Carbolic Acid which is called phenol is one of the important starting and/or intermediate materials in various industrial processes. However, its excessive release into environment poses a threat to living organisms, as it is a highly carcinogens and hazardous pollutant even at the very low concentration. Thus removal of phenol from polluted environments is very crucial for sustainable remediation process. We developed a low cost adsorption method for separating phenol from a model aqueous solution. The phenol adsorption was studied using two adsorbents i.e., Amber lite XAD-16 and Amber lite XAD-7 HP with a constant amount of resin 0.1 g at varying aqueous phenol concentrations ($50-200mgL^{-1}$) at room temperature. We compared the efficacy of two phenol adsorbents for removing higher phenol concentrations from the media. We investigated equilibrium and kinetics studies of phenol adsorption employing Freundlich, Temkin and Langmuir isotherms. Amberlite XAD-16 performed better than Amberlite XAD-7 HP in terms of phenol removal efficiency that amounted to 95.52%. Pseudo second order model was highly fitted for both of the adsorption systems. The coefficient of determination ($R^2$) with Langmuir isotherm was found to be 0.98 for Amberlite XAD-7 HP. However, Freundlich isotherm showed $R^2$ value of 0.95 for Amberlite XAD-16, indicating that both isotherms could be described for the isotherms on XAD-7 HP and Amberlite XAD-16, respectively.

PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to investigate shade changes in fully- and pre-crystalized CAD-CAM lithium disilicate crowns after the required and additional firing processes. MATERIALS AND METHODS. One hundred and five crowns of shade A1 with high translucency were milled out of CAD-CAM lithium disilicate blocks and categorized as follows (n = 15): (1) restorations fabricated from Straumann n!ce with no additional sintering process; (2) restorations fabricated from Straumann n!ce with one additional sintering process; (3) restorations fabricated from Straumann n!ce with two additional sintering processes; (4) restorations fabricated from Amber Mill with one sintering process; (5) restorations fabricated from Amber Mill with two sintering processes; (6) restorations fabricated from IPS e.max CAD with one sintering process; (7) restorations fabricated from IPS e.max CAD with two sintering processes. All restorations were evaluated with a color imaging spectrophotometer. RESULTS. All restorations presented some color alteration from the original shade both after a single and after two firing processes. CONCLUSION. The required and additional sintering processes for restorations fabricated with chairside CAD-CAM lithium disilicate blocks cause an alteration of the original shade selected. Shade A1 high translucency restorations tend to change to a more yellowish B1 shade after a sintering process.

The objective of this study is to improve the optical sensitivity of laser fluorescence for detection of incipient enamel caries. An incipient carious lesion was formed in various stages by placing an enamel specimen of a bovine tooth in STPP demineralization solution. After measuring the optical density of the lesion surface by laser fluorescence induced by argon laser and various alter of yellow(500-520nm), amber(520-540nm), orange(540-560nm), and red(560-580nm), the specimen was cut vertically to measure the depth of the lesion using a polarizing microscope. SAS statistical program was used to analyze the relationship between the optical density of the lesion suface and the depth of the lesion. The results were as follows: 1. The optical density of early carious lesion, measured by laser fluorescence with amber and orange filter, and lesion depth observed by polarizing microscope, were increased as demineralization time increased. 2. The correlation coefficient between optical density of the lesion surface and the histological depth of the lesion was the highest in orange filter(r=0.49), followed by amber(r=0.32), yellow(r=0.13) and red(0.01). 3. Regression analysis showed that the most linear relationship between the optical density and the lesion depth was existed in orange filter group. In regard above results, laser fluorescence could be considered to be reliable for optical diagnosis of dental caries.
Geometries for a number of representative ${\beta}$ -lactam antibiotics (penams, cephems and monobactams) have been calculated by computer graphics/molecular mechanics energy minimization procedures using both MM2 and AMBER force fields. The calculated geometries have been found in reasonable agreement with the geometries reported in the X-ray crystal structures, especially in terms of the pyramidal character of the amide nitrogen in the ${\beta}$-lactam ring and the Cohen distance. Based on these calculations, it is suggested that the nitrogen atom in the monobactams may also have pyramidal geometries in the biologically active conformations.
Geometries for several representative quinolone carboxylate type antibacterials have been calculated by computer graphics/molecular mechanics energy minimization procedures using both MM2 and AMBER force fields. The calculated geometries were found to be in reasonable agreements with the corresponding X-ray crystal structures. It has been pointed out that notwithstanding the weaknesses associated with calculating the resonance and hydrogen bonding contributions, the employed methods are capable of generating credible ring geometries and torsional angle dispositions of N(1)-ethyl and 3-carboxylate substituents of the quinolones.

