  • Eight singly reinforced high strength concrete beams were tested to investigate their flexural behavior. The variable is tensile steel raio. The test results are presented in terms of load-deformation behavior, ductility indexes, and cracking patterns. The flexural strengths obtained experimentally are compapred to the analytical results, and good agreements are obtained. The flexural design provisions of the ACI Building Code are found to be adequate to predict the strength of reinforced high-strength concrete beams.

  • This paper descrides on the economical design of apartment house. * The optimal problems are made by considering the objective function which minimize the construction cost of frame. * The object functions are taken as the codfficient equations of the cost function for a unit area. * Constraints are the design limits defined by the ultimate flexural strength, the ultimate shear strength. the minimum thickness, and the ratio of steel in accordance with ACI 318-89 Code. * Optimization is achieved by optimum nonlinear GINO(General interactive Optimizer)program. In design examples, it is compared with the optimum design results of apartment house and underground parking lot for structural systems.

  • An equation is proposed to predict ultimate shear strength. The equatiion on ultimate shear strength, which is purely based on analytical premises, is similar form to ACI code(11-6) which is derived mainly from empirical approach. Furthermore, the strength predicted by the proposed equation show better correlation with the tested values than the values calculated by Zsutty's formula.

  • This paper presents the failure mode on Headed Bars and prediction of tensile capacity, which is governed by concrete cone failure. 17 different plate types, three different concrete strengths and three different welding types of specimens were simulated. Static tensile load was applied Headed Bars were manufactured in different areas, and their shape and thickness are based on ASTM 970-98. Calculation of embedment length in concrete is conducted based on CSA 23.3-94, and static tensile load was applied. Tested pullout capacities were compared to the values determined using current design methods such as ACI-349 and CCD method.

  • A typical structure was selected for a prototype and four 1:2.5 scaled models, representing the subassemblage including the interior column and the deep beam, were constructed. The transverse reinforcement was designed according to ACI procedure and the procedure proposed by Sheikh. In this study, the correlation between the experimental and analytical responses of the subassemblages subjected to the cyclic lateral displacement were evaluated through investigation of lateral load-lateral deformation, local deformation characteristics by using a nonlinear FEM analysis program RCAHEST.

  • In this study, the validity of the grid softened strut-tie model method suggested for concrete member analysis is examined through the ultimate strength evaluation of the reinforced concrete beams. The evaluated results of ultimate strength by the grid softened strut-tie model method were compared with those by the ACI 318-02 and the modified compression field theory, and European codes.

  • In this thesis, fracture test was performed in order to investigate the fracture strength of SFRC(steel fiber reinforced concrete) structures. The relationship between the compressive force and strain value of SFRC specimens were observed under the compressive strength test. From the fracture test results, the relationship between percentage of fiber by volume, compressive strength, elastic modulus, and tensile strength of SFRC beams were studied, and the measured elastic modulus of SFRC were compared with the calculated elastic modulus by ACI committee 544.

  • The purpose of this experimental study is to understand the flexural Behavior of structural deck plate continuous slabs (power deck plate slabs). The main variables considered in this test are thickness of the slab and the deck plate. Five specimens that have length of 600cm and width of 60cm were manufactured. Test results indicated that the ultimate flexural strength of power deck plate slabs was conservative compared to ACI flexural provisions. But, suitable arrangement of bar of top reinforcement is needed for crack control.

  • Deep pile caps usually contain no transverse shear reinforcement and only small percentages of longitudinal reinforcement. The current design procedures including ACI 318-02 for the pile caps do not provide engineers with a clear understanding of the physical behavior of deep pile caps. In this study, the failure strengths of nine pile cap specimens tested to failure were evaluated using 3-dimensional strut-tie models. The analysis results obtained from the present study were compared with those obtained from several design methods, and the validity of the present method implementing 3-dimensional strut-tie models was examined.
