Artificial photosynthesis the first chapter: Light driven hydrogen generation from water

  • In the area of artificial photosynthesis, particularly for the generation of hydrogen form water, much attention has been paid on organic-inorganic hybrid system. Most of all, a dye/TiO2-combined system has been suggested and its potential utility was well manifested. However, due to its complicated nature of charge interactions in between dye and TiO2 -interface there remains a great challenge to establish the charge-activity relationship, per se light driven charge generation and recombination kinetics with respect to the amount of hydrogen produced. Further complexity of that hybrid system has been witnessed when sacrificial donor and aqueous media are considered. To unveil the operating mechanism on such a dye/TiO2-combined system, we have prepared organic dyes suitable to account for the effect of sacrificial donor as well as water interactions, and prepared the typical dye-grafted TiO2 films to investigate charge-activity relationship. Femtosecond flash photolysis clearly defined the dye effects anchored on to the TiO2 platform. In addition, photodynamic data contemplated well to the dye orientation proposed by the DFT calculations. Recent findings provide fundamental understanding on the dye-grafted TiO2 system and establish a firm background how future dye-sensitized organic-inorganic hybrid system can be designed for the light driven hydrogen generation from water.

  • 장서운영(藏書運營)의 효율성은 적은 수의 자료(資料)를 운영하면서 많은 수의 자료를 운영하는 것과 같은 이용률을 유지하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 전문도서관(專門圖書館)인 한국농촌경제연구원(韓國農村經濟硏究院) 자료실의 장서를 평가하여 효율적인 이용자 봉사와 앞으로의 장서개발(藏書開發)을 위한 기초자료를 제시하고자 한다. 연구방법(硏究方法)은 통계에 의한 분석으로 자료의 이용조사와 상대이용분석, 인용리스트에 의한 소장유무 분석, 설문지 방법을 사용하였다.

Knowledge-guided artificial intelligence technologies for decoding complex multiomics interactions in cells

  • Cells survive and proliferate through complex interactions among diverse molecules across multiomics layers. Conventional experimental approaches for identifying these interactions have built a firm foundation for molecular biology, but their scalability is gradually becoming inadequate compared to the rapid accumulation of multiomics data measured by high-throughput technologies. Therefore, the need for data-driven computational modeling of interactions within cells has been highlighted in recent years. The complexity of multiomics interactions is primarily due to their nonlinearity. That is, their accurate modeling requires intricate conditional dependencies, synergies, or antagonisms between considered genes or proteins, which retard experimental validations. Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including deep learning models, are optimal choices for handling complex nonlinear relationships between features that are scalable and produce large amounts of data. Thus, they have great potential for modeling multiomics interactions. Although there exist many AI-driven models for computational biology applications, relatively few explicitly incorporate the prior knowledge within model architectures or training procedures. Such guidance of models by domain knowledge will greatly reduce the amount of data needed to train models and constrain their vast expressive powers to focus on the biologically relevant space. Therefore, it can enhance a model's interpretability, reduce spurious interactions, and prove its validity and utility. Thus, to facilitate further development of knowledge-guided AI technologies for the modeling of multiomics interactions, here we review representative bioinformatics applications of deep learning models for multiomics interactions developed to date by categorizing them by guidance mode.

모달 퍼지 이론을 이용한 지진하중을 받는 구조물의 능동제어 (Active control for Seismic Response Reduction using Modal-fuzzy Approach)

  • An active modal-fuzzy control method using hydraulic actuators is presented for seismic response reduction. In the proposed control system, a new fuzzy controller designed in the modal space produces the desired active control force. This type controller has all advantages of the fuzzy control algorithm and modal approach. Since it is very difficult to select input variables used in fuzzy controller among an amount of state variables in the active fuzzy control system the presented algorithm adopts the modal control algorithm which is able to consider more easily information of all state variables in civil structures that are usually dominated by first few modes. In other words, all information of the whole structure can be considered in the control algorithm evaluated to reduce seismic responses and it can be efficient for especially civil structures. In addition, the presented algorithm is expected to magnify utility and performance caused by efficiency that the fuzzy algorithm can handle complex model more easily. An active modal-fuzzy control scheme is applied together with a Kalman filter and a low-pass filter to be applicable to real civil structures. A Kalman filter is considered to estimate modal states and a low-pass filter was used to eliminate spillover problem. The results of the numerical simulations far a wide amplitude range o f loading conditions and for historic earthquakes having various frequency components show that the proposed active modal-fuzzy control system can be beneficial in reducing seismic responses of civil structures.

