This study examined that the effects of fathers-in-law's and mothers-in law's acceptance-rejection on husbands' and wives' psychological well-being using APIM. Participants were 265 couples living Seoul KyungKi-do and JeJu Island, and their mean age was 39.16 (husbands, SD=7.39) and 36.45 (wives, SD=7.36), respectively. The results of APIM showed that, in father-in law model, actor effects of husbands (the influence of fathers in law acceptance-rejection for husbands on husbands' psychological well-being) were more significant than actor effects of wives (the influence of fathers-in-law's acceptance-rejection for wives on wives' psychological well-being), while partner effects of wives (the influence of fathers in law acceptance-rejection for wives on husbands' psychological well-being) more significant than partner effects of husbands (the influence of fathers' in law's acceptance-rejection for husbands on wives' psychological well-being). In mother-in law model, there were no significant differences both between actor effects of wives and actor effects of husbands, and between partner effects of wives and partner effects of husbands.

Conventional channel estimation methods for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system don't show the good characteristics in terms of fast fading channels. To solve this drawback in conventional methods, we propose the channel estimation method fur OFDM, assisted pilot for improvement and convergence in mobile system (APIM), which has a good performance and computational complexity in consideration of other methods. APIM uses the more developed concept of conventional methods and a block frame structure within a whole channel. This concept prevents overall performance from diverging or showing a poor one. The simulation results demonstrate the APIM outperforms pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM) and extended symbol aided estimation (ESAE) in terms of mean square error (MSE) and bit error rate (BER) performance under all Rayleigh fading environment. Considering the simulation performance and computational complexity, we can see APIM shows better characteristics than conventional methods for OFDM and has not any error floor even in a fast Rayleigh fading environment.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of parenting efficacy measured at 6 months of infancy, and on parenting stress at 9-months of infancy through a short-term longitudinal approach. Participants were 116 couples living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, whose first born children were in infancy. The results of the 116 couples were analyzed through the APIM analysis method. The results of the APIM showed that mothers' and fathers' actor effect was significant, which meant that parenting efficacy at 6 months of infancy could predict the existence of parenting stress at 9 months of infancy. However, the partner effect of both mothers and fathers was insignificant. This research demonstrates the significance of parenting efficacy at early infancy, which in turn affects parenting stress as well as factors that need to be considered in pre-parental education.
The primary focus of the study assesses how individual spouses' and their partners' marital adjustment influence their own and their mental health. The study also examines whether this influence was mediated by the relationship with their adult-children. Data were collected from 271 dyads of elderly couples by using a self-report questionnaire. Marital adjustment was measured in terms of intimacy and comparison level of marriage. Mental health was measured in terms of depressive mood, anxiety, and somatization. The Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM) analysis revealed that marital adjustment was positively associated with one's own mental health and with one's own relationship with their adult-children, but not with their partner's. On the other hand, the relationship with adult-children was positively associated with one's own and with their partner's mental health. Furthermore, analysis of the mediating model using APIM indicated that marital adjustment through one's own adult-children relationship had direct and indirect effects on one's own mental health. It is interesting to note that the wives' mental health were directly influenced by their partners' relationship with adult-children. However, the effect of the husbands' mental health was not significant. These findings highlight dyadic interdependence among spouses' perceptions of marital and adult-children relationship with their mental health. The results suggest implications for educators and clinicians working with elderly couples to improve their psychological and relational health.
This study examined the effects of the actor and partner according to the activity immersion conflict perceived by rural multicultural couples in terms of the self-esteem and happiness using Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM). For this purpose, the data of 482 persons from 241 husband-immigrant women dyads were analyzed. As results of the analysis, only the effect of the actor among the actor and partner effect according to the activity immersion conflict affected the self-esteem significantly in both husband and immigrant women. Conflict, namely the actor and partner effect, affected the happiness in both the husband and immigrant women significantly. Second, the difference in the actor conflict level on activity immersion perceived by the couple according to the women's native country was significant in both husband and immigrant women. The level of actor conflict was highest in Vietnamese husbands and the Philippine women. On the other hand, the difference in the partner conflict level on the activity immersion according to the women's native country was significant only in the women, and the level of Vietnamese women was highest. Therefore, the characteristics in the level of actor and partner conflict on activity immersion was caused by the difference in the number of activity organizations participating between the husband and women. Based on the results, this study suggests some measures to reduce the conflict of couples through activity. In addition, some plans for a follow-up study using APIM are suggested.
