  • This paper presents and discusses an implementation of the GPU shifted sorting method to find approximate k nearest neighbors which executes within "warp", the minimum execution unit in GPU parallel architecture. Also, this paper presents the comparison results with other two common nearest neighbor searching methods, GPU-based kd-tree and ANN (Approximate Nearest Neighbor) library. The proposed implementation focuses on the cases when k is small, i.e. 2, 4, 8, and 16, which are handled efficiently within warp to consider it is very common for applications to handle small k's. Also, this paper discusses optimization ways to implementation by improving memory management in a loop for the CUB open library and adopting CUDA commands which are supported by GPU hardware. The proposed implementation shows more than 16-fold speed-up against GPU-based other methods in the tests, implying that the improvement would become higher for more larger input data.

  • Wind power tower has been used to augment the performance of VAWT (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine). However, inappropriately designed wind power tower could reduce the performance of VAWT. Hence, an optimization study was conducted on a wind power tower. Six design variables were selected, such as the outer radius and the inner radius of the guide wall, the adoption of the splitter, the inner radius of the splitter, the number of the guide wall and the circumferential angle. For the objective function, the periodic averaged torque obtained at the VAWT was selected. In the optimization, Design of Experiment (DOE), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) have been applied in order to avoid a localized optimized result. The ANN has been continuously improved after finishing the optimization process at each generation. The performance of the VAWT was improved more than twice when it operated within the optimized wind power tower compared to that obtained at a standalone.

  • With the advent of the low interest rate era, many investors are flocking to the stock market. In the past stock market, people invested in stocks labor-intensively through company analysis and their own investment techniques. However, in recent years, stock investment using artificial intelligence and data has been widely used. The success rate of stock prediction through artificial intelligence is currently not high, so various artificial intelligence models are trying to increase the stock prediction rate. In this study, we will look at various artificial intelligence models and examine the pros and cons and prediction rates between each model. This study investigated as stock prediction programs using artificial intelligence artificial neural network (ANN), deep learning or hierarchical learning (DNN), k-nearest neighbor algorithm(k-NN), convolutional neural network (CNN), recurrent neural network (RNN), and LSTMs.

  • Rock mass classification results have a great influence on construction schedule and budget as well as tunnel stability in tunnel design. A total of 3,526 tunnels have been constructed in Korea and the associated techniques in tunnel design and construction have been continuously developed, however, not many studies have been performed on how to assess rock mass quality and grade more accurately. Thus, numerous cases show big differences in the results according to inspectors' experience and judgement. Hence, this study aims to suggest a more reliable rock mass classification (RMR) model using machine learning algorithms, which is surging in availability, through the analyses based on various rock and rock mass information collected from boring investigations. For this, 11 learning parameters (depth, rock type, RQD, electrical resistivity, UCS, Vp, Vs, Young's modulus, unit weight, Poisson's ratio, RMR) from 13 local tunnel cases were selected, 337 learning data sets as well as 60 test data sets were prepared, and 6 machine learning algorithms (DT, SVM, ANN, PCA & ANN, RF, XGBoost) were tested for various hyperparameters for each algorithm. The results show that the mean absolute errors in RMR value from five algorithms except Decision Tree were less than 8 and a Support Vector Machine model is the best model. The applicability of the model, established through this study, was confirmed and this prediction model can be applied for more reliable rock mass classification when additional various data is continuously cumulated.

  • Landslides are caused by complex interaction among a large number of interrelated factors such as topography, geology, forest and soils. In this study, a comparative study was carried out using fuzzy relationship method and artificial neural network to evaluate landslide susceptibility. For landslide susceptibility mapping, maps of the landslide occurrence locations, slope angle, aspect, curvature, lithology, soil drainage, soil depth, soil texture, forest type, forest age, forest diameter and forest density were constructed from the spatial data sets. In fuzzy relation analysis, the membership values for each category of thematic layers have been determined using the cosine amplitude method. Then the integration of different thematic layers to produce landslide susceptibility map was performed by Cartesian product operation. In artificial neural network analysis, the relative weight values for causative factors were determined by back propagation algorithm. Landslide susceptibility maps prepared by two approaches were validated by ROC(Receiver Operating Characteristic) curve and AUC(Area Under the Curve). Based on the validation results, both approaches show excellent performance to predict the landslide susceptibility but the performance of the artificial neural network was superior in this study area.

  • There has been continuous efforts to manage the water resources for the required water quality criterion at river channel in Korea. However, we could not obtain the partial improvement only for the point source pollutant such as, wastewater from urban and industrial site through the water quality management. Therefore, it is strongly needed that the Best Management Practice(BMP) throughout the river basin for water quality management including non-point source pollutant loads. This problem should be resolved by recognizing the non-point source pollutant loads from upstream river basin to the outlet depends on the land use and soil type characteristic of the river basin using the computer simulation by distributed parameter model based on the detailed investigation and the application of Geographic Information System(GIS). Used in this study, Annualized Agricultural Non-Point Source Pollution (AnnAGNPS) model is a tool suitable for long term evaluation of the effects of BMPs and can be used for un gauged watershed simulation of runoff and sediment yield. Now applications of model are in progress. So we just describe the limited result. However If well have done modeling and have investigated of propriety of model, well achieve our final goal of this study.

  • The aim of this study is to develop the methodology which enables to identify the mechanical properties of element such as stress intensity factor by using the AE parameters. Considering the multivariate and nonlinear properties of AE parameters such as ringdown count, rise time, energy, event duration and peak amplitude from fatigue cracks of machine element the principal component regression(PCR) and artificial neural network(ANN) models for the estimation of stress intensity factor were developed and validated. The AE parameters were found to be very significant to estimate the stress intensity factor. Since the statistical values including correlation coefficients, standard mr of calibration, standard error of prediction and bias were stable, the PCR and ANN models for stress intensity factor were very robust. The performance of ANN model for unknown data of stress intensity factor was better than that of PCR model.

  • This study investigated the applicability of the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) technique for prediction of tunnel behavior. For training data collection, a series of finite element analyses were conducted for actual tunnel project site. Using the data, optimimzed ANNs were developed through a sensitivity study on internal parameters. The developed ANNs can make tunneling related predictions such as tunnel crown settlement, shotcrete lining stress, ground surface settlement, and groundwater inflow rate. The results indicated that the developed ANNs can be used as an effective and efficient tool for tunnelling related prediction in practical tunneling situations.

  • There are few representative humanoid robots including Japanese ASIMO from Honda and HUBO from KAIST. We cannot consider ASIMO and HUBO the perfect humanoid robots, however. The basic principles when developing humanoid robot is to make them to work in a similar way as human's movement of arm. In this paper, we proposed method of designing humanoid robotic arms based on the morphological.eurological analysis of human's arm tor robot's arm to work in a similar way as human's ann, and we also implemented arm movement control system to humanoids robot by using SERCOS communication.
