  • In this study, we design, model, and analyze a compound generator that combines the axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM,) and radial flux permanent magnet (RFPM), which is expected to increase power generation by allowing the magnets to be placed on the upper, lower, left, and right sides of the same-sized generator. Through the design, modelling, and analysis of AFPM and RFPM compound generators, the generator load evaluation results rated output of 500.25 W and efficiency of 87.60%, respectively, at a rated speed of 600 rpm. By employing this complex generation system, these findings are expected to contribute to the activation of a small power generation system.

  • Recently, issues regarding environment and the diversification of dependence in oil are watched with keen interest. Wind power attracts most interest because of its high-energy efficiency with environment friendly functions. The paper discusses the development of a coreless axial-flux permanent magnet (AFPM) generator for a wind power system. Analyzed the Coreless AFPM generator by electromagnetic, and designed wind power generator with this. The 3 phase output of stator is rectified and fed to a common do link. The overall machine structure has high compactness and lightness, because of the lack of the iron core. The test results with a resistive load confirm the satisfactory operation of generator. Compared with conventional generator, the design has lower weight, lower Power loss and improved efficiency.

  • Permanent-magnet generators have been used for wind turbines for many years. This paper deals with the AFPM(Axial - Flux Permanent Magnet) Generator with a high power-to-weight ratio, dedicated for small wind turbines. The designed and constructed generator as a prototype in this study is a slotless type AFPM Generator with Neodymium-Iron-Boron magnet rotor. Based on that construction, a magnetic circuit analysis of the generator is carried out. Some important equations covering its characteristics and construction are derived and its magnetic and electrical characteristics are investigated.

  • Generally, the structure without the stator core Axial Field Permanent Magnet (AFPM) generator was simple and there was nearly no cogging toque. And because it had the wide driving rate area, it had been being mainly used in the small wind power generation system. However, AFPM generator with non-slotted stator can't generate high voltage at low wind speed due to long air-gap. It is the reason of output efficiency drop. Therefore, in this paper, the AFPM synchronous generator with internal rotor and dual slotted stators for the small wind turbine is studied, and deal with a cogging torque minimization through the determination of optimum pole-arc ratio.

  • Axial Field Permanent Magnet (AFPM) generators are widely applied for the small wind turbine because of the higher power density per unit weight than that of the conventional radial field generator. It is caused by the disc shaped rotor and the stator structures. The generally used AFPM generator, AFER-NS generator, is composed of the two side's external rotors and non-slotted stator without stator core. However, the output voltage and the output power are limited by the large reluctance by the long air-gap flux paths. In this paper, the design study of AFIR-S generator having double side's slotted stator core is accomplished to improve the output generation characteristics. The electromagnetic design analysis and the design improvement of the suggested AFIR-S generator are studied. Firstly, the electromagnetic design analysis was done to increase the power density. Secondly, the design optimizations of the rotor pole-arc ratio of permanent magnet are accomplished to increase the output power and to reduce the cogging torque. Finally, the output performances of AFER-NS and AFIR-S generator are compared with each other. For this study, 3D FEA is applied for the design analysis because of three dimensional electromagnetic structures.

  • This paper presents an innovative design for a low-speed, direct-drive, axial-flux permanent-magnet (AFPM) generator with a coreless stator and rotor that is intended for application to small wind turbine power generation systems. The performance of the generator is evaluated and optimized by means of comprehensive 3D electromagnetic finite element analysis. The main focus of this study is to improve the power output and efficiency of wind power generation by investigating the electromagnetic and structural features of a coreless AFPM generator. The design is validated by comparing the performance achieved with a prototype. The results of our comparison demonstrate that the proposed generator has a number of advantages such as a simpler structure, higher efficiency over a wide range of operating speeds, higher energy yield, lighter weight and better power utilization than conventional machines. It would be possible to manufacture low-cost, axial-flux permanent-magnet generators by further developing the proposed design.

  • In this paper, the cogging torques were calculated for 1kw double-sided axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) generator with different stator core pole arrangements. The generator is composed of 18 stator pole and 24 rotating field magnets on each side. The cogging torques of the generator with three types of arrangements of stator poles were calculated using 3D finite element method and the optimum core shape was determined to minimize the cogging torque.

  • The cogging torque is important to the cut-in wind speed. And, it causes the acoustic noise and the vibration on the machine. This paper presents a 3D FEA(Finite Element Analysis) to evaluate the effect of magnet skew and stator displacement on cogging torque reduction, for double core AFPM(Axial Flux Permanent Magnet) generator. As a result, the magnet skew and the stator side displacement are proved excellent techniques to reduce the cogging torque.

  • Wind power system attracts most interest because of high-energy efficiency with environment-friendly. Small scale wind power applications requires a cost effective and mechanically simple generator in order to be a reliable energy source. The use of direct driven generators, instead of geared machines, reduces the number of drive components, which offers the opportunity to reduce costs and increases system reliability and efficiency. This paper presents the development of a coreless axial-flux permanent magnet(AFPM) generator for a urban wind power system. It is analyzed by electromagnetic simulation program Maxwell 3D

  • Nowadays, the global interests are concentrated on the preserving of the clean environment, and the diminishing of the dependence on the fossil energy, and among the possible alternative energies, the wind turbine generating system is considered to be the best suited to produce high efficiency energy, without affecting the natural environment. The permanent magnet generators were been used for the wind power generating, for long time, with continuous efforts to improve the generating efficiency. And the latest trend on it is to develop an AFPM(Axial Flux Permanent Magnet)type, which is composed in the structure of rotor and stator shaped in the disc forms, and the direction of the flux at the air gap runs in parallel to the shaft. This thesis is on the study concerning with the analysis of the characteristics of the 5 kW at 300rpm direct drive AFPM generator which is suitable for the small scale wind turbine generating system. In it, the Electro-magnetically Coreless AFPM was been analyzed, the prototype generators been made, concentrated on interpreting the characteristics of the power output, and verifying it through the theoretical study and practical tests.
