A Method for Detecting Unauthorized Access Point over 3G Network (3G망을 사용하는 인가되지 않은 AP 탐지 방법)

  • Malicious rogue AP has been used for variety attacks such as packet sniffing and Man-In-The-Middle Attack. It is used for the purpose of data leakage via 3G network within companies, and the unauthorized AP could be a reason of security incidents even though it is not intended. In this paper, we propose the method for detecting unauthorized access point over 3G networks throughout the RTT (Round Trip Time) value for classification. Through the experiments, we show that the method can classify the AP which is installed by normal way and the AP over 3G networks successfully.

  • As the need for stable and high speed wireless Internet service Brows, the wireless LAN service provider hurries to preempt wireless LAN service market. IAPP(InterAccess Point protocol) is defined to be able to provide a secure handoff mechanism of wireless LAN terminal information between AP(Access Point)s, and the related IEEE standard is IEEE 802.11f. For the secure handoff of wireless LAN terminal, it is necessary to transfer terminal's authentication & accounting information securely from old AP to new AP IEEE 802.11f recommends RADIUS server as IAPP server which authenticates AP and provides information for secure channel between APs. This paper proposes IAPP server using Diameter protocol to overcome the limit of RADIUS sewer, and describes about the interaction between server components and integration method with the current IAPP client system.

An Optimal AP Discovery Method in 802.11 Network (802.11망에서 최적의 AP 검색 기법)

  • With the development of mobile communications and Internet technology, there is a strong need to provide seamless and fast connectivity for roaming devices. Generally, the mobile host (MH) may have several available networks when entering a new wireless area. However, the standard of decision for user's internet connection is provided only the subsystem identification (SSID) and signal strength of access point (AP). These two standards could not enough to decide optimal AP to the MH. Therefore, to decide the optimal AP, more information is needed. In this paper, we present additional information such as status of MH, capacity, current load, and depth of network hierarchy, by router advertisement message at layer 3. Also, we proposed decision engine (DE) on the MH that analyzes APs and decides the optimal AP automatically by AP's status information. For the MH, wireless connection period is increased, the power consumption is decreased, and the signaling overhead is reduced. For AP and router, the load balancing is provided and the network topology can also be more efficient.

  • This paper presents an interface configuration between Access Point(AP) and Radio Over Fiber (ROF) transceiver for the wireless internet system. The wireless internet could provides 60km/h mobility and 50Mbps IP based data services for each mobile terminal. Thus, cost effective cell infrastructure is inevitably required. This paper suggests an interface configuration between AP and passive integrated picocell(PIP) involving ROF links. Nonlinear characteristics of ROF link using a typical FP transceiver are measured for wireless internet applications.

  • In this article, we propose a new method for precise WLAN (Wireless Area Network) AP (Access Point) localization using GPS information measured in the smart phone. The idea is that the possible area of WLAN AP location, called AP_Area, is first determined by measuring GPS information and the received signal strength in the smart phones. As the number of measurements from the smart phones increases, the AP_Area are successively narrowed down to the actual AP location. We have performed the simulation to evaluate the proposed algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can detect the Wi-Fi AP localization within 5 m (probability over than 90%).

  • Nowadays, wireless local area networks are widely deployed so that stations can potentially associate with an access point. The AP selection strategy is one of the significant research areas for wireless local area networks. The selection strategy solves the relevant problem is which AP can be selected and associated with a station so that the efficient resource utilization can be obtained. Rather than merely choosing the AP with the strongest received signal strength, however, we calculate effective throughput for each neighboring AP and use it as a basis for AP selection. Referencing the throughput is better than referencing the signal strength only because the network may contain a severe load imbalance. We have performed computer simulations using OPNET modeler in order to verify the performance of the proposed scheme. The results show us that the proposed selection method outperforms that of the conventional one in terms of throughput and delay.

  • In this paper, we describe a development of a Bluetooth Access Point for the WAN connection of home network devices. Especially, users can access the PSTN at home instead of expensive digital cellular network through the AP, using the 'one-phone', which is the Bluetooth enabled cellular phone. The simultaneous benchmark test about telephone service and LAN access service shows the perfect compatibility and reasonable performance of the access point. The one-phone service can become a convergence of wired and wireless communication through the AP.

  • This paper is to develop WiMAX CPE(wireless AP) that can provides Wi-Fi terminal with wireless Internet service by connecting to Wibro wireless network. This AP aims to support WiBro in upstream interface basically, and Wi-Fi and 100M Ethernet interface in downstream. So, we has developed the equipment for business that wireless ISP can provide many Internet customers with wireless Internet service by using Wi-Fi terminal in subway, car, ship, and so on, and the equipment for users that a user can purchase and then install in person. For the latter, multiple Wi-Fi terminals that be registered in WiBro service can be connected to Internet simultaneously.

  • As the IT industry develops, the smart-phone technology and functions which are actively being studied at the moment greatly influence the entire living environment. With the smart-phone technology and functions, people's interest for the wireless LAN which can be used to get access to the Internet anytime anywhere is gradually increasing. However, since the malicious attacker can easily carry out hacking or approach the contents due to the characteristics of the wireless radio wave, the personal information with a high level of importance for data security is easily exposed due to Spoofing, Denial of Service attack and Man in the Middle attack. Therefore, the demand for security is gradually increasing. In this paper, the safe wireless network service environment is provided by supplementing the vulnerability in regard to Spoofing, Session Hijacking and Man in the Middle attack after executing the client's authentication process, the AP authentication process and the Mobile Agency authentication process with the client's information in the USIM, the AP information and the Mobile Agency information when the client uses the wireless Internet through the Mobile Agency AP access in the smart phone environment.

An AP Selection Scheme for Enhancement of Multimedia Streaming in Wireless Network Environments (무선 네트워크 환경에서 멀티미디어 서비스를 위한 AP 선정 기법)

  • Recently, there has been a growing interest in the use of WLAN technology due to its easy deployment, flexibility and so on. Examples of WLAN applications range from standard internet services such as Web access to real-time services with strict latency/throughput requirements such as multimedia video and voice over IP on wireless network environments. Fair and efficient distribution of the traffic loads among APs(Access Points) has become an important issue for improved utilization of WLAN. This paper focuses on an AP selection scheme for achieving better load balance, and hence increasing network resource utilization for each user on wireless network environments. This scheme makes use of active scan patterns and the network delay as main parameters of load measurement and AP selection. This scheme attempts to estimate the AP traffic loads by observing the up/down delay and utilize the results to maximize the link resource efficiency through load balancing. We compared the proposed scheme with the original SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio)-based scheme using the NS-2(Network Simulation.2). We found that the proposed scheme improves the throughput by 12.5% and lower the network up/down link delay by 36.84% and 60.42%, respectively. All in all, the new scheme can significantly increase overall network throughput and reduce up/down delay while providing excellent quality for voice and video services.