In this paper we consider techniques for reducing the generated number of rules in learning fuzzy controllers of the state-space action-reinforcement type that can be simply implemented and that behave well in the presence of process noise. Fewer rules lead to better performance, less contradiction in controller action estimation, smaller required execution-time and make it easier for a human to comprehend the generated rules and possibly intervene.
Nitration of tyrosine and tryptophan residues is common in cells under nitrative stress. However, physiological consequences of protein nitration are not well characterized on a molecular level due to limited availability of the 3D structures of nitrated proteins. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation can be an alternative tool to probe the structural perturbations induced by nitration. In this study we developed molecular mechanics parameters for 3-nitrotyrosine (NIY) and 6-nitrotryptophan (NIW) that are compatible with the AMBER-99 force field. Partial atomic charges were derived by using a multi-conformational restrained electrostatic potential (RESP) methodology that included the geometry optimized structures of both $\alpha$- and $\beta$-conformers of a capped tripeptide ACE-NIY-NME or ACE-NIW-NME. Force constants for bonds and angles were adopted from the generalized AMBER force field. Torsional force constants for the proper dihedral C-C-N-O and improper dihedral C-O-N-O of the nitro group in NIY were determined by fitting the torsional energy profiles obtained from quantum mechanical (QM) geometry optimization with those from molecular mechanical (MM) energy minimization. Force field parameters obtained for NIY were transferable to NIW so that they reproduced the QM torsional energy profiles of ACE-NIW-NME accurately. Moreover, the QM optimized structures of the tripeptides containing NIY and NIW were almost identical to the corresponding structures obtained from MM energy minimization, attesting the validity of the current parameter set. Molecular dynamics simulations of thioredoxin nitrated at the single tyrosine and tryptophan yielded well-behaved trajectories suggesting that the parameters are suitable for molecular dynamics simulations of a nitrated protein.
The periodic safety review of operational nuclear power plants requires that the plants should keep a well organized environmental monitoring program. The past records of environment monitoring data were analyzed. and the tritium concentrations of the samples in the surface and ground water around Kori site were measured. It was shown that the tritium concentrations around the Kori site were slightly higher than that of natural background. The change of background tritium concentration was estimated through a numerical modeling. Two different versions of 7 compartments model - the world and the northern hemisphere - defined in NCRP-62 were modeled for the global tritium cycling. The numerical solution of the model was obtained using a computer program, AMBER. The four cases of tritium source-terms into the atmosphere were considered. The results showed that the tritium concentration in the surface soil water was higher than that in sea water or surface stream water. Also, it was shown that the tritium produced by the interaction between cosmic rays and the gases were the major source of tritium, and the tritium produced by nuclear weapon test decreased considerably.
In this paper the spectra of correlated color temperature (CCT) tunable white light-emitting diode (LED) luminaires, consisting of commercial red, green, blue, and amber LED chips, were optimized to increase color rendering index (CRI), and a special CRI of R9 for deep red color was obtained. To improve the design's accuracy, measured LED spectra were used instead of mathematically modeled ones. Real CCT tunable LED luminaires with CRIs of 87-90 and R9s of 34-93 were fabricated and demonstrated at CCTs of 3000-6000 K.
Tobacco plants grown in pots by sand culture for 70 days after transplanting were used to evaluate the sensing distance and measurement efficiency of ground-based remote sensors. The leaf distribution of tobacco plant and sensing distance from the sensors to the target leaves were controlled by two removal methods of leaves, top-down and bottom-up removal. In the case of top-down removal, the canopy reflectance was measured by the sensor located at a fixed position having an optimum distance from the detector to the uppermost leaf of tobacco every time that the higher leaves were one at a time. The measurement of bottom-up removal, a the other hand, was conducted in the same manner as that of the top-down removal except that the lower leaves were removed one by one. Canopy reflectance measurements were made with hand held spectral sensors including the active sensors such as $GreenSeeker^{TM}$ red and green, $Crop\;Circle\;ACS-210^{TM}$ red and amber, the passive sensors of $Crop\:Circle^{TM}$, and spectroradiometer $SD2000^{TM}$. The reflectance indices by all sensors were generally affected by the upper canopy condition rather than lower canopy condition of tobacco regardless of sensor type, passive or active. The reflectance measurement by $GreenSeeker^{TM}$ was affected sensitively at measurement distance longer than 120 cm, the upper limit of effective sensing distance, beyond which measurement errors are appreciable. In case of the passive sensors that has no upper limit of effective distance and $Crop\;Circle^{TM}(ACS210)$ that has the upper limit of effective sensing distance specified with 213 cm, longer than that of estimated distance, the measurement efficiency affected by the sensing distance showed no difference. This result suggests that it is necessary to use the sensor specified optimum distance. The result revealed that active sensors are more superior than their passive counterparts in establishing between the relative ratio of reflectance index and the dry weight of tobacco treated by top-down removal, and in the evaluation of biomass. $The\;Crop\;Circle\;ACS-210^{TM}$ red was proved to have the highest efficiency of measurement, followed by $Crop\;Circle^{TM}(ACS210)$ amber and $GreenSeeker^{TM}$ red, $Crop\;Circle^{TM}$ passive, $GreenSeeker^{TM}$ green, and spectroradiometer, in descending order.
