  • We propose an ART2 neural network-based fault diagnosis method to diagnose of sensor in the gas monitoring system. In the proposed method, using thermal modulation of operating temperature of sensor, the signal patterns are extracted from the voltage of load resistance. Also, fault classifier by ART2 NN (adaptive resonance theory 2 neural network) with uneven vigilance parameters is used for fault isolation. The performances of the proposed fault diagnosis method are shown by simulation results using real data obtained from the gas monitoring system.

  • 본 논문에서는 자율신경망 중 ART2(Adaptive Resonance Theory 2)를 이용하여 지문의 매칭알고리즘에 적용하였다.

  • In this paper, we propose a fault diagnosis algorithm to detect and isolate multiple faults in a system. The proposed fault diagnosis algorithm is based on a multiple fault classifier which consists of two ART2 NN(adaptive resonance theory2 neural network) modules and the algorithm is composed of three main parts - parameter estimation, fault detection and isolation. When a change in the system occurs, estimated parameters go through a transition zone in which residuals between the system output and the estimated output cross the threshold, and in this zone, estimated parameters are transferred to the multiple faults classifier for fault isolation. From the computer simulation results, it is verified that when the proposed diagnosis algorithm is performed successfully, it detects and isolates faults in the position control system of a DC motor.

  • In an effort to improve speech recognition, we investigated the effect of the number of clusters. In usual LBG clustering, the number of codebook clusters is doubled on each bifurcation and hence cannot be chosen arbitrarily in a natural way. To have the number of clusters at our control, we combined adaptive resonance theory (ART2) with LBG and perform the clustering in two stages. The codebook thus formed was used in subsequent processing of fuzzy vector quantization (FVQ) and HMM for speech recognition tests. Compared to conventional LBG, our method was shown to reduce the best recognition error rate by 0${\sim$}0.9% depending on the vocabulary size. The result also showed that between 400 and 800 would be the optimal number of clusters in the limit of small and large vocabulary speech recognitions of isolated words, respectively.

  • Segmentation of image data is an important problem in computer vision, remote sensing, and image analysis. Most objects in the real world have textured surfaces. Segmentation based on texture information is possible even if there are no apparent intensity edges between the different regions. There are many existing methods for texture segmentation and classification, based on different types of statistics that can be obtained from the gray-level images. In this paper, we use a neural network model --- ART-2 (Adaptive Resonance Theory) for textures in an image, proposed by Carpenter and Grossberg. In our experiments, we use Walsh matrix as feature value for textured image.

  • This study proposes a web-based remote monitoring system for evaluating degradation of machine tools using ART2(Adaptive Resonance Theory 2) neural network. A number of studies on the monitoring of machine tools using neural networks have been reported. However, when normal condition is changed due to factors such as maintenance, tool change etc., or a new failure signal is generated, such algorithms need to be entirely retrained in order to accommodate the new signals. To cope with such problems, this study develops a remote monitoring system using ART2 in which new signals when required are simply added to the classes previously trained. This system can monitor degradation as well as failure of machine tools. To show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, the system is experimentally applied to monitoring a simulator similar to the main spindle of a machine tool, and the results show that the proposed system can be extended to monitoring of real industrial machine tools and equipment.

  • This study introduces a new tool breakage detecting technology comprised of an unsupervised neural network combined with adaptive time series autoregressive(AR) model where parameters are estimated recursively at each sampling instant using a parameter adaptation algorithm based on an RLS(Recursive Least Square). Experiment indicates that AR parameters are good features for tool breakage, therefore it can be detected by tracking the evolution of the AR parameters during milling process. an ART 2(Adaptive Resonance Theory 2) neural network is used for clustering of tool states using these parameters and the network is capable of self organizing without supervised learning. This system operates successfully under the wide range of cutting conditions without a priori knowledge of the process, with fast monitoring time.

  • Neural networks-based fault diagnosis algorithm to detect and isolate faults in the nonlinear systems is proposed. In the proposed method, the fault is detected when the errors between the system output and the multilayer neural network-based nominal model output cross a Predetermined threshold. Once a fault in the system is detected, the system outputs are transferred to the fault classifier by nultilayer/ART2 NN (adaptive resonance theory 2 neural network) for fault isolation. From the computer simulation results, it is verified that the proposed fault diagonal method can be performed successfully to detect and isolate faults in a nonlinear system.

  • Welding is essential for the manufacture of a range of engineering components which may vary from very large structures such as ships and bridges to very complex structures such as aircraft engines, or miniature components for microelectronic applications. Especially, a domestic situation of the welding automation is still depend on the arc sensing system in comparison to the vision sensing system. Specially, the gap-detecting of workpiece using conventional arc sensor is proposed in this study. As a same principle, a welding current varies with the size of a welding gap. This study introduce to the fuzzy membership filter to cancel a high frequency noise of welding current, and ART2 which has the competitive learning network classifies the signal patterns the filtered welding signal. A welding current possesses a specific pattern according to the existence or the size of a welding gap. These specific patterns result in different classification in comparison with an occasion for no welding gap. The patterns in each case of 1mm, 2mm, 3mm and no welding gap are identified by the artificial neural network.

  • Clustering plays an indispensable role for data analysis. Many clustering algorithms have been developed. However, most of them suffer poor performance of learning. To archive good clustering performance, we develop a hybrid neural network model. It is the combination of Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) and Adaptive Resonance Theory 2 (ART2). It inherits two distinct advantages of stability and plasticity from ART2. Meanwhile, by combining the merits of MLP, it improves the performance for clustering. Experiment results show that our model can be used for clustering with promising performance.
