  • In this study, we have developed the personal computer-based industrial accident information management system(AIMS) which produces the industrial accident reports, various statistical reports and graphic charts such as pie, bar and trent charts. Recognizing the fact that computer systems are an integral part of today's business environment, the computerized industrial accident information management system serves as tools to help safety professionals accurately and rapidly obtain the information necessary to make decisions. The system can be used for the prevention of industrial accidents by early detection of potential hazards and by scientific and systematic analysis of causal factors.

Li100A Study on the Usability of WAP Interface in the Philippines

  • The existence of Internet revolutionized the computer and communications world. With the rising demand for accessing the Internet, the mobile technology has incorporated the use of Internet in mobile phones. Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) has combined two of the widest utilized technology today: mobile phones and Internet. This study aims to assess the existing WAP pages offered by the top service providers in the Philippines through usability testing experiments. The paper also aims to identify existing problems in WAP interface by focusing on the errors committed by the users. From the usability study, it was found out that common usability problems are wrong selection of links, unclear grouping of categories, wrong feedback, and redundant links. The type of service provider used is significant in determining the performance of users while experience in accessing WAP is insignificant.

  • In developing the ubiquitous computing technology based services (ubiquitous services), evaluating how much value of those services is created or added is very crucial. The efforts to evaluate the ubiquitous services have been progressed in two perspectives - technical perspective and behavioral perspective. Despite its importance, however, the methodologies which integrate both perspectives have been still very rare. Hence, this paper aims perspectives have been still very rare. Hence, this paper aims to propose an integrated ubiquitous service valuation methodology based on the multi-layered approach including technical and behavioral perspectives. To do so, we conducted a case study with currently existing location based service (LBS) such as navigation systems by conducting focus group interview (FGI) and field survey.

  • The ecological environment planning begins with the awareness that human are a part of ecological system. A recent issue, LOHAS (Lifestyle of Health and Substantiality), will be defined as a consumption trend which values highly health, social justice, economy, self development and sustainable life. LOHAS aims at coexistence with human and nature, pursue a sustainable development and it could be an alternative for SHS(Sick House Syndrome). This research tries to show the case analysis in coexistence in human and nature which LOHAS aims at. The design space applied the concept of LOHAS(renewing, reusing and recycling) will maintain healthy lives of the present and the future. A Study on Emergency Monitoring Robot System by Back-Propagation Algorithm

  • This study aims to implement the emergency monitoring robot system which predicts the current state of the patients without visiting the medical institutions by measuring the basic health status of the user's blood pressure, heartbeat, and basic health status of body temperature in the disaster emergency situation based on the Smart Grid. By arranging a large number of sensor(blood pressure, heartbeat, body temperature sensor) and measuring the bio signs, so the attached wireless XBee sensor can be stored in DB of robot, and it aims to draw the current state of the patients by analysis of stored bio data. Among 300 data obtained from the sensor, 1st data to 100th data were used for learning, and from 101st data to 300th data were used for assessment. 12 results were different among the total 300 assessment data, so it shows about 96% accuracy.

  • In recent years, with the existence of huge amounts of data stored in huge databases, the need for developing accurate tools for analyzing data and extracting information and knowledge from the huge and multi-source databases have been increased. Hence, new and modern techniques have emerged that will contribute to the development of all other sciences. Knowledge discovery techniques are among these technologies, one popular technique of knowledge discovery techniques is data mining which aims to knowledge discovery from huge amounts of data. Such modern technologies of knowledge discovery will contribute to the development of all other fields. Data mining is important, interesting technique, and has many different and varied algorithms; Therefore, this paper aims to present overview of data mining, and clarify the most important of those algorithms and their uses.

Preventing Disputes under Free Trade Agreements with Advance Ruling System

  • This article aims to explore ways to prevent disputes arising from 'Origin Procedure' under FTAs through 'advance ruling system'. To achieve the aims of this article, this paper examines advance ruling systems operated by Korea and the United States to implement the Korea-US FTA, and analyzes whether the systems are realizing the original purpose of preventing disputes in terms of legal certainty and accessibility. The results show that the advance ruling system for origin in Korea has the same high level of laws and institutions as that of the United States. However, it is necessary to further provide institutional support for staffs that operate the system, so that expertise knowledge can be consolidated and accumulated. Also the accessibility of the system requires improvements.

  • DB Integration website(tentatively named Food Processing Aptitude Information Center, FPAIC) has been designed through a "high-value products development project(2013)". Basically, the project aims to secure connections between food raw materials and processing industry, a variety of information sources, and users's convenience. It also aims to build the industry-university-based mutual growth in the food industry through sharing of processing suitability and material research on food raw materials. FPAIC consists of raw material story, information of sample characteristics, food processing study, preceding research data, food industry trends, and understanding of food processing. The major database of research on Food Processing is provided on information of sample characteristics, and food processing study. Currently the web site has 36 raw material stories, 380 information on sample characteristics and food processing studies, 1,600 preceding research data about 31 food raw materials. The web site also provides information on 70 useful web sites, as well as 77 food industry trends, 27 basic information about food processing.

Hardy's Laodiceanism: Dare's Role in A Laodicean

  • Laodiceanism is the blueprint from which Hardy draws one of his most ingenuous effects: the creating of a Laodicean around which the novel constructs its ambiguity. Hardy's command of "ingenuity" joins both the leading heroine Paula and the minor character Dare into the same category of a Laodicean. Alongside Paula, Dare is the most important ingredient in the novel in that he acts as an enigmatic persona defying the reader's attempts to establish a coherent type. This paper aims to offer a close reading of Dare's life story, which is chosen for discussion as he has been deemed as a simple functionary and thus apparently escaped serious critical notice thus far. It is stressed that the structure of sensations Dare embodies is fascinating in the sense that it is a locus where the coexistence of both meaning and nonmeaning would not amount to harmonious peace or stability so much as permits the impossibility of single and central significance. In this coexistence is inscribed a notion that the binaries in opposition are endlessly inter-mingled in dialogic tension, which is the hallmark of Laodiceanism that Hardy aims to present through the creation of Dare.

  • By analyzing the current status and type of industrial safety accidents caused by industrial machinery, this study aims to examine the importance and necessity of the safety devices that are installed on-site. Additionally, this study aims to determine the implications for Korea by analyzing the status of industrial accidents in major countries and the responses to the accidents. We found that workers could easily access and operate the safety devices and that productivity and convenience were more important than safety. Thus, safety devices need to be mandatorily installed on-site for the safety of workers, and only management supervisors should be given the authority to operate them to afford a sense of safety responsibility to the workers.
