  • Diffusion is a powerful tool to understand geological processes recorded in terrestrial rocks as well as extraterrestrial materials. Since the diffusive exchange of elements or isotopes may have occurred differently in the solar nebula (high temperature and rapid cooling) and on the parent bodies (fluid-assisted thermal metamorphism at relatively low temperature), it is particularly important to model elemental or isotopic diffusion profiles within the mineral grains to better understand the evolution of the early solar system. A numerical model with the finite difference method for the fast grain boundary diffusion was established for the exchange of elements or isotopes between constituent minerals in a closed system. The fast grain boundary diffusion numerical model was applied to 1) 26Mg variation in plagioclase of an amoeboid olivine aggregate (AOA) from a CH chondrite and 2) Fe-Mg interdiffusion between chondrules, AOA, and matrix minerals in a CO chondrite. Equilibrium isotopic fractionation and equilibrium partitioning were also included in the numerical model, based on the assumption that equilibrium can be reached at the interfaces of mineral crystals. The numerical model showed that diffusion profiles observed in chondrite samples likely resulted from the diffusive exchange of elements or isotopes between the constituent minerals. This study also showed that the closure temperature is determined not only by the mineral with the slowest diffusivity in the system, but also strongly depends on the constituent mineral abundances.

  • In this paper, positioning schemes based on AOA(Angle of Arrival), TOA(Time of Arrival), and TDOA(Time Difference of Arrival) measurements are reviewed and analyzed. In the case of using those schemes in microcell structure with severe multipath fading and shadowing conditions, the rapid and unpredictable variation of signal level makes it difficult to estimate the position and velocity of mobiles. Therefore, we propose a novel mobile tracking method based on the multicriteria decision making, in which uncertain parameters such as RSS(Received Signal Strength), the distance between mobile and base station, the moving direction, and the previous location are participated in the decision process using aggregation function in fuzzy set theory. Through a simulation, we analysis the impaction of the frequent change of direction and speed of mobiles.

  • The aim of this paper is to research the change in the turbulent flow and the AOA occurred by the wind perpendicular to the direction of runway according to the three-dimensional numerical analysis. The maximum amplitude of AOA variation on runway reached $6^{\circ}$ within 1 second because of the wake formed by the constructions in the vicinity of the airport. The overall effects appeared in aperiodic forms. It was also observed the rapid flow generated between the buildings shifted into the existing wake and eventually merged with it. It is expected thai the strong wake will cause instability during takeoff and landing.

  • Lipids in microalgae are energy-rich compounds and considered as an attractive feedstock for biodiesel production. To redirect carbon flux from competing pathways to the fatty acid synthesis pathway of Tetraselmis sp., we used three types of chemical inhibitors that can block the starch synthesis pathway or photorespiration, under nitrogen-sufficient and nitrogen-deficient conditions. The starch synthesis pathway in chloroplasts and the cytosol can be inhibited by 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea and 1,2-cyclohexane diamine tetraacetic acid (CDTA), respectively. Degradation of glycine into ammonia during photorespiration was blocked by aminooxyacetate (AOA) to maintain biomass concentration. Inhibition of starch synthesis pathways in the cytosol by CDTA increased fatty acid productivity by 27% under nitrogen deficiency, whereas the blocking of photorespiration in mitochondria by AOA was increased by 35% under nitrogen-sufficient conditions. The results of this study indicate that blocking starch or photorespiration pathways may redirect the carbon flux to fatty acid synthesis.

  • An oxygen sensor installed in vehicle exhaust systems enables to measure the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas, in which the measured data are collected and analyzed in ECU(Engine Control Unit). The oxygen sensor is exposed to the high speed exhaust gas at high temperature circumstance, so that protection caps are required not only to protect the susceptible measuring part, but also to provide the real time measurement without time delay. In this study, a new oxygen sensor with one protection cap was proposed, and the CFD analysis was carried out in order to compare the performance characteristics, such as flow speed and ratio of AOA(Age of Air), for the conventional and new oxygen sensor. The numerical results of CFD analysis provided the flow speed of 1.34m/s and the ratio of AOA of 3.43. The similar features obtained from the numerical results showed that the new oxygen sensor guarantees the same performance characteristics of the conventional ones.

  • In this paper, we use the OFDM transmission channel model applied to the MIMO antennas considering spatial propagation property to evaluate and investigate the ergodic capacity of the channel. Specially, we have applied our results to 3GPP TR 25.99 V1.1.0 case 1 LOS off channel description and calculated ergodic capacity with parameters, cluster angle spread and angle of arrival(AOA). Our results show that as the cluster angle spread increase the channel capacity increase until 35 degree, but for more than 35 degree channel capacity does not improved.

  • Estimation of unknown signal parameters with sensor array measurements has been investigated quite extensively. Also, there has been in recent years an explosive increase in the number of mobile users in wireless cellular systems, thus contributing to growing levels of multi-user interference. To overcome this problem, application of adaptive antenna array techniques to further increase the channel capacity has been discussed. In this paper, a new model of locally scattered signals in the vicinity of mobiles is proposed by defining the mean steering vector and is manipulated mathematically for several distributions. Under this model an estimation method of the angle of arrival(AOA) is investigated based on a weighted subspace fitting(WSF) technique. Statistical analysis and simulations are also considered.

  • Chalk River Unidentified Deposits (CRUDs) were collected from the Korean pressurized water reactor (PWR) plant (A, B, and C) where the axial offset anomaly (AOA) occurred. AOA, also known as a CRUD-induced power shift, is one of the key issues in maintaining stable PWR plant operations. CRUDs were sampled from spent nuclear fuel rods and analyzed using an electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA). This paper describes the characteristics of boron-deposits from the CRUDs sampled from twice-burnt assemblies from the Korean PWR. The primary coolant of a PWR contains boron and lithium. It is known that boron deposition occurs in a thick CRUD layer under substantial sub-cooled nucleate boiling (SNB). The results of this study are summarized as follows. Boron was not found at the locations where the existence was confirmed in simulated CRUDs, in other words, the cladding and CRUD boundaries. Nevertheless, we clearly observed the presence of boron and confirmed that boron existed as a lump in crystalline form. In addition, the study confirmed that CRUD existed in a crystal form with a unique size of about 10 ㎛.

  • Existing radio positioning systems have a drawback that the attitude of user's tag is difficult to be determined. Although forward link angle of arrival (FLAOA) technology that uses measurements of array antenna arranged in a tag among the angle of arrival (AOA) technologies can estimate attitude and positioning of tags, it cannot extend the estimated results into three-dimensional (3D) results due to complex non-linear model displayed because of the effects of 3D positioning and attitude in tags. This paper proposed a radio navigation technique that determines 3D attitude and positioning via FLAOA / time of arrival (TOA) integration. According to the order of determining attitude and positioning, two integration techniques were proposed. To analyze the performance of the proposed technique, MATLAB-based simulations were used to verify the performance. The simulation results showed that the first proposed method, TOA-FLAOA integrated technique, showed about 0.15 m of positioning error, and $2-3^{\circ}$ of attitude error performances regardless of the positioning space size whereas the second method, differenced FLAOA-TOA integrated technique, revealed a problem that a positioning error became larger as the size of the positioning space became larger.
