  • We investigated that Hwao-tang had various effects on stimulus-induced superoxide generation in human neutrophils. Hwao-tang significantly inhibited N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine-induced superoxide generation in a concentration-dependent manner, but not that induced by arachidonic acid. Also, Hwao-tang significantly reduced mouse paw oedema induced by carrageenan. The results suggest that protein tyrosine kinase participates in fMLP-mediated superoxide generation by Hwao-tang-treated human neutrophils. Also, the results indicate that Hwao-tang exerts anti-inflammatory effects related to the inhibition of neutrophil functions and of NO and prostaglandin E2 production, which could be due to a decreased expression of iNOS and COX-2.

  • Shaded relief is used in the analysis of digital terrain model, but accurate shadow zone has not been affirmed on account of idea only shadow of terrain that would be in shadow are shaded. This study is to analyze each display difference of a digital terrain model by grasping the shadow characteristics of terrain and comparing shaded relief function used terrain display of GIS with a rendering technique. After terrain with road in subject area is selected and created to digital terrain model of TIN, shaded relief and rendering according to altitude and azimuth of the sun at 9:00 am and 3:00 pm is applied. As the results, only backward portions of the terrain that is in shadow from the sunlight are shaded in case of shaded relief. The rendering created the shadow, which is cast by terrain features. By these mutual comparison, this study represented data for understanding of shaded relief. And it is expected that the rendering method could be used to analyze sunshine influence.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 12-weeks' swimming training on BMI, leptin and plasma lipid profiles in limited exercise function and physical activity with cerebral palsy. Swimming training program is scheduled to perform for 12-week and 1h each 4 or more times per week. The results of the this study were as follows; First, Body weight, BMI, total cholesterol, LDL and leptin were slightly decreased trend, although these did not reach statistical significance. HDL was not changed in before vs. after training. Second, in the concentration of plasma triglyceride, after training was significantly higher than before training(p<.05) and free fatty acid level was significantly lower at the after training(p<.001). These results suggest that the 12 weeks' regular swimming program has effect of improving plasma lipid and leptin levels in cerebral palsy. Therefore, we consider that it have effect on prevention of obese-related metabolic diseases in cerebral palsy.

  • Recently as the interest on Esthetic Dental Prosthesis is arising, the domains of Esthetic Dentistry is being widely investigated. Esthetic Dental Prosthesis is influenced greatly by the shape, color, tooth arrangement of the teeth and the facial features(including the lips). So the degree to which these characters harmonize will be the professional esthetical standard while the satisfaction of the patient will be another esthetical measure. The reason for this is that each and every one of us has a different standard of what is considered beautiful. Of course it doesn't mean that every standard is correct. Then what does Esthetical Prosthesis mean and what should the standard be? This must be defined as a prosthesis that satisfies the basic requirements - margin, contour, occlusion, and at the same time it should restore the shape, color, and tooth arrangement which the client(patient) would love to have. As Esthetic Prosthesis contains its subjective meaning a great deal, it shouldn't be simply distinguished between the beauty of the teeth itself or ugliness. Also in some case, it needs surgical treatment to make it harmonious in the whole aspect so that one may keep the feeling of satisfaction and security. Then what is the shape, color, tooth arrangement that each individual wants? There is an indefinite variety. For example, considering arrangement both regular and irregular is considered beautiful by each different individual. Regular arrangement may be the standard of beauty for some, while irregular arrangement may be thought of as natural looking and beautiful. That is why there must be enough communication with the patient and an agreement be made at the clinic before a diagnostic plan and actual surgery. The treatment plan as mentioned above must be sent to the dental laboratory. In this research, by using case studies, I am going to the importance and appropriateness of the data and information for the dental technician's esthetic prosthesis.

  • Phlebectasia of the venous system of the upper limb is very rare and it does not have a well-defined etiology. Phlebectasia means isolated fusiform or saccular dilatation of the venous system and isolated phlebectasia of the forearm may present as a painless cosmetic deformity or it may cause pain, decreased range of movement, compression on adjacent structures, bleeding, thrombosis and consumptive coagulopathy. We report here on a case of isolated phlebectasia of the forearm and we briefly review the relevant literature.

  • In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation of palm kernel meal (PKM), as a fermentable carbohydrate source, on the growth performance, meat quality, concentration of odorous compound, and changes in bacterial community in swine manure. Swine (average initial body weight of $51.36{\pm}1.02kg$) were fed diet which included three levels of PKM (0, 2 and 4%), and their manure samples were collected from the slurry pit. Growth performance and meat quality were not affected by PKM treatments (p > 0.05). Levels of phenols and indoles were decreased in the 2 and 4% PKM treatments compared to 0% PKM (control; p < 0.05). Especially, compared to the control, the 2% PKM group showed decreased levels of phenols by 35% and indoles by 34%. Among the dominant bacterial genera, the main change in relative abundance occurred in those belonging to the Firmicutes phylum in PKM treatments. Terrisporobacter and Clostridium were decreased in the PKM groups compared to the control. However, the relative abundance of Intestinibacter, AM406061_g, Coprococcus_g2, Phascolarcotobacterium, EF401875_g, Lactobacillus, and Streptococcus were increased in the PKM group compared to control. Taken together, administration of PKM had a beneficial effect on reducing production of odorous compounds in swine manure, possibly by modulating the communities of predominantly carbohydrate-utilizing bacteria in the large intestine of swine.

  • Theoretically, the dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are high efficiency solar cells. However DSSCs have low power conversion efficiency (PCE) than silicon based solar cells. In this study, we use the phosphor materials, such as $Y_2O_3:Eu$ (Red), $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ (Green), $BaMgAl_{14}O_{23}:Eu$ (Blue), to enhance the PCE of DSSCs. Three phosphors were prepared and used as an effective scattering layer on the transparent $TiO_2$ with doctor blade method. We confirmed that the three scattering layers improve the PCE and Jsc due to the light harvesting enhancement via increased the scattering and absorbance in visible range. Under the sun illumination AM 1.5 conditions, the PCE of the mesoporous $TiO_2$ based DSSCs is 5.18 %. The PCE of the DSSCs with Y2O3:Eu, $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ and $BaMgAl_{14}O_{23}:Eu$ as scattering layer were enhanced to 5.66 %, 5.72% and 5.82%, respectably. In order to compare the optical properties change, DSSCs were measured by EQE, reflectance and PCE. At the same time, FE-SEM and XRD were used to confirm the structural changes of each layer.

  • Carbon-coated Ni, Cu and Sn nanocapsules were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and a four-point probe device. All of these nanocapsules were prepared by an arc-discharge method, in which the bulk metals were evaporated under methane ($CH_4$) atmosphere. Three pure metals (Ni, Cu, Sn) were typically diverse in formation of the carbon encapsulated nanoparticles and their different mechanisms were investigated. It was indicated that a thick carbon layers formed on the surface of Ni(C) nanocapsules, whereas a thin shell of carbon with 1~2 layers covered on Cu(C) nanocapsules, and the Sn(C) nanocapsules was, in fact, a longger multi-walled carbon nanotubes partially-filled with metal Sn. As one typical magnetic/dielectric nanocomposite particles, Ni(C) nanocapsules and its counterpart of oxide-coated Ni(O) nanocapsules were compared in the electrically conductive behaviors for further applications as the electromagnetic materials.
