모바일 전자기기의 열점 제어를 위한 수평형 박막 열전 냉각 소자의 모사 해석 (Simulation of Horizontal Thin-film Thermoelectric Cooler for the Mobile Electronics Thermal Management)

  • 본 연구에서는 수평형 열전 냉각 소자의 열전 냉각 성능 극대화를 위해 모사 해석을 수행하였다. ANSYS Workbench의 Thermal-Electric 프로그램을 활용한 모사 해석을 진행하였으며 해당 프로그램은 열전 효과에 초점이 맞춰 있어 보다 정확하고 효과적인 모사 해석이 가능하다. 수평형 열전 냉각 소자는 n-type의 $Bi_2Te_3$와 p-type의 $Sb_2Te_3$ 및 Au 금속 전극으로 가정하였으며, Joule 발열이 소자 중앙 하부에서 발생되는 것으로 가정하였다. 모사 해석을 통해 최대 $13^{\circ}C$의 냉각 효과를 확인하였으며, 이런 기하학적인 변수들로부터 냉각 성능을 최적화 할 수 있는 디자인을 제시하였다.

  • In this study, a numerical simulations were conducted to analyze the phase change behavior of a liquid hydrogen storage container. The effects of gravity direction and hydrogen filling rate on boil-off gas (BOG) in the storage container were investigated. The study employed the volume of fluid, which is the phase change analysis model provided by ANSYS Fluent (ANSYS, Canonsburg, PA, USA), to investigate the sloshing phenomenon inside the liquefied hydrogen fuel tank. Considering the transient analysis time, two-dimensional simulation were carried out to examine the characteristics of the flow and thermal fields. The results indicated that the thermal flow characteristics and BOG phenomena inside the two-dimensional liquefied hydrogen storage container were significantly influenced by changes in gravity direction and hydrogen filling rate.

  • Along with global environmental issues, the size of the electric vehicle market has recently skyrocketed. Various efforts have been made to extend mileage, one of the biggest problems of the electric vehicles, and development of batteries with high energy densities has led to exponential growth in mileage and performance. However, proper thermal management is essential because these high-performance batteries are affected by continuous heat generation and can cause fires due to thermal runaway phenomena. Therefore, thermal management of the battery is studied through the optimal design of the guide vanes, while utilizing the existing battery casing to ensure the safety of the electric vehicles. A battery from T-company, one of a manufacturer of the electric vehicles, was used for the research, and the commercial CFD software, ANSYS CFX V20.2, was used for analysis. The guide vanes were derived through optimal design based on a genetic algorithm with flow analysis. The optimized guide vanes show improved heat removal performance.

  • As computer power increased, the system with complex phenomenon has been analyzed with the help of CAE software which can handle the coupled physics, such as electromagnetic, structure, thermal and fluid physics. To predict the electromagnetic repulsion force and the temperature distribution of an air circuit breaker with electric contact mechanism, ANSYS/EMAG, FLOTRAN can be used. Although some assumptions and simplifications were introduced to simulate the model, results from the computational model were in good agreement with actual measurements obtained from experiments.

  • The main objective of this study is to analyze the heat transfer characteristics in the electric melting furnace. Local temperatures are measured at various location in the furnace using the B-type thermocouples. In this paper, the numerical simulation was performed using the ANSYS software, and compared with experimental data. Mathematical heat transfer model for the prediction of temperature distribution has been developed by considering the thermal radiation among heating element, crucible and insulating materials. The results show that the temperature distributions predicted by the numerical simulation agree with experimental results comparatively.

  • Outer rotor type in-wheel Blushless DC Motor(BLDCM) for three-wheeled electric vehicle is researched. In-wheel system is to drive the electric vehicle without mechanical transmission, shaft, differential gears or other mechanical system. The motor is designed considering the performance requirements and drive modes of the vehicle. The determined dimensions as well as the slot and rotor pole are simulated by magnetic and thermal finite element analysis and ansys workbench to analyze the performance and heating of the motor. In order to verify the performance characteristics of the proposed motor, the experiment tests are executed and satisfy well the requirements.

