Design of Integrated Database Program for Optimal Operation of Distribution Automation System (배전지능화시스템 최적 운영을 위한 통합 데이터베이스 프로그램 설계)

  • In the existing distribution automation system, the database is managed by each distribution office. But there is a high possibility to happened a problem during a fault processing because the representation of the connection switches between distribution offices are complicated. In addition, if a distribution office will be going to collapse due to disaster, for example, a big fire or earthquake, its own database may be lost. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to have a structure of an integrated database management from an integration center to under the distribution office. To do this, the integration center must store and manage it as the database using the own office code.

  • Recently, database technologies have been used commonly. But, ordinary technologies aren't suitable to construct a complicated database such as a classical literature database or an archaeological relic's database. Because this kinds of data are semi-structured data that doesn't have regular structures, database schema can't be defined before databases. We have proposed DREAM model for semi-structured databases. In this model, a database consists of five elements and the model has operations similar to operation of set theory. And further we have introduced dynamic schema "shape" showing structure of each element. We have already realized a prototype of DBMS adopting DREAM model (DREAM DBMS) and constructing function of shapes. However, shape is imperfect to describe database structures because it can't explain nested structures of elements. In this paper, we will profuse a "shape graph"that is dynamic schema showing database structures more exactly and extend the DREAM DBMS. Further we will evaluate the performance of constructing function of shapes and shape graphs.

  • When blockchain technology, which shows various applicability, is utilized as a component of a database system, the characteristics of open verification and integrity/transparency of blockchain technology can bring new functionalities or enhanced results to the existing database system. However, when applying this blockchain technology to a database system, the cost versus expected effect in various performance perspectives must be evaluated. These costs include execution time and required storage space, and the performance of the converged system may vary in analysis method depending on the configuration method of the characteristics of the blockchain. This paper aims to propose an analysis model for the entire architecture by considering aspects that are not considered in the performance analysis models of database systems and the unique characteristics of blockchains. In doing so, we are trying to build a theoretical framework as an important conceptual technique that should be considered in the evaluation process of the performance results that can be obtained through the utilization of blockchain components in database systems. What we hope is that this work is expected to provide a useful foundation for researchers interested in the convergence of database systems and blockchain technology in order to construct a system with new future functionalities.

  • The deterministic update method of intensional predicates in a parallel deductive database that deductive database is distributed in a parallel computer architecture in needed. Using updated data from the deterministic update method, a strategy for parallel evaluation of intensional predicates is required. The paper is concerned with an approach to updating parallel deductive database in which very insertion or deletion can be performed in a deterministic way, and an extended parallel semi-naive evaluation algorithm in a parallel computer architecture. After presenting an approach to updating intensional predicates and strategy for parallel evaluation, its implementation is discussed. A parallel deductive database consists of the set of facts being the extensional database and the set of rules being the intensional database. We assume that these sets are distributed in each processor, research how to update intensional predicates and evaluate using the update method. The parallel architecture for the deductive database consists of a set of processors and a message passing network to interconnect these processors.

Development of an Intelligent Program for Diagnosis of Electrical Fire Causes (전기화재 원인진단을 위한 지능형 프로그램 개발)

  • This paper presents an intelligent computer system, which can easily diagnose electrical fire causes, without the help of human experts of electrical fires diagnosis. For this system, a database is built with facts and rules driven from real electrical fires, and an intellectual database system which even a beginner can diagnose fire causes has been developed, named as an Electrical Fire Causes Diagnosis System : EFCDS. The database system has adopted, as an inference engine, a mixed reasoning approach which is constituted with the rule-based reasoning and the case-based reasoning. The system for a reasoning model was implemented using Delphi 3, one of program development tools, and Paradox is used as a database building tool. To verify effectiveness and performance of this newly developed diagnosis system, several simulated fire examples were tested and the causes of fire examples were detected effectively by this system. Additional researches will be needed to decide the minimal significant level of the solution and the weighting level of important factors.

  • Airworthiness is a term used to dictate whether an aircraft is worthy of safe flight. It is illegal in most countries to fly an aircraft without first obtaining an airworthiness certificate from the responsible government agency. For developing an aircraft, the design modifications and upgrades are considered a high financial risk proposal for most Program Managers(PMs). However Design-to-Certification Integrated System can be a great help in achieving a good design solution in an acceptable amount of time and flight test. In this paper, we present a method to construct database for the Development of Design-to-Certification Integrated System. By using this database, the human designer could manage and find the regulation and requirements related with his concern effectively.

  • We propose an XML document storage system, called XDMS (XML Document Management System), by using an object-relational DBMS. XDMS generates object database schema from XML Schema and stores the XML documents in an object-relational database. SAX parser is used for understanding the structure of the XML documents, and XDMS transforms the documents into objects in the database. Experiment shows that object-relational databases provide more efficient storage and query model compared with relational databases.

  • In this study, we analyzed applicability of object database, designed the concept model based on object-oriented idea for measurement data management, and applied the design model to object database. The concept model composes three sub models Infrastructure managing information model, Infrastructure measurement data model, and Measurement unit model. The process to expand measurement data of new type was executed easily without changing database schema in object database. Therefore, applicability of new technology to infrastructures for building a safety management network of road bridges could be increased with object database system.

  • This reserch was to develop database software in order to handle a lot of clinical nursing data with nursing diagnoses, related factors, defining characteristics, nursing interventions, nursing activities and nursing outcomes. MS Access2000 and SQL was selected to use a general purpose database logic with an efficiency. MS Visual Basic 6.0 was used to construct the circumstance of Graphic User Interface. The Linkage Database of abdominal surgery patients was constructed from the clinical data and questionnaire. This database system could add related factors, defining characteristics, nursing activities in the database and analyze the statistical results through Access query. In the final stage, end-users satisfaction analysis using 5 points Likert scale was dong with the response of using the database system. The accuracy/trustworthiness of the database system was verified with the highest average scores as 4.42 and also, the efficiency as 4.21, user friendly function as 4.1.

  • A primary concern of physical database design has been efficient retrieval and update of a record because predictable performance of a DBMS is indispensable to time-critical missions. To maintain such phenomenal performance, database manages often spends more than or as much as the goal of an organization can warrant. The motivation of this research stems from the fact that even predictable performance of a physical database can be hampered by stochastic query processing time, physical configurations of a database, and random arrival processes of queries. They all together affect the overall performance of a DBMS. In particular, if there are queuing delays due to limited capacity or during on-peak congestion, this paper suggest to prioritize database services. A surprising finding of this paper is that such a transition from a non-priority system to a corresponding priority-based system can be Pareto-improving in the sense that no users in the system will be worse off after the transition. Thus prioritizing database services can be a viable option for efficient database management.
