Design of Object-based Information System Prototype

  • Researchers who use science and technology information were found to ask an information service in which they can excerpt the contents they needed, rather than using the information at article level. In this study, we micronized the contents of scholarly articles into text, image, and table and then constructed a micro-content DB to design a new information system prototype based on this micro-content. After designing the prototype, we performed usability test for this prototype so as to confirm the usefulness of the system prototype. We expect that the outcome of this study will fulfill the segmented and diversified information need of researchers.

  • This paper was studied to present a model for the application of AHP to the selection of airliners. For this study, a questionnaire was developed in respect to the criteria of airliner and given to 80 airline pilots and 30 maintenances in airlines to ask their opinions about the candidates for the middle-range airliners. The AHP software developed by Korean Advanced Institute of Science Technology (KAIST) was used to process the data. The result was analyzed by the criteria of selecting airliners and the several alternatives for the middle-range airliners.

  • In this paper, we propose Low-Power Receiver circuits for a wireless communication system using ASK signal. Their structures are suitable for low supply current. The proposed circuits are designed and simulated by Spectre using 0.8m CMOS process parameters, and operate with supply current below 1.5${\mu}\textrm{A}$.

Physicochemical Properties of Agarooligosaccharides for Using as Food Stuffs (식품소재로서의 한천올리고당의 이화학적 특성)

  • A marine bacterium Bacillus cereus ASK202 showing a high agar degrading activity, was incubated in the culture medium containing agar. After incubation for 30 hr, the productivity of agarase in the culture broth reached to maximum value (160.8 units/L). As the results of TLC and HPLC analysis, agarooligosaccharides (degrees of polymerization 2, 4 and 6) were produced from the hydrolysis of agar by using the crude agarase. Physical and chemical properties of agarooligosaccharides were compared with the manufactured products of other oligosaccharides (fructooligosaccharide; isomaltooligosaccharide; maltotetraoligosaccharide) and agarooligosaccharides showed higher viscosity, higher contents of oligosaccharides, higher stability at low pH's and higher temperatures, and lower sweetness than other oligosaccharides.

Active Learning on Sparse Graph for Image Annotation

  • Due to the semantic gap issue, the performance of automatic image annotation is still far from satisfactory. Active learning approaches provide a possible solution to cope with this problem by selecting most effective samples to ask users to label for training. One of the key research points in active learning is how to select the most effective samples. In this paper, we propose a novel active learning approach based on sparse graph. Comparing with the existing active learning approaches, the proposed method selects the samples based on two criteria: uncertainty and representativeness. The representativeness indicates the contribution of a sample's label propagating to the other samples, while the existing approaches did not take the representativeness into consideration. Extensive experiments show that bringing the representativeness criterion into the sample selection process can significantly improve the active learning effectiveness.

  • In the recent industry, unmanned systems are expected to continue to spread throughout the economy. Especially in case of cosmetics, Users do not buy it right away. They look around, test it thoroughly, check the reviews, and decide on the purchase. Therefore, unmanned system using kiosk is more popular than face - to - face service of clerks. In this study, the persona analysis was completed based on the results obtained from the questionnaires and in - depth interviews. After sorting out the needs of the users, we applied them to the kiosk UI design of "Lalavela". The purpose of this study is to propose a kiosk UI design that helps many users who want to know information about the product though they are reluctant to ask directly to the clerk.

A Study on the Detection Algorithm of an Advanced Ultrasonic Signal for Hydro-acoustic Releaser

  • Methods used for exploring marine resources and spaces include positioning a probe under water and then recalling it after a specified time. Hydro-acoustic Releasers are commonly used for positioning and retrieving of such exploration equipment. The most important factor in this kind of system is the reliability for recalling the instruments. The frequently used ultrasonic signal detection method can detect ultrasonic signals using a fixed comparator, but because of increased rates of errors due to outside interferences, information is repetitively acquired. This study presents an effective ultrasonic signal detection algorithm using the characteristics of a resonance and adaptive comparator Combined with the FSK+ASK modulator. As a result, approximately 8.8% of ultrasonic wave communication errors caused by background noise and transmission losses were reduced for effectively detecting ultrasonic waves. Furthermore, the resonance circuit's quality factor was enhanced (Q = 120 to 160). As such, the bias voltage of the transistor (Vb= 3.3 to 6.8V) was increased thereby enhancing the frequency's selectivity.

Capabilities of information technology to overcome the time and space limitations enables efficient storage and processing of a large volume of data shared by many users in geographically dispersed areas. As the users ask for more useful information services, it is necessary to develop information services tp meet the needs of users. Enhancing information services is also necessary to cope actively with the pressures to open the information service is also necessary to cope actively with the pressures to open the information and telecommunications market as the level of Korean information services industry is still in its infancy. Value Added Network(VAN) services have a tremendous growth potential and its economic and social impact would be great as the information society matures. This study suggests a direction for the development of value added and new-media services based on the survey of individual and business users of information services.

  • The relationship between selenium and signal molecules is not well elucidated yet. It was found that physiological concentration of selenite, less than 3 $\mu$M, reduced ASKl activity and induced of PI3-Kinase/Akt pathways in HT1080 cells. Duration of these signal molecules by selenite was much longer than that by growth factors and other stresses. The longer duration time of these signal molecules may be important to maintain normal functions against stresses.(omitted)
