The developement of a HLW disposal canister is under way in KAERI using Cold Spray Coating technique. To estimate corrosion behavior of a cold sprayed copper, a creivice corrosion test was conducted at Southwest Research Institute(SWRI) in the United State. For the measurement of repassivation potential needed for crevice corrosion, three methods such as (1) ASTM G61-86 : Cyclic Potentiodynamic Polarization Measurements, (2) Potentiodynamic Polarization plus intermediate Potentiostatic Hold method, and (3) ASTM G192-08 (THE method) : Potentiodynamic- Galvanostatic-Potentiostatic Method, were introduced in this report. In the crevice corrosion test, the occurrence of corrosion at crevice area was optically determined and the repassivation potentials were checked for three kind of copper specimens in a simulated KURT underground water, using a crevice former dictated in ASTM G61-86. The applied electrochemical test techniques were cyclic polarization, potentiostatic polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. As a result of crevice corrosion tests, every copper specimens including cold sprayed one did not show any corrosion figure on crevice areas. And the open-cell voltage, at which corrosion reaction initiates, was influenced by the purity of copper, but not their manufacturing method in this experiment. Therefore, it was convinced that there is no crevice corrosion for the cold sprayed copper in KURT underground environment.
A proposed topology method is introduced to measure the air content of fresh cement paste and hardened concrete. The method takes advantage of chromatographic analysis in void areas that are highlighted using different color schemes and later calculated using built-in computer software. The air content measured by the topology method is compared with results obtained from the conventional ASTM methods. It is concluded that the proposed method is reliable, and costs less and is easier to operate compared with the ASTM methods. In addition, 3 dimensional pore models can be created using image post-processing techniques. The proposed method helps researchers in understanding the formation and existence of concrete pores. This paper reports a detailed test program demonstrating the standard operating procedure used for the proposed method and presents a comparison of results between the proposed method and conventional ASTM Specifications. It is also concluded that the air content increases with increasing size of pores and increasing percentage of coarse aggregates.
Methods for determination of the crack opening stress intensity factor ($K_{op}$) and for estimation of the effective stress intensity factor range ($\Delta{K}_{eff}$) are evaluated for crack growth test data of aluminum alloys. Three methods of determining $K_{op}$, visual measurement, ASTM offset compliance method, and the neural network method proposed by Kang and Song, and three methods of estimating $\Delta{K}_{eff}$, conventional, the 2/PIO and 2/PI methods proposed by Donald and Paris, are compared in a quantitative manner by using evaluation criteria. For all $K_{op}$ determination methods discussed, the 2/PI method of estimating $\Delta{K}_{eff}$ provides good results. The neural network method of determining $K_{op}$ provides good correlation of crack growth data. It is recommended to use 2/PI estimation with the neural $K_{op}$ determination method. The ASTM offset method used in conjunction with 2/PI estimation shows a possibility of successful application. It is desired to improve the ASTM method.

The method used to test lightweight aggregate concrete for its resistance to freezing and thawing is different in each country. In Korea, the method of KS F 2456 on normal concrete is adopted for lightweight aggregate concrete, while the testing method of ASTM C 330 lightweight aggregates for structural concrete is used in the majority of overseas countries. In this study, we identified differences between KS F 2456 and ASTM C 330 in terms of the testing method for freezing and thawing resistance, and we studied the influence of this on the freezing and thawing resistance of lightweight aggregate concrete. The results of this study were as follows: Blocked lightweight aggregates had a slight collapse of shape and lost weight by repeated freezing and thawing, but unblocked lightweight aggregates were badly collapsed. And while the freezing and thawing resistance tests of normal concrete showed similar results despite the difference in the KS and ASTM testing method, the results for lightweight aggregate concrete were very different. So the KS test method shows evaluation results that are much lower than the ASTM test method.
The purpose of this research is to review testing principle, testing design and experimental results of the four dynamic moisture movement testers. The research analyzes Moisture Manager Tester (MMT), Alambeta Instrument, Dynamic Surface Moisture Movement Tester, and Gravimetric Absorbent Testing Method based on American Society for Testing and Material (ASTM) E 96 which is an international standard testing method. Although many of researches use ASTM E 96 to measure moisture movement on a fabric, it has several weaknesses, such as long experimental time and a physical change of sample by a holder of the frame. Hence, lots of researchers have studied and developed the new measurement systems measuring moisture management on a fabric or garment and ultimately mimic heat energy and perspiration created by the human body. These moisture management systems use a variety of parameters, such as electricity, color, and sensor to measure their movement in the fabric. Through comparison with the existing tester (ASTM E 96), the research recognizes the strength and weakness in the dynamic moisture movement testers.

