  • Music emotion is an important component in the field of music information retrieval and computational musicology. This paper proposes an approach for automatic emotion classification, based on rough set (RS) theory. In the proposed approach, four different sets of music features are extracted, representing dynamics, rhythm, spectral, and harmony. From the features, five different statistical parameters are considered as attributes, including up to the $4^{th}$ order central moments of each feature, and covariance components of mutual ones. The large number of attributes is controlled by RS-based approach, in which superfluous features are removed, to obtain indispensable ones. In addition, RS-based approach makes it possible to visualize which attributes play a significant role in the generated rules, and also determine the strength of each rule for classification. The experiments have been performed to find out which audio features and which of the different statistical parameters derived from them are important for emotion classification. Also, the resulting indispensable attributes and the usefulness of covariance components have been discussed. The overall classification accuracy with all statistical parameters has recorded comparatively better than currently existing methods on a pair of datasets.

  • The recommender system (RS) has emerged as a solution to overcome the constraints of excessive information provision and to maximize profit and reputation for information providers. Although the RS can be implemented with various approaches, there is no study on how to appropriately utilize the information generated from the review of the recommended object. We propose a method to improve the performance of RS by using cluster information generated from online review. We implemented the proposed method and experimented with real data, and confirmed that the performance is significantly improved compared to the existing approaches.

  • This study was conducted to examine the role of the transcription factors (TFs) (RsMYB1 and mPAP1+B-Peru) in the regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis in the ornamental torenia cv. Kauai rose. In this study, we could produce several putative transgenic lines overexpressing the TFs via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, and presence of the TFs in the randomly selected five transgenic lines was confirmed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). According to results of reverse transcription-PCR analysis (RT-PCR), the expression of the TFs in all transgenic lines and of the anthocyanin structural genes (CHS, F3H, DFR, and ANS) in all transgenic lines and WT plants were distinctly detectable. However, transcript levels of the structural genes expressed in the transgenic lines overexpressing TFs were significantly higher than those expressed in WT plants. Therefore, it is suggested that anthocyanin content in flowers of the transgenic torenia would be significantly higher than that in flowers of WT plants. Moreover, these results indicate that the TFs (RsMYB1 and mPAP1+B-Peru) could be exploited as potential anthocyanin regulatory TFs to enhance anthocyanin content in the other horticultural plants.

  • A series of laboratory tests (physical and mechanical index and engineering design) were conducted on undisturbed granite soils of CW and RS weathering grades in Korea. From these testes it can be concluded that most of physical and mechanical index values are very sensitive to change in weathering grade from CW to RS. Engineering design tests indicate that the unconfined compressive strength and the shear strength parameters are significantly reduced and that the soil becomes ductile and plastic with increasing weathering and saturation. It was found that weathered granite soils have the special characteristics when water saturated: (i) they significantly lose their shear strength(especially cohesion) and unconfined compressive strength, (ii) they are fragile and their grains break down in water as observed in grain size analysis.

  • In the present study, an efficient mercury-tolerant bacterial strain (RS-5) was isolated from heavy-metalcontaminated industrial effluent. Under shake flask conditions, 97% of the supplemented mercuric chloride was sequestered by the biomass of RS-5 grown in a tryptone soy broth. The sequestered mercuric ions were transformed inside the bacterial cells, as an XRD analysis of the biomass confirmed the formation of mercurous chloride, which is only feasible following the reaction of the elemental mercury and the residual mercuric chloride present within the cells. Besides the sequestration and intracellular transformation, a significant fraction of the mercury (63%) was also volatilized. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of RS-5 revealed its phylogenetic relationship with the family Bacillaceae, and a 98% homology with Lysinibacillus fusiformis, a Gram-positive bacterium with swollen sporangia. This is the first observation of the sequestration and volatilization of mercuric ions by Lysinibacillus sp.

  • Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major health problem worldwide. TB depends not only on the characteristics of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) but also on the genetic susceptibility of infected patients. Recent studies have suggested that FOXO3 play an important role in the human immune associated disorder, such as TB. It was previously reported that FOXO3 genetic variants associated with a risk of TB in Chinese population. In this study, we confirm whether the genetic polymorphism of the FOXO3 gene, which was previously in Chinese, is reproduced in Korean population. Of the 154 SNPs were extracted from the FOXO3 gene, reproducibility analysis of the four SNPs performed in the previous study showed that there was a statistically significant correlation in the three SNPs (rs4946935, rs1536057, rs3800228). This study suggests that polymorphism of the FOXO3 gene in Koreans may affect the onset of tuberculosis and could be used to treat and prevent tuberculosis.

  • In this paper we proposed an object tracking system using PTZ camera. Once the target object is detected, the CAMshift tracking algorithm focuses it in realtime mode as the camera is moving accordingly. Since the CAMShift algorithm takes into account the object size, zoom related tracking is possible. We used the spherical coordinate to gain pan and tilt position. The position information is used to set the center of target object in the middle of the image by using the PTZ protocol and RS-485 interface. Our system showed excellent experimental results in various environments.

  • Currently, the optimal resuscitation fluid remains debatable. Therefore, in the present study, we designed a trometamol-balanced solution (TBS) for use as a resuscitation fluid for hemorrhagic shock. Hemorrhagic shock was induced in 18 male Wistar-Kyoto rats, which were assigned to normal saline (NS), Ringer's solution (RS), and TBS groups. During the hemorrhagic state, their hemodynamic parameters were recorded using an Abbott i-STAT analyzer with the CG4+ cartridge (for pH, pressure of carbon dioxide, pressure of oxygen, total carbon dioxide, bicarbonate, base excess, oxygen saturation, and lactate), the CG6+ cartridge (for sodium, potassium, chloride, blood glucose, blood urea nitrogen, hematocrit, and hemoglobin), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits (calcium, magnesium, creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, bilirubin, and albumin). Similar trends were found for the parameters of biochemistries, electrolytes, and blood gas, and they revealed no significant changes after blood withdrawal-induced hemorrhagic shock. However, the TBS group showed more effective ability to correct metabolic acidosis than the NS and RS groups. TBS was a feasible and safe resuscitation solution in this study and may be an alternative to NS and RS for resuscitation in hemorrhagic shock patients without liver damage.

  • Male weanling Sprague Dawley rats were used to evaluate the effect of dietary rice starch with different particle size on growth performance, intestinal function and proliferation. There were two dietary treatment: rice starch (RS), ultra finely pulverized rice starch with less than $15{\mu}m$ size (PRS). They were eight rats per treatment. In vitro digestibility, body weight change and organs weight were evaluated. Serum GPT, GOT and blood urea nitrogen were analyzed. Transit time, short chain fatty acid contents of cecum, and cell proliferation of duodenum and jejunum were measured. In vitro digestibility of PRS was higher than that of RS. Rats fed ultra finely pulverized rice starch for 3 weeks grew faster than rats fed rice starch. PRS group has higher weights of liver, kidney, spleen and epididymal fat pad, perhaps as a result of increased digestibility. GPT and GOT were not different between two groups. Blood urea nitrogen was higher in RS-fed rats than that of PRS-fed rats. Feeding ultra finely pulverized rice starch resulted in a proliferation of duodenum significantly. These results suggest that ultra finely pulverized rice starch increases the growth performance in weanling animals with reduced number of cells in the cell cycle of small intestine.
