  • Dye removal from waste water via adsorption by activated carbons (ACs) developed from agricultural wastes represents an ideal alternative to other expensive treatment options. Physical and chemical ACs were prepared from rice husks. The textural properties of the ACs were characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller-$N_2$ adsorption and scanning electron microscopy. The chemistry of the carbon surface was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, base and acid neutralization capacities, pH of the active carbon slurry, and $pH_{pzc}$. The adsorption capacities of the ACs for the basic dye (methylene blue) and acid dye (acid green 25) were determined using parameters such as contact time, pH, and temperature. NaOH-ACs showed the highest surface area and total pore volume, whereas steam-ACs showed the lowest ones.

  • In this work, the $CO_2$ adsorption behaviors of amine functionalized activated carbons (ACs) were investigated. The surface of ACs was modified with urea, melamine, diethylenetriamine (DETA), pentaethylenehexamine (PEHA), polyethylenimine (PEI), and 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane (ATPS). The various surface properties of amine functionalized ACs were characterized by Boehm's method, nitrogen full isotherms, XPS, and TGA analyses. The active ingredients impregnated on the ACs show significant influence on the adsorption for $CO_2$ and its volumes adsorbed on amine functionalized ACs are larger than that on the pristine ACs, which is due to the grafted amine groups of the AC surfaces.

  • In this work, the effects of different surface functional groups on the elemental mercury adsorption of porous carbons modified by chemical treatments were investigated. The surface properties of the treated carbons were observed by Boehm's titration and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It was found that the textural properties, including specific surface area and pore structures, slightly decreased after the treatments, while the oxygen content of the ACs was predominantly enhanced. Elemental mercury adsorption behaviors of the acidtreated ACs were found to be four or three times better than those of non-treated ACs or base-treated ACs, respectively. This result indicates that the different compositions of surface functional groups can lead to the high elemental mercury adsorption capacity of the ACs. In case of the acid-treated ACs, the $R_{C=O}/R_{C-O}$ and $R_{COOH}/R_{C-O}$ showed higher values than those of other samples, indicating that there is a considerable relationship between mercury adsorption and surface functional groups on the ACs.

  • TCM offers considerable coding gains without compromising bandwidth or signal power. But TCM decoder is more complex than convolutional Viterbi decoder. Because, the number of branches exponentially increased by the constraint length and input symbol bits. The parallelism of ACS and memory management technique of SPMM is one of the important factor for speed-up and hardware complexity. This paper proposes a multi-processing technique of ACS and also gives a memory management technique of SPMM in TCM decoders.

  • In this study, amine and metal oxide additives were investigated to improve $CO_2$ adsorption capacity of activated carbons (ACs). The characteristics of surface modified ACs were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), $N_2$ adsorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and BET. Amine surface treatment decreased specific surface area and pore volume of ACs, but increased alkalinity by the incorporated nitrogen functional groups. Adsorption capacities of amine functionalized ACs was larger than original ACs, because basic group which can react with $CO_2$ was grafted on the ACs surface. Presence of copper oxides on ACs also enhances the carbon dioxide adsorption. The copper oxides could increase the adsorption rate of carbon dioxides due to the acid-base interaction (or electron acceptor-donor interaction). It was found that copper oxide loading was a promising method to improve the $CO_2$ adsorption capacity of ACs.

  • Activated carbons (ACs) are widely used in adsorption for the removal of gaseous and aqueous pollutants[1]. Although a wide range of carbonaceous materials can be converted into ACs, the coal and lingocellulosic materials are the most commonly used starting materials for the production of commercial ACs. Recently, there are a quite large number of studies regarding the preparation of ACs from various polymeric materials because of high carbon yield and low ash content In this work, ACs are prepared from polystyrene (PS) by chemical activation with potassium hydroxide and the effect of the KOH-to-PS ratio to adsorption of ammonia is investigated. • In this work, carbon black(CBs)-embed multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) as conductive fillers for activated carbon(ACs)-based electrodes for supercapacitor were prepared by chemical reduction of oxidized MWNTs and CBs. The effect of CBs-MWNT composites on electrochemical performances of ACs-based electrodes were investigated as a function of CB-MWNT ratio. It was found that CBs-MWNTs composites were formed by the reduction reaction of the functional groups of oxidized MWNTs and CBs. It was resulted in the conjugation of CBs onto the MWNT having high surface area and aspect ratio, leading to the enhanced electrical properties of MWNTs. The electrochemical performances, such as current density, charge-discharge, and specific capacitance of the ACs/CBs-MWNT electrodes were higher than that of ACs/MWNTs and conventional ACs/CB electrodes, which was attributed to the synergistic effect of CBs-MWNTs as a conductive filler.

  • Recently the concurrent construction method of framework and windows work has been applied for early beginning of exterior finishing works in tall building construction. However, the conventional method makes difficulties in auto-climbing of gang-form and climbing work of lift car since the removal of ACS(auto climbing system) should be preceded for operation of lift car up to the top floor. This study propose a concept model of integrated ACS and lift car system to resolve these problems and begin windows works early in tall building construction.

  • In this work, the activated carbons (ACs) with high porosity were synthesized from pitch by KOH chemical activation. The structure and surface properties of ACs were characterized by means of elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). And, the influence of the KOH-to-pitch ratio on the porosity of the ACs was investigated using the nitrogen adsorption isotherms at 77 K and a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As a result, pitch could be successfully converted into ACs with well-developed micro and mesopores. The specific surface areas and pore volumes were increased with an increase of the KOH-to-pitch ratio. Furthermore, it was found that the addition of KOH led to the transformation of the micropores to the meso- and macropores. In the application to electric double layer capacitors (EDLC), the pitch-based ACs showed a higher capacitance per weight and per volume, and an excellent electrochemical stability in the high voltage region.