Air void systems in hardened concrete has an important influence on concrete durability such as freeze-thaw resistance, water permeability, surface scaling resistance. Linear traverse method and point count method described at ASTM is the routine analysis of the air void system that have been widely used to estimate the spacing factor in hardened concrete. Recently, many concretes often have a spacing factor higher than the generally accepted $200-250{\mu}m$ limit for the usual range of air contents. This study is proposed to estimate the matrix spacing factor by calculation of simplicity. The matrix spacing factor needs two parameters that are air content and numbers of air voids in the hardened concrete. Those are obtained from the standard air-void system analysis of the ASTM C 457. The equation is valid for all values of paste-to-air ratio because the estimation of paste content is unnecessary at the using ASTM C 457. The matrix spacing factor yields a similar estimate of the standard spacing factor.

Standard test method for bulk electrical conductivity (ASTM C1760) provides a rapid indication of the concrete's resistance to the penetration of chloride ions by diffusion. In this paper a new approach for assessing the bulk electrical conductivity of saturated specimens of hardened concrete is presented. The test involves saturating concrete specimens with a 5 M NaCl solution before measuring the conductivity of the samples. By saturating specimens with a highly conductive solution, they showed virtually the same pore solution conductivity. Different concrete samples yield different conductivity primarily due to differences in their pore structure. The feasibility of the method has been demonstrated by testing different concrete mixtures consisting ordinary and blended cement of silica fume (SF) and calcined perlite powder (CPP). Two standard test methods of RCPT (ASTM C1202) and Bulk Conductivity (ASTM C1760) were also applied to all of the samples. The results show that for concretes containing SF and CPP, the proposed method is less sensitive towards the variations in the pore solution conductivity in comparison with RCPT and Bulk Conductivity tests. It seems that this method is suitable for the assessment of the performance and durability of different concretes containing supplementary cementitious materials.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the J-R curve characteristics for the 5083 aluminum alloy weldment by the load ratio analysis. The results of the load ratio analysis are compared with those of the J-R curve which are obtained by the ASTM unloading compliance method. The crack length calculated by the load ratio analysis is agrees well with the measured final crack length. The slope of the exponential J-R curve estimated by the load ratio analysis is slightly smaller than that by the ASTM unloading compliance method. The exponential correlation of the J-R curve for the 5083 aluminum alloy base metal by the load ratio analysis is J = 93.88 ${\Delta}{\alpha}^{0.375}$. That for the weld metal and HAZ is J = 69.87 ${\Delta}{\alpha}^{0.389}$ and J = 70.59 ${\Delta}{\alpha}^{0.359}$ respectively. The J-R curve obtained by the ASTM unloading compliance method is overpredicted and should be offsetted due to the initial negative crack. On the other hand, the load ratio analysis method can evaluate the J-R curve by only load displacement curve without particular crack measurement equipment.
An ultrasonic test method, as a nondestructive test is applied to ensure the clad interface quality assessment. According to the reference codes and standards, not only korea Industrial Standard(KS) but also American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard, ultrasonic examination procedures use the pulse-echo, A-scan, back reflection signal drop method and/or side drilled reference hole used to establish the acceptance criteria of clad material test. But the variety of bonding materials and sizes makes it difficult to produce the reference blocks, or thus the criteria. In order to overcome these practical difficulties, new ultrasonic testing criterion is suggested. In this new method, the theoretical interface reflection signal amplitude level is calculated and suggested as an acceptance criteria with the back reflection signal set to 100% FSH(Full Screen Height) which is based on acoustic impedance mismatch at the clad interface for the explosive clad ultrasonic inspection. Applicability of suggested criterion, for the explosive clad Fe-Naval Brass with different bonding quality is confirmed to the pre-existed KS and ASTM specifications and verified by using SEM (Seanning Electron Microscope) micrograph. The results obtained by the suggested method is more conservative than the results according to the KS B 0234 and ASTM A 578 specifications The suggested method could be applicable to any other combination of explosive clad ultrasonic inspection.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the validity examination of the J-R curve characteristics for the nuclear reactor pressure vessel steels and Al alloys by the load ratio analysis. The results of the load ratio analysis are compared with those of the J-R curve which are obtained by the ASTM unloading compliance method. The crack length calculated by the load ratio analysis is agree well with the measured final crack length. The slope of the exponential J-R curve estimated by the load ratio analysis is slightly smaller than that by the ASTM unloading compliance method. The J-R curve obtained by the ASTM unloading compliance method is over-predicted and should be offsetted due to the initial negative crack. On the other hand, the load ratio analysis method can evaluate the J-R curve by only load-displacement curve without particular crack measurement equipment.
