  • The optimization of cooling system parameters for designing injection mold is very important to acquire the highest part quality. In this paper, the integration of computer simulations of injection molding and Analysis of Variance(ANOVA) with orthogonal array was used as a design tool to optimize the cooling system parameters aimed at minimizing the part warpage. The design optimizer was applied to find the optimum levels of cooling system parameters for a dustpan. This optimization resulted in more uniform temperature distribution over the part and significant reduction of a part warpage, showing the capability of present method as an effective design tool. The whole optimization process was performed systematically in a proper number of cooling simulations. The design optimizer can be utilized effectively in the industry practice for designing mold cooling system with less cost and time.

  • In machining operation, the quality of surface finish is an important factor for many turned products. In this paper, surface quality in turning machining considering angle variation has been investigated. To reach this goal, surface quality turning experiments are carried out according to cutting conditions with angle variation. The variable cutting conditions are cutting speed, feed rate and taper angle of workpiece. The surface roughness was measured and the effects of cutting conditions were analyzed by the method of analysis of variance (ANOVA). From the experimental results and ANOVA, it is found that a better surface roughness can be obtained as decreasing feed rate, increasing cutting speed. Taper angle variation has been more influenced by feed rate and cutting speed.

  • The objective of present study is to investigate the effect of granulated blast furnace slag (GBS) as partial substitution of natural sand on behaviour of cement mortar. For this, the methods of factorial design with water cement (w/c) ratio and incorporation percentages of GBS as replacement of natural fine aggregate i.e., GBS(%) as factors are followed. The levels of factor w/c ratio are fixed at 0.4, 0.45, and 0.5 and the levels of factor GBS(%) are kept fixed as 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%. The compressive strength (CS) of mortar after 3, 7, 14, 28, 56 and 90 days, and water absorption (WA) are chosen as responses of the study. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) of experimental results has been carried out and those are illustrated by ANOVA tables, main effect and interaction plots. The results of study depict that the selected factors have substantial influence on the strength and WA of mortar. However, the interaction of factors has no substantial impact on CS and WA of mixes.

  • In the circumstance of standing out the climate change issue, the purpose of this study is to compare the efficiency of offshore and coastal fisheries according to whether or not greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are considered, and then to present policy alternatives based on the analysis results. For analysis, the traditional data envelopment analysis (DEA), the slacks-based measure (SBM) and the SBM-undesirable models were used, and robust analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Wilcoxon Signed-rank tests were performed. As a result, the study showed that the average efficiency of fisheries decreased as the traditional DEA extended to the SBM model considering the slack and the SBM-undesirable model including the GHG emissions. Specifically, the average efficiency of the traditional DEA model, SBM model, and SBM-undesirable model was analyzed as 0.7350, 0.5820 and 0.4976 respectively. In addition, the results of the robust ANOVA and Wilcoxon Signed-rank tests all showed that there are statistically significant differences in efficiency between offshore and coastal fisheries as well as among traditional DEA, SBM and SBM-undesirable models. As a policy alternative to the analysis, it was suggested that to improve the efficiency of coastal and offshore fisheries, it is necessary to actively implement the new fishing vessel project and develop smart and electric hybrid fishing vessels.

  • This study is to estimate the factor weights of the reasons for decreases in marine fishery resources using the Analytical Hierarchy Process. Furthermore, it classifies 20 fishes under a fishery resource recovery plan into various groups of fishes according to these factor weights using the non-hierarchial cluster analysis. The factors of decreases in marine fishery resources are identified as bio-ecological, technology-system, economic-business, and fishing village-society factors. Two of the most important factors of decreases in resource are turned out to be the economic-business and bio-ecological factors, estimated as 31% and 30% respectively. The technology-system and fishing village-society factors are estimated as 21% and 18% respectively. The study utilizes non-hierarchical cluster analysis in order to classify 20 fishes into 2, 3, and 4 groups. K-means cluster analysis is applied for grouping in conjunction with ANOVA to identify statistical differences in factors. Once again, the economic-business and bio-economic factors play main role in grouping 2-groups of fishes case. The third group of fishes in addition to the previous 2 groups of fishes appears as those 4 factors of decrease evenly play about the same role at a 3-groups of fishes case. Finally, the economic-business and bio-economic factors are turned out to be evenly important in the 4th group once there are 4-groups of fishes.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the result of one-way ANOVA with that of cross-correlation time series analysis in order to evaluate physiologic responses of premature infants to human voices. Methods: Four premature infants born prior to 32 weeks gestational age were included in the study. The Gould 4000TA Recording System recorded the preterm infant's heart and respiratory rate while they were listening to a pre-recorded voice recording. Each infant listened to both male and female voices (1 min each) at each testing session. Results: The results of both one-wayANOVA and cross-correlation time series analysis using heart and respiratory rate data were not consistent in some of premature infants. A cross-correlation time series analysis revealed that the responses of premature infant to vocal stimulation occurred at a varying number of seconds after the stimulus was presented and lasted for over 20-30 sec. Conclusion: The results indicate that a time series analysis can provide more detailed information on the rapidly changing physiologic status of premature infant to the auditory stimulus. In addition, the results provide an insight into an auditory responsitivity of premature infants to a naturally occurring sound, the human voice, in the neonatal intensive care unit.