장기공공임대주택의 리모델링을 통한 주거복지 정책사업의 가치평가에 관한 연구 (The Study on Evaluating the Policy Value of Public Projects for Housing Welfare - Focused on the Remodeling Projects for Long Term Rental Housing -)

  • 주거복지 정책 실현을 위해 공급되고 있는 장기공공임대주택은 영구임대주택을 시작으로 급속히 노후화 되고 있다. 이에 노후화 개선을 위해 다양한 주거복지 사업이 추진 및 계획되고 있다. 그러나 모든 주거복지 정책이 다 필요한 것이라고 하더라도 재원은 한정적이기 때문에 재원의 효과적 배분과 투입이 요구된다. 더불어 많은 국가재정 투입이 예상되는 만큼 주거복지를 위한 공공사업에 앞서 사업의 타당성에 관한 검토가 요구된다. 한편, 기존의 타당성 연구는 SOC 사업을 주요 대상으로 한 지침개발이 대부분이기 때문에 본 연구의 대상과 같은 공공 리모델링 사업에 단순한 기존연구 결과의 적용에는 한계가 있다. 더불어 공공사업 타당성 평가를 위해서 경제적 가치와 정책가치 평가가 동시에 이루어져야 하지만 현실적으로 공공사업은 정책결정자의 사업실현 의지와 정책목표의 효과적 달성 등으로 상당부분 사업추진 여부가 결정된다. 이러한 측면에서 본 연구에서는 노후 장기공공임대주택 리모델링과 유지관리 두 대안을 대상으로 정책가치 평가 방법을 제시하고 자였다. 정책가치 평가를 위한 접근방법으로 예비타당성 분석의 정책적 분석 항목의 범주화를 고려하였다. 이를 통해 주거복지를 위한 노후 장기공공임대주택 리모델링 사업의 특성을 고려한 정책가치 평가항목을 도출하고 실증분석 방법으로 유지관리와 리모델링의 정책가치를 MAUT를 이용하여 산출하였다. 실증분석 결과 장기공공임대주택 리모델링 및 유지관리 정책가치 실증분석결과 유지관리의 효용값은 0.2461, 리모델링의 효용값은 0.6161로 리모델링의 정책가치가 큰 것으로 평가되었다. 세부 속성은 유지관리 및 리모델링의 순위가 유사한 것으로 나타났으며 경기부양 효과 극대화, 사업계획과 정책방향의 일치성, 사업의 준비정도 최적화 속성의 순위가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 실증분석 결과를 통해 향후 주거복지 실현을 위해 사업을 추진 시에는 정량적 자료를 근거로 하여 유지관리보다 리모델링의 정책을 실현하는 것이 타당하다는 의사결정을 내릴 수 있다.

매도후임대의 리스크 대비 성과의 비교분석: 선박투자회사 출자 및 선박 인수 사례를 중심으로 (A Comparative Analysis of Risk-to-Performance of Sale and Lease Back: Based on the cases of ship investment company investment and ship acquisition)

