  • In a balanced factorial design with a nested factor where crossed factors as well as a nested factor exist simultaneously, powers of the rank transformed FR statistic for testing the main, nested and interaction effects are superior to those of the parametric F statistic. In heavy tailed distributions such as exponential and double exponential distributions, powers of the FR statistic show much higher level than those of the F statistic. Further powers of the F and FR statistic for testing the main effect show the highest level in an absolute size as compared with powers of the F and FR statistic for testing the nested and interaction effects. However powers of the FR statistic for testing the nested and interaction effects rather than the main effect are greater in a relative size than powers of F statistic for the all population distributions.

  • When interactions are not present in a three-way layout, the lim-iting null distribution of the F statistic for testing main effects when applied to the rank-score transformed data is the same as the limiting null distribution of the usual F statistic when applied to the normal data. The simulation results exhibit that the rank transform test is robust with respect to significance level and powerful for testing main effects in a three-way factorial experiment.

  • In a two-stage two-level balanced nested design, type I error rates for the parametric tests and the rank transformed tests for the main effects and the nested effects are in overall similar to each other. Furthermore, powers for the rank transformed statistic for the main effects and the nested effects in a two-stage two-level balanced nested design are generally superior to powers for the parametric statistic When the effect size and the sample size are increased, we can find that powers increase for the parametric statistic and the rank transformed statistic are dramatically improved. Especially for the case of the fixed effects in the asymmetric distributions such as an exponential distribution, powers for the rank transformed tests are quite high rather than powers for the parametric tests.

  • The test statistic in ANOVA tests has a single or doubly noncentral F distribution and the noncentral F distribution is applied to the calculation of the power functions of tests of general linear hypotheses. In this paper. the evaluation of the cumulative function of the single noncentral F distribution is applied to the neural network theory. The neural network consists of the multi-layer perceptron structure and learning process has the algorithm of the backpropagation. Numerical comparisons are made between the results obtained by neural network theory and the Patnaik's values.

  • The test statistic in ANOVA tests has a single or doubly noncentral F distribution and the noncentral F distribution is applied to the calculation of the power functions of tests of general linear hypotheses. Although various approximations of noncentral F distribution are suggested, they are troublesome to compute. In this paper, the calculation of noncentral F distribution is applied to the neural network theory, to solve the computation problem. The neural network consists of the multi-layer perceptron structure and learning process has the algorithm of the backpropagation. Using fables and figs, comparisons are made between the results obtained by neural network theory and the Patnaik's values. Regarding of accuracy and calculation, the results by neural network are efficient than the Patnaik's values.

  • Purpose: This study was a descriptive correlation study to increase understanding of, and relationships among critical thinking disposition, clinical decision making and job satisfaction of cancer center nurses. Method: The participants in this study were 150 nurses working in one cancer center located in Gyeonggi Province. The statistic program, SPSS WIN17.0 was used for data analysis and data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation. Results: The critical thinking disposition of the participants showed statistically significant differences according to areas of practice (F=4.426, p=.005), and current position (F=9.346, p=.000). For clinical decision making of the participants, statistically significant differences were found according to current position (F=10.667, p=.000). Furthermore, for job satisfaction, there were statistically significant differences according to income (F=6.779, p=.002), length of career (F=2.701, p=.033) and current position (F=5.423, p=.005). There were significant positive correlations for critical thinking disposition with clinical decision making, and with job satisfaction. Conclusions: The results of the study indicate that to improve clinical decision making and job satisfaction of cancer center nurses, it is necessary to increase critical thinking disposition. To make this change, appropriate programs are needed to increase critical thinking and clinical decision making of general cancer center nurses.

