  • The accuracy of sample-and-hold amplifiers (SHA's) empolying a CMOS process in limited by nonideal factors such as linearity errors of an op amp and feedthrough errors of switches. In this work, after some linearity improvement techniques for an op amp are discussed, three different SHA's for video signal processing are designed, simulated, and compared. The CMOS SHA design techniques with a 12-bit level accuracy are proposed by minimizing cirucit errors based on the simulated results.

  • The effect of ginsenosides on the adenylate cyclase and guanylate cyclase of rat brain has been studied. We have found that Rbl, Rc and one unknown ginsenoside (probably Ra) exerted reciprocal effects on adenylate cyclase and guanylate cyclase. This dual effect of ginsenosides leads us to speculate that some ginsenosides may act as regulatory agents and modulate the activities of these two enzyme systems.

  • Both glycerol-phosphate acyltransferase (GPAT) and 7.2 kb mRNAs were present at the highest level in liver. Glycerol-phosphate acyltransferase and 7.2 kb mRNA levels increased dramatically when fasted mice were refed a high carbohydrate diet. In mature 3T3-L1 adipocytes, insulin increased both glycerol-phosphate acyltransferase and 7.2kb mRNA levels 2.6 to 3-fold while dibutyryl cAMP decreased mRNA levels by 50% and 80%, respectively. These results indicate positive regulation by insulin and negative regulation by dibutyryl cAMP of both glycerol-phosphate acyltransferase and 7.2 kb mRNA.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of progesterone on the oxygen consumption of washed goat spermatozoa. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. Progesterone significantly depressed the respilation of the spermatozoa. 2. Caffeine and Di-cAMP greatly increased the oxygen consumption of the spermatozoa. 3. Caffeine plus progesterone and Di-cAMP plus progesterone significantly depressed the oxygen uptake of the cells. 4. There is some indication of a relationship between progesterone and its interference with metabolic behavior of sperm.

  • The rates of absorption of carbon dioxide into aqueous solutions of 2-amino-2-methyl-1 propanol (AMP) were measured using a semibatch stirred vessel with a plane gas-liquid interface at $25^{\circ}C$. The absorption rates under the fast reaction regime were analysed using chemical absorption theory. The reaction was found to be first order with respect to both $CO_2$ and the amine.

  • Effects of various nucleotides including GMP, glnsenoslde $Rb_2$, and redoxidants on the activities of both particulate and soluble guanylate cyclase from rat brain have been studied. At the low concentra狀onto of GMP, AMP, ADP, and ATP the activity of guanylate cyclase is not substantially affected, whereas the inhibitory effects of these nucleotides on the enzyme activities are increased with the increasing concentrations of the nucleotides. Similarly, the activity of the soluble guanylate cyclase is inhibited with the increasing concentrations of the nucleotides. Inhibitory effects of GMP, AMP, ADP, and ATP on the activities of particulate guanylate cyclase and soluble guanylate cyclase is reduced in the presence of ginsenoside $Rb_2$. It is apparent broom this finding that there are seperate binding sites on the guanylate cyclase molecule specific for nucleootides and for ginsenoside $Rb_2$. $NAD^+$ shows no significant effect on the activities of particulate guanylate cyclase, whereas NADH inhibits the activities of the enzyme. The activity of particulate guanylate cyclase is slightly inhibited by iodine, whereas that of soluble gllanylate cyclase is strongly inhibited.

  • In order to investigate the effect of intracellular cyclic GMP on calcium current the whole-cell patch clamp technique with internal perfusion method was used in isolated ventricular myocytes of the rabbit. Cyclic GMP, 8-bromo-cyclic GMP, cyclic AMP, isoprenaline and forskolin were perfused into cells and their effects on calcium current were analysed by applying depolarizing step pulses of + 10 mV in amplitude far 300 msec from holding potential of - 40 mV. Not only cyclic AMP $(100\;{\mu}M)$ but also cyclic GMF $(100\;{\mu}M)$ increased the basal calcium current. 8-Bromo-cyclic GMP $(100\;{\mu}M)$, a good stimulator of the cyclic GMP-dependent protein kinase, also increased the basal calcium current and its peak amplitude of calcium current was larger than that in the presence of cyclic AMP or cyclic GMP alone. In the presence of $100\;{\mu}M$ cyclic GMP or $100\;{\mu}M$ 8-bromo-cyclic GMP, already augmented calcium current was potentiated by intracellular application of $100\;{\mu}M$ cyclic AMP or $1\;{\mu}M$ isoprenaline or $1\;{\mu}M$ forskolin. In the presence of cyclic GMP, acetylcholine reduced the calcium current only when the calcium current was increased by isoprenaline. From the above results it could be concluded that intracellular perfusion with cyclic GMP increases the basal calcium current via a mechanism involving a cyclic GMP-dependent protein kinase.

  • In this paper, absorption and reaction characteristics of low $CO_2$ and alkanolamines were investigated. As MEA concentrations increase 1, 2 and 3 wt%, $CO_2$ loadings decrease 0.34 mol-$CO_2/mol$-absorbent, 0.32 mol-$CO_2/mol$-absorbent and 0.3 mol-$CO_2/mol$-absorbent, respectively. Also, $CO_2$ loadings decrease from 0.32 mol-$CO_2/mol$-absorbent, 0.30 mol-$CO_2/mol$-absorbent and 0.28 mol-$CO_2/mol$-absorbent as AMP concentrations increase 1, 2 and 3 wt%. Experimental results with blending solutions show that $CO_2$ loading was the highest, 0.52 mol-$CO_2/mol$-absorbent, when 0.5 wt% MEA and 0.5 wt% AMP were blended.