  • Purpose - I analyzes risk-to-performance evaluated in the market using data from sale and lease back. Specifically, I analyze from the perspective of financial institutions that purchase sale and lease back based on the cases of investment by ship investment companies and acquisition of ships. Design/methodology/approach - I use 49 sale and lease back data from 2017 to 2019 for empirical analysis. Findings - The main results of this paper are as follows. First, after sale and lease back of domestic ships, the average amount of sales by the leased shipping company is 25.1 billion won, the average amount of investment by the purchased financial institution is 14.6 billion won (60%) and the average length of the ship is nine years. In ship finance, sale and lease back is deemed to be appropriately used as a means of restructuring for a large amount of money. Second, the main risk factor for sale and lease back of domestic ships is credit risk and can be measured in VaR in practice. As a result of the empirical analysis, the average credit risk burden ratio is 9%. As a major risk factor, low creditworthiness of restructuring companies is the key. Third, as a result of measuring the profitability of financial institutions that purchase sale and lease back of domestic ships at a net current price, it has an average value of 300 million won, but the deviation by case is very large. Fourth, the risk adjusted performance of sale and lease back of domestic ships is 0.54 on average compared to the total risk capital, and 0.52 compared to the stock-risk capital, and as with profitability earlier, the deviation of each case is very large and misaligned. In order to boost the sale and lease back market for large and long-term assets, in order to overcome low profitability as a prerequisite for future participation of commercial purchased financial institutions, it is expected that purchase decisions based on expectations versus risk will be necessary. Research implications or Originality - The results of this paper are expected to broaden the understanding of sale and lease back and foster the ability to assess long-term risk and performance. Based on this, it is believed that rapid restructuring of companies through sale and lease back of large amounts of long-term assets will greatly increase the utility of the domestic financial market.

Micromorphological and Chemical Characteristics of Cengal (Neobalanocarpus heimii) Heartwood Decayed by Soft Rot Fungi

  • The heartwood of cengal (Neobalanocarpus heimii) is known to have a high degree of decay resistance by virtue of its high extractive content. After 30 years in ground contact an utility pole of this tropical hardwood was found to be degraded only in the surface layers by cavity-forming soft rot fungi. The present work was undertaken 1) to characterize the degradation of cengal heartwood from the aspect of ultrastructure and chemistry and 2) to investigate the correlation between soft rot decay and its extractive microdistribution in wood tissues. The chemical analysis of cengal heartwood revealed the presence of a high amount of extractives as well as lignin. The wood contained a relatively high amount of condensed lignin and the guaiacyl units. Microscopic observations revealed that vessels, fibers and parenchyma cells (both ray and axial parenchyma) all contained extractives in their lumina, but in variable amounts. The lumina of fibers and most axial parenchyma were completely or almost completely filled with the extractives. TEM micrographs showed that cell walls were also impregnated with extractives and that pit membranes connecting parenchyma cells were well coated and impregnated with extractives. However, fungal hyphae were present in the extractive masses localized in cell lumina, and indications were that the extractives did not completely inhibit fungal growth. The extent of cell wall degradation varied with tissue types. The fibers appeared to be more susceptible to decay than vessels and parenchyma. Middle lamella was the only cell wall region which remained intact in all cell types which were severely degraded. The microscopic observations suggested a close correlation between extractive microdistribution and the pattern and extent of cell wall degradation. In addition to the toxicity to fungi, the physical constraint of the extractive material present in cengal heartwood cells is likely to have a profound effect on the growth and path of invasion of colonizing fungi, thus conferring protection to wood by restricting fungal entry into cell walls. The presence of relatively high amount of condensed lignin is also likely to be a factor in the resistance of cengal heartwood to soft rot decay.

Effect of mixed sowing treatment of green manure crops on the change of soil nitrogen amount and yield production of corn