  • As Korea has approached the aging society, older Koreans have become an important force in restaurant sales today. To succeed with this silver market, it is important for restaurant managers to know who they are and which factor influence the older Koreans' eating-out decision making process. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the elderly consumers financial independency on restaurant selection process. Data were collected from 178 older consumers above 55 years old and analyzed using the descriptive statistic analysis, MANOVA, and one-way ANOVA. The results showed that the elderly consumers financial independency significantly influenced the decision making process in determining where they eat out Significant differences were found between high income group and low income group in the Problem Recognition Step(Wilks' Lambda=0.776, F=3.796), Information Search Step(Wilks' Lambda=0.779, F=2.959), Alternative Evaluation Step (I :Wilks' Lambda=0.835, F=1.748/ II :Wilks' Lambda=0.764, F=3.212), and Purchase Decision Step(Wilks' Lambda=0.849, F=2.412), except the Post-Purchase Behavior(Wilks' Lambda=0.933, F=1.179). The more financially independent older consumers were, the more directly they were involved in the eating out decision making process. Older consumers with higher income and more personal property were likely to 'propose to eat out by themselves'(F=10.986), to obtain restaurant information from the 'printed materials'(F=9.707), to consider 'convenient location' as most important factor when they eat out(F=5.594), and to go to 'family restaurant'(F=7.067), 'Japanese restaurant'(F=7.391) and 'fine dining restaurants'(F-=6.382). In conclusion, we found that the elderly consumers financial independency did influence the eating-out decision making process. Considering that older Korean will become a financially independent consumer and will be eating away from home more often, food service operations should actively position themselves for this market and develop the market-driven menus and services to meet their needs and expectations.

The results showed that the elderly consumers' education level significantly influenced the decision making process in determining where to eat out. Significant differences were found in the Problem Recognition Step(Wilks' Lambda=0.817, F=2.991), Information Search Step(Wilks' Lambda=0828, F=2.218), Alternative Evaluation Step II(Wilks' Lambda=0.741, F=3.596), Purchase Decision Step(Wilks' Lambda=0.859, F=2.223), and the Post-Purchase Behavior(Wilks' Lambda=0.885, F=1.780). The higher education level was, the more directly involved in the eating out decision process. The elderly consumers with university education were likely to 'propose to eat out by themselves'(F=9.346), to obtain restaurant information from the 'printed materials'(F=7.452), to go to 'family restaurant'(F=9.057), 'Japanese restaurant'(F=8.7891) and 'fine dining restaurants'(F=3.936), and to directly express their emotion when they had complaints about restaurant service(F=3.206). In conclusion, older Koreans will become more healthy and wealthy which means the dining out activity will be an important part of their life to socialize with people. Therefore, food service operations should consider the elderly consumers' needs and expectation of restaurant services and actively position themselves for this new market segment.

  • This study was designed to identify the relation between the Perceived Social Support and the Self-care Agency of high school students in a rural area. The subjects for this study were 250 students living in Chonnam province: among first grade, second grade and third grade students were 98, 89 and 63 respectively. The data were collected during the period from April 2 to 4, 2001. The instruments used in this study were the Generally Perceived Social Support Scale developed by Park, J. W.(1985) and Self-Care Agency Questionnarie developed by Deneys(1981). The data were analyzed by descriptive statistic, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation using the SAS PC+ Program. The results were as follows: 1. The mean score of the Perceived Social Support was 3.19. 2. The mean score of the Self-care Agency was 2.65. 3. There was a significant differences in school year(F=3.11, p=.046), educational level of the father(F=3.41, p=.035) that of the mother(F=4.07, p=.019), and economic status(F=8.99, p=.000), school performance(F=16.37, p=.000) from Perceived Social Support between general characteristics. 4. There was a significant differences in economic status(F=4.55, p=.004), school performance(F=6.72, p=.002) from self care agency between general characteristics. 5. The relation between the score of the Perceived Social Support and Self-care Agency was significant(r=.49, p=.0001). The relation between the score of the direct Perceived Social Support and Self-care Agency was significant(r=.50, p=.0001) and the relation between the score of the indirect Perceived Social Support and Self-care Agency was also significant(r=.40, p=.0001). In conclusion, it was found that higher score of the Social Support was a higher level of the Self-care Agency, especially the direct Perceived Social Support. The score of the Social Support and Self-care Agency was significantly differentiated according to economic status and school performance.

  • Acid-base titration experiments were carried out using the same sample to obtain a direct comparison of analysis results between a new titrator and conventional Spectrator (SPT) titrators. This allowed the confirmation of an endpoint both by spectroscopic detection and by conventional titrators (automatic burette (ABT) and autotitrator (ATT)). Statistical analysis was performed on the measured values (endpoints) obtained using different titrators, to assess their differences by comparison of straightness, equivalence, ANOVA, F-test, and t-test results. The coefficients of determination, confirmed by straightness, were all >0.999. Thus, the null hypothesis that there was no statistical difference could not be rejected. The Bland-Altman analysis method was used to confirm agreement with the new experimental method. No discrepancy was found in the measured values obtained using different titrators used in this study.
