  • In wireless ATM system, powerful FEC code is required for highly reliable data transmission. In this paper, we propose an adaptive hybrid ARQ scheme using RCPSCCC for WATM system. The code rate of RCPSCCC is adjusted to match channel conditions and data types. By using only the effective free distances of outer and inner encoders, we derive upper bounds of the bit and word error probabilities over Rayleigh and Rician fading channels. By applying RCPSCCC to the adaptive hybrid ARQ protocol, highly reliable data transmission can be achieved.

  • In this paper, the hybrid ARQ system involving the single error correcting and double error detection (127, 119) cyclic Hamming codes and the SR(selective repeat) ARQ schemes with a finite receiver buffer has been designed and constructed. The system performance has been analyzed and simulated. As a result of the simulation, it has been shown that the transmitter retransmitted those data blocks that were detected in errors especially the request signal errors using two retransmission. The system performance was measured by throughput efficiency due to channel error effects.

  • When the bluetooth technology of smartphone is applied to a remote control system, communication errors caused by wave attenuation and interference results in the shortening of communication distance, loss of the target device control and malfunctioning. In this study, we propose a method to adopt a retransmission persistence controlled S/W ARQ in bluetooth communication to minimize the effect of the communication failure and to detect and handle the state where the target device gets lost control. We implemented a motor-driven RC car equpped with a bluetooth communication module and a steering application program on smartphone to test the proposed method. The experiments are conducted in three communication environments, and have resulted in the increase of the communication distance by at least 30% when S/W ARQ is applied. Moreover, when the communication was disrupted due to environmental disturbances, the S/W ARQ based system stopped immediately any undergoing operations to avoid possible malfunction.

  • In traditional wireless communication systems the main power consumption is due to the actual transmissions power. Therefore, energy-constrained wireless networks have gained considerable research attention in recent years. Multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) structure, or multiple antenna communication is one of the techniques that has gain considerable importance in wireless systems and networks. In this paper, BER and throughput performance of MISO system with Go-back-N ARQ(Automatic Repeat Request) technique in wireless networks are analyzed and the energy consumption of MISO-based wireless networks is compared with conventional SISO-based wireless networks. Obtained results show the applicability of MISO system with Go-back-N ARQ technique in wireless networks with smart system design.

  • In order to support reliable medium access control (MAC) layer multicast services in Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) networks, we here propose spreading codes (Cumulative ACK (CA) code and ARQ Feedback Request (AFR) code) based reliable multicast feedback scheme. The status indications based on the automatic repeat request (ARQ) mechanism are needed in some multicast services. In accordance with various wireless channel environments, we demonstrate the performance excellency of our proposed scheme with respect to required uplink resources compared with the original feedback scheme based on unicast ARQ feedback messages. In addition, we analyze packet error rate (PER) against the various wireless channel environments.

  • Hybrid-ARQ and opportunistic relaying are the widely used schemes for obtaining diversity gain in wireless communications. In opportunistic relaying, channel state information(CSI) between relays and destination is required to select the best relay. But if the destination moves very fast, the CSI becomes outdated. In this paper, performance of hybrid-ARQ based opportunistic relaying with outdated CSI is analyzed in outage probability and throughput perspective. The analysis is verified by computer simulations.

  • We proposed a multi-input multi-output automatic repeat request (MIMO-ARQ) scheme using double multi-strata space-time code (D-MSSTC) for high spectral efficiency in $4{\times}N_r$ MIMO systems. To improve error performance of the proposed scheme, we allocate power and phase to each layer of MSSTC over every transmission. Additionally, we suboptimally optimize power allocation to maximize the minimum coding gain distance of D-MSSTC and phase allocation to efficiently minimize inter-layer interference in MSSTC. In simulation results, it is observed that the proposed MIMO-ARQ scheme based on D-MSSTC shows better block error rate (BLER) performance than conventional schemes.

  • Conventional cooperative communications can attain gain of spatial diversity and path loss reduction because destination node independently received same signal from source node and relay node located between source node and destination node. However, these techniques bring about decreased spectral efficiency with relay node and increased complexity of receiver by using maximal ratio combining (MRC). This paper has proposed cooperative ARQ protocol that can improve the above problems and can get the better performance. This method can increase the spectral efficiency than conventional cooperative communication because if the received signal from source node is satisfied by the destination preferentially, the destination transmits ACK message to both relay node and source node and then recovers the received signal. In addition, if ARQ message indicates NACK relay node operates selective retransmission and we can increase reliability of system compared with that of general ARQ protocol in which source node retransmits data. In the proposed protocol, the selective retransmission and ARQ message are to be determined by comparing log-likelihood ratio (LLR) computation of received signal from source node with predetermined threshold values. Therefore, this protocol don't waste redundant bandwidth with CRC code and can reduce complexity of receiver without MRC. We verified spectral efficiency and BER performance for the proposed protocol through Monte-Carlo simulation over Rayleigh fading plus AWGN.
