.
In this paper, the air flow induced by the rotating flat disk is numerically investigated in a hope to better understand the air flow structures inside the wax spin coater for a silicon wafer polishing station. Due to the complex inner geometry of actual spin coater such as the casing around the rotating ceramic block and servo motor, recirculation of air flow is inevitably found on the coating target if the internal space of spin coater is closed at the bottom and it could be the possible source of contamination on the wax coating. By numerical flow simulation, we found that it is necessary to install the air vent at the bottom and to apply the sufficient air suction in order to control the path of air flow and to eliminate the air recirculation zone above the spinning surface of coating target.
Ejector system is a device to transport a low-pressure secondary flow by using a high-pressure primary flow. Ejector system is, in general, composed of a primary nozzle, a mixing section, a casing part for suction of secondary flow and a diffuser. It can induce the secondary flow or affect the secondary chamber pressure by both shear stress and pressure drop which are generated in the primary jet boundary. Ejector system is simple in construction and has no moving parts, so it can not only compress and transport a massive capacity of fluid without trouble, but also has little need for maintenance. Ejectors are widely used in a range of applications such as a turbine-based combined-cycle propulsion system and a high altitude test facility for rocket engine, pressure recovery system, desalination plant and ejector ramjet etc. The primary interest of this study is to set up an applicable model and operating conditions for an ejector in the condition of sonic and subsonic, which can be extended to the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Experimental and theoretical investigation on the sonic and subsonic ejectors with a converging-diverging diffuser was carried out. Optimization technique and numerical simulation was adopted for an optimal geometry design and satisfying the required performance at design point of ejector for hydrogen recirculation. Also, some sonic and subsonic ejectors with the function of changing nozzle position were manufactured precisely and tested for the comparison with the calculation results.
