  • In many cases the systems are so complex that it is not possible to obtain reasonable models using physical laws. Also a model based on physical laws contains a number of unknown parameters even if the structure is derived from physical laws. These problems can be solved by system identification. In this paper, plate activity vibration is selected as an example for system identification. the transfer functions of this system is derived by using ARMAX based on input/output data through experiment.

  • A self-tuning control scheme, incorporated with the simplified 1st-order ARMAX(Auto-Regressive Moving Average eXogenous) model, for single rod hydraulic cylinder which has varying dynamic characteristics is presented here. An adaptive controller is developed for the system that uses feedforward and optimal feedback control for simultaneous parameter identification and tracking control. Through experimental results, the performance comparison of the self-tuning controller with a fixed gain proportional controller clearly shows its superior ability in handling load changes in quiescent states.

  • In this paper, a method of substructural identification is presented for the estimation of localized structural parameters. for this purpose, an auto-regressive and moving average with stochastic input (ARMAX) model is derived for the substructure to process the measurement data impaired by noises. The sequential prediction error method is used fer the estimation of unknown localized parameters. Using the substructural method, the number of unknown parameters can be reduced and the convergence and accuracy of estimation can be improved. For some substructures, the effect of the input excitation is expressed in terms of the responses at the inferences with the main structure, and substructural identification may be carried out without measuring the actual input excitation to the whole structure. Example analysis is carried out for idealized structural models of a multistory building and a truss bridge. The results indicate that the present method is effective and efficient for local damage estimation of complex structures.

  • In this successive study, the analytical realization of coupled system was introduced using the times series identification and spectrum analysis, which was compared with conventional FFT spectrum. Also, the numerical responses of second order system, which is coupled, were solved using the numerical calculation of Runge-Kutta Gill method. After numerical analysis, the displacement, velocity and acceleration were acquired. Among them, the response of displacement was used for the analysis of time series spectrum. Among several time series, the ARMAX algorithm was proved to be appropriate for the spectrum analysis of the coupled system. Using the separated response of 1st and 2nd mode, the mode was calculated separately. And the responses of mixed modes were also analyzed for calculation of the mixed modes in the coupled system.

  • Active vibration control of intelligent laminated composite plates is performed experimental1y Laminated composite place is modeled by the system identification method. For the system identification process, the laminated composite place is excited by two piezoelectric actuators with PRBS signals. At the same time, the displacement of the laminated composite plate is measured by a gap sensor. From these excited PRBS signals and the measured displacement sequence, system parameters of the laminated composite plate are estimated using a recursive prediction error method. Model of the laminated composite plate with two piezoeletric actuators is assumed to be the form of ARMAX. From the estimated ARHMAX model, a state space equation of the observable canonical form is obtained. With this state space equation, a controller and an observer for active vibration control is designed using the optimal control method. Controller and observer are implemented on a digital system. Experiments on the vibration control are Performed with changing the outer layer fiber orientation of intelligent composite plates.

  • The Active Constrained Layer Damping(ACLO) combines the simplicity and reliability of passive damping with the low weight and high efficiency of active control to attain high damping characteristics. The proposed ACLD treatment consists of a viscoelastic damping which is sandwiched between an active piezoelectric layer and a host structure. In this manner, the smart ACLD consists of a Passive Constrained Layer Damping(PCLD) which is augmented with an active control in response to the structural vibrations. The Arc type shell model is introduced to describe the interactions between the vibrating host structure, piezoelectric actuator and visco damping, The system is modeled by applying ARMAX model and changing a state-space form through the system identification method. An optimum control law for piezo actuator is obtain by LQR(Linear Quadratic Regulator) Method. The performance of ACLD system is determined and compared with PCLD in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the ACLD treatment, Also, the actuation capability of a piezo actuator is examined experimentally by using various thickness of Viscoelastic Materials(VEM).

  • A down hole vertical seismic array is a sequence of instruments installed at various depths in the earth to record the ground motion at multiple points during an earthquake. Numerous studies demonstrate the unique utility of vertical seismic arrays for studying in situ site response and soil behavior. Examples are given of analyses made at two sites to show the value of data from vertical seismic arrays. The sites examined are the Lotung, Taiwan SMART1 array and a new site installed at Jingliao, Taiwan. Details of the installation of the Jingliao array are given. ARX models are theoretically the correct process models for vertical wave propagation in the layered earth, and are used to linearly map deeper sensor input signals to shallower sensor output signals. An example of Event 16 at the Lotung array is given. This same data, when examined in detail with a Bayesian inference model, can also be explained by nonlinear filters yielding commonly accepted soil degradation curves. Results from applying an ARMAX model to data from the Jingliao vertical seismic array are presented. Estimates of inter-transducer soil increment resonant frequency, shear modulus, and damping ratio are presented. The shear modulus varied from 50 to 150 MPa, and damping ratio between 8% and 15%. A new hardware monitoring system - TerraScope - is an affordable 4-D down-hole seismic monitoring system based on independent, microprocessor-controlled sensor Pods. The Pods are nominally 50 mm in diameter, and about 120 mm long. An internal 16-bit micro-controller oversees all aspects of instrumentation, eight programmable gain amplifiers, and local signal storage.
