An Investigation on the Mechanical Behaviors of Lubricant and Coating to Improve the Drawability of Non-heat Treated Steels (열처리 생략강의 인발특성 향상을 위한 윤활제와 피막제의 기계적 거동 고찰)

  • In this research, we developed a pilot wire-drawing machine as well as wire end-pointing roller. Using these machines, we performed a pilot wire-drawing test at different coating material and lubricant when the reduction ratio is 10 %. To inversely compute the friction coefficient between the coating layer of wire and the surface of die for a specific lubricant, we carried out a series of three dimensional finite element analysis. Results show that the drawing force is varied with the coating material of wire at the same reduction ratio and lubricant. It is noted that the frictional coefficient in drawing is dependent on the coupled property of coating material and lubricant, indicating the best coating material for a given lubricant.

  • To cope with increasing of electric power demand in metropolitan areas, large capacity underground power cables are needed. Under such situations, our company has developed 345kV XLPE insulated cable and accessories. As the final step of development of the 345kV XLPE cable and accessories, the pre-qualification test was carried out on the test line composed of cables, pre-fabricated joints, EB-Gs and EB-As. This paper sums up the pre-qualification test conditions and the results.

  • From the experimental study of wire-cut Electric Discharge Machining of alloyed tool steel and tungsten carbide, the characteristics such as cutting speed, surface roughness has been observed and evaluated for various conditions. Cutting speed is improved as peak discharge current and wire tension become increased, and gap voltage and spark cycle decreased. Surface roughness can be better when peak discharge current and gap voltage become smaller, or spark cycle and wire tension become larger. Secondary cut is recommended to obtain high precision and good quality.

  • All components such as structure, engine, electrical equipment, wire etc. should have certified qualities and functions for safe flight. The wire like a blood vessel of man is connected with most components and supply a electrical signal or power to them and only certified wire through a lot of tests such as rating, flame resistance, self-extinguishing, protection of EMI etc. must be used in aircraft. In other words, the wire should observe many certification requirements because it is one of the most important components.

  • In this study the mechanical properties of various wire mesh reinforcing porous concrete mixtures are investigated. A properly designed porous concrete pavements provides a durable riding surface. It also eliminates puddles and standing water, resulting in improved skid resistance. The most popular application is that of light-traffic volume roadways such as parking lots, resident roads, driveways, and sidewalks. Flexural strength and toughness index are examined for wire mesh reinforcing porous concrete. Type of Wire mesh is divided into three cases, A type, B type and C type. It shows A type is most excellent shape of destruction of slab specimen is similar to that of flexural specimen. The aim of this paper is to present the results of a pilot study undertaken to examine the extent to which wire mesh reinforced porous concrete can be used as a continuous paving materials.

  • Fatigue life of catenary wires in various environments is reduced when stress is concentrated on some points, which are often found in corroded areas by surrounding pollutants. Therefore, the fatigue test were performed in order to investigate the effect of the surface corrosion on the destructive behavior in service environment and accelerated corrosion environment as well as th examine the corrosive property and mechanism of the catenary wires. In the fatigue test of the messenger stranded wire, the corrosion degraded materials showed 35~50% of fatigue life at a same stress amplitude compared to original material. Because the catenary wires have variable load by the interaction of periodic contacts with pantographs the maximum stresses of trolley wire and messenger wire calculated by simulation at the messenger wire during operation was estimated thought the corrosion behavior interpretation of variable stress and fatigue test.

  • The sliding wear characteristics of carbon steel castings were Investigated using a ball on disk type tester. The experiment was conducted using high carbon steel wire rods as ball material and carbon steel castings as disk material and different operating conditions, at room temperature under a lubrication and dry conditions. The results showed that the carbon steel castings appeared average wear volume Is lowed after annealing under a lubrication conditions and wear curve linear Increased.   • In the tungsten industry as light source material, tungsten filament which used as light source material ould form after molybdenum wire which used as the center supporter for coil shape tungsten wire was removed. The purpose of this study is to develop new process named "hydrogen peroxide dissolution method". This process uses hydrogen peroxide, which is harmless to human body and oxidize molybdenum wire selectively. The results were as follows:1. The dissolution of molybdenum wire was proportion to a solution and contact surface of molybdenum wire. 2. The optimum $H_2O_2/H_2O$ were 1:0.5 ~ 1:1.75. 3. The time of dissolution was 65~70 minutes, and the PCS of sample were 20,800 PCS(1,820g). 4. Total cost($H_2O_2$, catalyst) was ₩19,088.

  • In this paper, analysis, design, control and prototype construction of a wearable wire-driven haptic interface called HapticPen is discussed. This device can be considered as a wire driven parallel mechanism which three wires are attached to a pen-tip. Wire tensions are provided utilizing three DC servo motors which are attached to a solid frame on the user's body. This device is designed as input as well as output device for a wearable PC. User can write letters or figures on a virtual plate in space. Pen-tip trajectory in space is calculated using motor encoders and force feedback resulting from contact between pen and virtual plate is provided for constraining the pen-tip motion onto the virtual plane that can be easily setup by arbitrary non-collinear three points in space. In this paper kinematic model, workspace analysis, application analysis, control and prototype construction of this device are presented. Preliminary experiments on handwriting in space show feasibility of the proposed device in wearable environments.

  • The use of the shape memory alloy, Nitinol wire, is investigated as an actuator for enhancing the damping in structural vibration systems. The first-order mathematical model of the Nitinol wire is obtained from the experimental data for an actuator. Finite element method is utilized for the strain gage sensor model, which is installed at the root of cantilever beam. A simple system, cantilever beam, is built as a flexible structural system to implement a control law with the Nitinol wire actuator. The system model including sensor and actuator is derived, which agrees with the experimental results. The actuator dynamics is augmented with the system so as to design PI controller and the one of robust controllers, LQG/LTR controller, and the control laws are implemented experimentally. The experimental study shows the feasibility of utilizing the Nitinol wire as an actuator for the purpose of vibration control.