The purpose is to find the effectiveness of parenting stress of husbands and wives with early children on their marital satisfaction. To achieve purpose, this study uses data of 455 couples who have early children from 7th wave of Panel Study on Korean Children. Data was analyzed by SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 for the APIM. The results are as follow. Marital satisfaction of husbands and wives are effected by parenting stress of actor and partner. Actor effect and partner effect of husbands' parenting stress effect on their marital satisfaction similarly. And actor effect of wives' parenting stress has a greater influence on their marital satisfaction than partner effect. Finally, some suggestions related to alleviate parenting stress and develop marital satisfaction of husbands and wives with early children were proposed.
Given the interdependence of a marital couple, this study examined the effects of both cultural challenge and economic hardship on intention to divorce among the multicultural couple using the actor-partner interdependence model(APIM), and explored dyadic patterns of actor and partner effects. 415 couples(n=830) participated in this self-administered questionnaire study. Results of path analyses based on APIMs revealed that for Korean husbands perceived cultural challenge contributed positively to divorce intention of the couple showing both actor and partner effects, whereas for immigrant wives such perception showed only an actor effect. In contrast, perceived economic hardship among the husbands had little effect on divorce intention of both husbands and wives, whereas such perception by wives had both actor and partner effects on divorce intention. Results of dyadic pattern analyses performed by Bootstrap indicated the actor-only pattern and the couple pattern of perceived cultural challenge on divorce intention of husbands and wives respectively. In case of perceived economic hardship comparison of the effect size suggested the partner-only pattern and the actor-only pattern for divorce intention of husbands and wives respectively. These findings implied that in order to promote conjugal harmony and to prevent the multicultural family from being dissolved, Korean husbands need to develop greater cultural competence so as to tolerate cultural differences between the couple, whereas immigrant wives and their families need to develop greater economic competence so as to foster a hope for economic reliance.
This study examined the mediating effect of intimate partner violence (IPV) between alcohol use and relational satisfaction by the Actor Partner Interdependence Model (APIM). For this study, data were drawn from the 13th-wave Korea Welfare Panel data and a total of 2,263 married couples were included in the analysis. SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 24 were used to analyze data and the Actor Partner Interdependence Mediation Model (APIMeM) examined the mediating effect. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the actor effect and the partner effect on the relationship of alcohol use and partner violence were all verified to be positive effects. Second, the actor effect and the partner effect on the relationship of partner violence and relational satisfaction were all verified to be negative effects. Third, comparison of the actor effect and partner effect between the husband and wife showed that the partner effect in which alcohol use to partner violence was greater in the husband than in the wife. In addition, both the actor and partner effect of violent reducing their relational satisfaction were greater in wives than in husbands. The findings of this study suggest that IPV has a mediating role between couples' alcohol use and the relational satisfaction and husband's violent behavior has more negative effect on the quality of the relationship than the wife's violent behavior.
This study investigates the effect of in-law relationship on the marital adjustment of married couples by considering family-oriented Korean culture. Previous in-law studies did not consider the influence of another party who did not attend the survey due to sampling limitations. However, the marital adjustment of married couple and the satisfaction of the relationship with parents-in-law are two-way relationships that affect each other and are not one-sided relationships. By considering the non-independence of the couple's data, Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM) was utilized to examine the structural relationship between marital adjustment (marital satisfaction and marital stability) and in-law relationship quality (relationship satisfaction between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law for wives, relationship satisfaction between mother-in-law and son-in-law for husbands) of 203 married couples. Results indicated that a high satisfaction of wives' in-law relationship increased personal marital adjustment as well as husbands' marital adjustment. The husbands' positive relationship with in-laws also increased personal marital adjustment and their wives' marital adjustment. The results of this study can be used as basic data for program development and counseling for healthy in-law relationship as well as educational data for couples intending to marry.
The purpose of this study was to examine actor and partner effects among infertile couples in determining whether self-esteem affects the degree of infertility-related stress via perceived spousal support. The sample comprised 219 couples who experienced infertility, each of whom completed an online survey. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics, t-test, correlation analysis and APIM (Actor-Partner Interdependence Model) were performed using SPSS 25.0 and Mplus 7.3 program. The main results were as follows. First, the actor effect of spousal support on self-esteem was significant in both husbands and wives. Second, the actor effects of spousal support on infertility-related stress and self-esteem on infertility stress were significant only in husbands. Third, in the association between husbands' and wives' spousal support and infertility-related stress, three mediating pathways via husband's self-esteem were found to be significant. Based on these results, the necessity for a couple-level analysis in infertility research, psycho-emotional interventions for infertile couples, and implications for follow-up studies were discussed.