전기자동차용 부탄 연료 복합열원 히팅시스템의 열적 성능에 관한 수치적 연구 (Numerical Study on Thermal Performances of Multi Heat Source Heating System Using Butane for Electric Vehicle)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 복합열원을 이용하는 전기자동차용 부탄 연소식 히팅 시스템의 열적 성능을 수치적으로 연구하는 것이다. 복합열원 히팅 시스템은 승차공간 난방을 목적으로 하는 공기 가열부와 배터리 열관리를 위한 냉각수 가열부로 구성되어 있으며, 각 열원별 열적 성능을 분석하기 위하여 상용 수치해석 프로그램인 ANSYS CFX를 이용하여 공기 및 냉각수 유량변화에 따른 각 열원별 토출 온도를 도출하고 난방 용량을 계산하였다. 수치해석을 통하여 도출된 각 열원별 토출 온도는 이론적으로 계산한 토출 온도와 비교하였고, 약 0.15% 이하의 오차를 나타내었다. 결론적으로 외부공기의 유량을 0.005, 0.01, 0.015 kg/s로 증가시킬 경우 승차공간으로 유입되는 공기 온도는 감소하였으며, 배터리 열관리용으로 배출되는 냉각수 온도는 증가하였다. 또한 냉각수 유량을 0.005, 0.01, 0.015 kg/s로 증가시킬 경우 토출되는 난방 공기와 냉각수 온도는 감소하였다. 더불어 배터리 열관리를 위한 최적의 냉각수 온도와 승차공간을 위한 높은 난방 용량을 만족하기 위한 공기 및 냉각수 유량 조건은 각 0.01 kg/s 와 0.015 kg/s로 나타났다.

  • The suspension insulators are subjected to harsh environment in service for a long time. Long term reliability of the insulators is required for both mechanical and electrical performances. We studied an analysing method to find out a deformation of brittle porcelain with a thermal expansion of cement for suspension insulator. These simulation analysis and experimental results show that cement volume growths affect severely to be mechanical failure ageing.

Towards a reduced order model of battery systems: Approximation of the cooling plate

  • In order to analyse the thermal performance of battery systems in electric vehicles complex simulation models with high computational cost are necessary. Using reduced order methods, real-time applicable model can be developed and used for on-board monitoring. In this work a data driven model of the cooling plate as part of the battery system is built and derived from a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. The aim of this paper is to create a meta model of the cooling plate that estimates the temperature at the boundary for different heat flow rates, mass flows and inlet temperatures of the cooling fluid. In order to do so, the cooling plate is simulated in a CFD software (ANSYS Fluent ®). A data driven model is built using the design of experiment (DOE) and various approximation methods in Optimus ®. The model can later be combined with a reduced model of the thermal battery system. The assumption and simplification introduced in this paper enable an accurate representation of the cooling plate with a real-time applicable model.

Research on flow characteristics in supercritical water natural circulation: Influence of heating power distribution

  • There are many parameters that affect the natural circulation flow, such as height difference, heating power size, pipe diameter, system pressure and inlet temperature and so on. In general analysis the heating power is often regarded as a uniform distribution. The ANSYS-CFX numerical analysis software was used to analyze the flow heat transfer of supercritical water under different heating power distribution conditions. The distribution types of uniform, power increasing, power decreasing and sine function are investigated. Through the analysis, it can be concluded that different power distribution has a great influence on the flow of natural circulation if the total power of heating is constant. It was found that the peak flow of supercritical water natural circulation is maximal when the distribution of heating power is monotonically decreasing, minimal when it is monotonically increasing, and moderate at uniform or the sine type of heating. The simulation results further reveal the supercritical water under different heat transfer conditions on its flow characteristics. It can provide certain theory reference and system design for passive residual heat removal system about supercritical water.