  • This study was conducted to find optimum mixed sowing ratio of green manure crops to reduce the use of chemical fertilizer as well as to increase the crop yield potential which will foster the utilization of green manure crops in the upland field in view of environment friendly agriculture. According to the study, the mixed ratio, 50:50, of hairy vetch and green barley showed highest nitrogen production yield in the soil due to the relatively higher organic nitrogen supply from the hairy vetch plant as well as nitrogen fixation from the air rather than other mixed ratio. In the 50:50 mixed ratio of hairy vetch and green barely total nitrogen amount in the soil showed 17.2kg per 10a, but in the other treatment ratio such as 75:25, 25:75. total nitrogen fixation amount were 16.7, 16.9 respectively. We also conducted the experiment to compare the effect of the mixed sowing treatment of green manure crops on the production of corn cultivated as a succeeding plant of hairy vetch. According to the result, the mixed ratio, 50:50, of hairy vetch and green barley treatment showed highest yield potential of corn as 153kg per 10a in seed weight which is due to the relatively higher organic nitrogen supply from the hairy vetch plant as well as nitrogen fixation from the air rather than other mixed ratio. In the mixed sowing treatment of hairy vetch 100 and barley 0 ratio, the corn production showed 148kg per 10a which is 5kg lower than that of hairy vetch 50 and barley 50 ratio, but showed statistically no difference between those two treatment. Otherwise, different treatments, such as hairy vetch 75 and barley 25, 25 and 75, 0 and 100 showed statistically different each other. Therefore, it was concluded that green manure crops, such as hairy vetch, green barley and rye were very effective crops to increase the soil fertility and gave the positive effect to the crops to give vegetative and propagative growth condition and, in turn, increased the yield potential. We have to make policy to enhance the utility of green manure crops in the upland crops as well as faddy field for the soil fertility and crop yield production which will guarantee prominent quality of environment friendly agriculture products.

북한 지역 지적측량원도 디지털화의 편익추정 (A Study on the Feasibility to Digitalize of cadastral maps of North Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 부산에 있는 국가기록원에 보관중인 북한 지역 지적측량원도 299,688매를 디지털화하는 사업의 편익을 분단 상태에서도 발생하는 편익과 통일 이후에 발생하는 편익으로 나눠서 추정하였다. 분단상태에서도 발생하는 편익은 고유가치, 유산가치, 직 간접 이용가치, 군사적 전략적 가치, 통일 기반 조성으로 나눌 수 있다. 통일 이후의 편익은 토지 원소유권 확인을 위한 행정 비용 절감, 가계(家系) 확인, 지번부여와 지적관리 업무의 토대 조성, 도시계획적 활용 등이 있다. 실제 추정은 조건부가치추정법(CVM)의 단일경계모형을 사용하였다. 분단 상태에서 발생하는 편익에 대한 가구당 지불용의액은 향후 5년간 매년 7,925원이며, 총 편익은 5,868억 원으로 추정되었다. 통일 이후에 발생하는 편익에 대한 가구당 지불용의액은 8,023원이며, 토지 원소유권 반환여부에 따라 총 편익은 3,243~5,941억 원으로 추정되었다.

냉각 시스템 및 에너지 저장 시스템을 갖춘 상업용 빌딩의 수요자원 거래시장 대응을 위한 운영 스케줄링 (Operation Scheduling in a Commercial Building with Chiller System and Energy Storage System for a Demand Response Market)

  • 한국의 수요자원(Demand Response, DR) 거래시장은 자연재해 또는 예기치 않은 발전소 사고로 인한 전력수급 위기 시 최대수요를 억제하며, 발전소 건설비용 절감 및 운영예비력 확보를 위한 목적으로 운영되고 있다. 수요자원 거래시장에 참여한 수용가는 전력거래소로부터 수요 감축 1시간 전 급전지시를 통보 받으며, 요청된 수요자원 감축을 통하여 기본급과 실적금을 정산 받는다. 본 논문에서는 냉각 시스템과 ESS을 갖춘 수용가가 계시별요금제와 수요자원 거래시장에 동시 참여 시, 최적 운영계획 수립을 위한 DR 에너지관리 알고리즘을 제안 하였다. 제안된 알고리즘은 주위온도 예측오차가 있는 전일 운영 스케줄링과 DR 운영일 리스케줄링의 두 가지 운영 스케줄링으로 구성된다. 전일 운영 스케줄링의 경우, 냉각 시스템, ESS의 운영스케줄링은 과거 주위온도 데이터를 기반으로 생성된 주위온도 시나리오와 불확실한 DR감축 시나리오에 의해 결정된다. 또한 DR 운영일에 대한 리스케줄링은 수용가의 DR 수익과 건물내부 열괘적성이 보장되며 제안된 방법은 혼합정수 선형 프로그래밍(Mixed Integer Linear Programming, MILP)에 의해 기대 에너지 비용을 최소화한다.
