The satellite employs an adaptive beamformer to efficiently detect various signals and to suppress multiple interference signals, simultaneously. Although the adaptive beamforming satellite system needs Angle-of-Arrival (AOA) information of the desired signal, it is difficult to estimate the signal AOAs on the satellite environment. However, the AOA estimation on the ground control tower is more efficient and accurate comparing to the satellite environment. In this paper, we propose an adaptive beamforming satellite system based on the signal location information on the ground, consisting on an angle estimator, an adaptive beamformer, and signal processing & D/B unit. The ground control tower estimates the accurate location of the signal source, and it sends the estimated coordinates of the desired signal to the satellite. The angle estimator mounted on the satellite calculates the desired signal AOA, based on the signal location information transmitted from the ground control center. The satellite beamformer detects the desired signal and suppresses unwanted signals based on the signal AOA calculated by the angle estimator. We provide computer simulation results to present the performance of the proposed satellite adaptive beamforming system based on the signal location information.

It has well known that MUSIC and ESPRIT algorithms estimate angle of arrival(AOA) with high resolution by eigenvalue decomposition of the covariance matrix which were obtained from the array antennas. However, the disadvantage of MUSIC and ESPRIT is that they are computationally ineffective, and then they are difficult to implement in real time. The other problem of MUSIC and ESRPIT is to require calibrated antennas with uniform features, and are sensitive to the manufacturing facult and other physical uncertainties. To overcome these disadvantages, several method using neural model have been study. For multiple signals, those require huge training data prior to AOA estimation. This paper proposes the algorithm for AOA estimation by interconnected hopfield neural model. Computer simulations show the validity of the proposed algorithm. The proposed method does not require huge training procedure and only assigns interconnected coefficients to the neural network prior to AOA estimation.
In this paper, we propose a closed-form based 3D localization method in the presence of multiple signal sources. General localization methods such as TDOA, AOA, and FDOA can estimate a location when a single signal source exists. When there are multiple unknown signal sources, there is a limit in estimating the location. The proposed method calculates a cross-correlation vector of signals received by sensors having an array antenna, and estimates TDOA and AOA values from the cross-correlation values. Then, the coordinate transformation is performed using the position of the reference sensor. Then, the coordinate rotation is performed using the estimated AOA value for the transformed coordinates, and then the three-dimensional position of each emitter is estimated. The proposed method verifies its performance through computer simulation.
In order to evaluate the application of Algae Online Analyzer (AOA), an instrument of automatic measurement of chlorophyll a concentration, was tested and compared with the acetone extraction method on the basis of microscopic counting of phytoplankton in field water (Paltang Reservoir). We simultaneously conducted AOA operation and extraction method with the same water sample, to compare both results of chlorophyll a measurement. Phytoplankton were enumerated by inverted microscope with the Sedgwick-Rafter chamber, and classified into the genus or species. According to the AOA measurement, the diatom most (83.6%) strongly contributed to the total chlorophyll a concentration, followed by chlorophyceae> cyanophyceae>cryptophyceae. Overall, the results of both AOA and extraction method showed a similar trend and significant correlation (r=0.87, n=302, p<0.001), however, there were some differences according to the season and species. In particular, the relationship between AOA Chl-a density of the diatom (r=0.73, p=0.010) and cyrptophyceae (.=0.83, p=0.00154) were siginificant, while chlorophyceae (r= -0.13) and cyanophyceae (r= -0.16) showed no clear relationship during the study period. Although we can not fully understand why there was difference between both mothods, AOA application for alarming algal bloom and water quality management during the algal bloom appears to be very relevant. However, the further study or technical upgrade of AOA measurement is required, especially in the case of low density of phytoplankton or species-specific measurement.
An in vivo oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed on hyperglycemic male Sprague-Dawley rats to assess the effect of fruits and vegetables ($1g{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ body weight) on blood glucose levels (${\Delta}BGLs$) at different time intervals of 0, 5, 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 min. The areas under glucose curve (${\Delta}AUCs$) were calculated at 120 min of OGTT by trapezoid method. Total phenolic content (TPC) and anti-oxidant activity (AOA) of fruits and vegetables were assayed in vitro by Folin Ciocalteu and DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) methods, respectively. At the end of the experiment the correlations among the parameters TPC, AOA and ${\Delta}AUC$ was estimated by Pearson's correlations. Among fruit crops, tangerine, plum, grape and pear and among vegetables, blue leaf mustard, cabbage, chicory, broccoli and others exhibited significant hypoglycemic effects by reducing ${\Delta}BGLs$ with significant ${\Delta}AUC$. The effective ${\Delta}AUC$ ranged from $5548.2{\pm}462.1$ to $3823.3{\pm}282.0mg-min{\cdot}dL^{-1}$. The TPC and AOA ranged from $0.063{\pm}0.00$ to $0.913{\pm}0.14mg{\cdot}g^{-1}$ GAE and $01.05{\pm}0.08$ to $75.46{\pm}0.06%$, respectively. Overall, six fruits and fifteen vegetables exhibited higher TPC and one fruit and four vegetables exhibited higher AOA. There was a better correlation among TPC, AOA and ${\Delta}AUC$ of fruits and TPC & AOA of vegetables. We report that hypoglycemically significant fruits and vegetables investigated in this study have pharmacological importance which reduced ${\Delta}BGLs$ through insulin like activity and AOA in prevention of type-2 diabetes.

We consider transmission beamforming techniques for frequency-division-duplex (FDD) wireless communication systems using adaptive arrays to improve the signal quality of the array transmission link. We develop a simple effective transmission beamforming technique based on an approximated frequency tranlsation (AFT) to derive the tranmsiion beamforming weights from the uplink channel vector. This technique exploits the invariance of the short-time averaged fast fading statistics to small frequency translations. A simple approximate relationship that relates the transmission channel vector to the reception channel vector is derived. We have developed its practical alternative in which the frequency translation of the channel vector is performed at the principal angle of arrival (AOA) of the u;link synthestic angular spectrum instead of the mean AOA. To analyze the performance of the proposed methods, we consider the power loss incurred by applying the estimated channel vector instead of the true downlink channel vector. The performance is analyzed as a function of the mean AOA, the angular spread, the number of elements, frequncy difference between the uplink and the downlink, and the angle distribution. Their performance is also compared with that of the direct weight reuse method and the AOA based methods.

The satellite antenna for collecting information is mainly classified into reflector antenna, lens antenna, and phased array antenna. Among them, the phased array antenna with the excellent antenna pattern control performance for a multi-beam system is frequently used. Although the terrestrial signal information collection based on the satellite is not much effected geographically, it requires the accurate angle-of-arrival (AOA) information of the interesting signal. In this paper, we discuss the characteristics and the advantages/disadvantages of the antenna array shape employed in the phased array antenna. In addition, we present the Cascade AOA estimation algorithm based on a square array antenna mounted on the satellite receiver, and show the performance evaluation results through the computer simulation.

The selection of the optimal position of the flap was performed in order to improve the aerodynamic performance during the take-off and landing processes of aircraft. For this, the existing airfoils of the main wing and flap are selected as the baseline model and the lift coefficients (cl) according to angle of attacks (AOA) were calculated with the change of the position of flap airfoil. The objective function was defined as the consideration of the maximum cl, lift to drag ratio and cl at certain AOA. Then, at 121 experimental points within $20mm{\times}20mm$ domain, two dimensional flow simulations with Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model were performed concerning the AOA from 0 to 15 degree. If the optimal position was located at the domain boundary, the domain moved to the optimal position. These processes were iterated until the position was included in the inside of the domain. From these processes, the flow separation at low AOA was removed and cl increased linearly comparing with that of the baseline model.
