  • Until now, there is no report for the relationship between the condition of addressing and the characteristics of surface discharge in ac- PDP. We have known that such experiments were important to drive a-PDP. Therefore, This paper deals with the probability of transfer and the characteristics of luminance according to addressing voltage (Va), blocking voltage (Vg)in addressing period and sustain voltage(Vs)in sustaining period and we use waveform according to ADS (Address and Display period Separation) method.

  • A silent discharge type ozone generator using a water surface as an electrode has been proposed and investigated experimentally. A water surface has many Taylor cones when the ac voltage is applied on its surface, which increase the discharge surface greatly. In this paper, it was studied about the effect of the water conductivity. As increasing the water conductivity, the amount of generated ozone was increased and the silent discharge on the water surface took place steadily and calmly.

  • In this paper, the AC-PDP's structural defects with a gap between front and rear glass are investigated. Breakdown voltage, sustain voltage, current and brightness have been measured for various gaps between two plates under various gas pressures. The experimental results show that the firing voltage, sustain voltage and brightness were decreased whereas the discharge current was increased as the gap increased. When the gap is over $40{\mu}m$, it was impossible to drive cells separately.

  • AC PDP with surface micro discharge has a structure that all discharge electrodes are arranged on the front glass panel, and the rear glass panel merely serves as a cover glass to form the micro discharge space. The relationships between the dischage voltage and the structure among such as electrode width, distance between electrodes, discharge space gap, and dielectric layer width are investigated.

  • In this paper, we propose a newly developed selective reset waveform of a ac PDP using the wide erase pulse technique with the control of address bias voltage. Although it is generally understood that the wide pulse erasing methode shows the narrow driving margin in an opposite discharge type ac PDP, we could obtain a moderate driving margin in a 3-electrode surface discharge type ac PDP. The obtained driving margin shows a strong dependency on the sustain voltage and the address bias voltage. The lower the sustain and the address bias voltage, the wider the driving margin. The pulse width of the proposed waveform is only $10{\mu}s$, which gives additional time to the sustain period, hence increases the brightness. The brightness and contrast ratio increase about 20% together comparing to the conventional ramp type selective reset waveform with the driving scheme of 10 subfield ADS method. The driving margin was measured with the line by line addressed pattern on the white test panel of 2inch diagonal size and the discharge gas was Ne+Xe4%, 400torr.

  • The performance of ac plasma display panels (PDP) is influenced strongly by the surface glow discharge characteristics on the MgO thin films. This paper deals with the surface slew discharge characteristics and some physical properties of MgO thin films prepared by reactive RF planar unbalanced magnetron sputtering in connection with ac PDP. The samples prepared with the do bias voltage of -10V showed lower discharge voltage and lower erosion rate by ion bombardment than those samples prepared by conventional magnetron sputtering or E-beam evaporation. The main factor that improves the discharge characteristics by bias voltage is considered to be due to the morphology changes or crystal structure of the MgO thin film by ion bombardment during deposition process.

  • The relationships between discharge characteristics and sustain electrode shape are studied in AC PDP by calculating the electric field and measuring discharge voltage, luminance and current. The maximum electric field is obtained for the triangle shape electrode. It is 1.8 times larger than uniform electric field type. It has been shown thatthe firing voltage is largely affected by the degree of electric field concentration. But, as the difference of the maximum and minimum value of electric field in a cell increases, the luminance and luminance efficiency decrease. And, the charge variation during discharge is proportional to the area of electrode.

  • Surface corona discharge characteristics of a ac corona charged ferroelectric pellet barrier have been investigated experimentally. Electric charged stored on the surfaces of the ferroelectric pellets by a at corona discharge provide partial electric fields on the surfaces of the ferroelectric pellets, which could generate surface corona discharges on the ferroelectric pellets. This system utilizes both the surface discharges on the ferroelectric pellet barrier and the corona discharge between wire electrodes. As a result, in the case of the corona discharge with the ferroelectric pellet barrier, the mean corona current and ozone generation increase greatly, and the surface discharges on the ferroelectric pellets can be generated efficiently. It is also found that, the ferroelectric pellet barrier discharge reactor had better discharge characteristics for plasma generation than the wire-to-wire discharge reactor without pellets.

  • In this paper, we present new method to analyze the space charge effect on the electrical characteristics in polymer. It is new measurement system and analysis method that have not reported yet. By using this measurement system, we make observation to space charge accumulated on the surface of polymer at AC voltage, so it is examined to verify the correlation of space charge and partial discharge(PD). In the result of experiment, it can be known that PD pattern is related more closely to space charge accumulated on the surface of polymer than in the inner part, and applied voltage in the air is ruled by this dynamic partial discharge. Also, above critical voltage, the space charge accumulated on the surface of polymer have no effect to the magnitude of PD and the applied voltage in the air. It has been known that the electric power of the dissolution system is proportioned to the frequency and the magnitude of applied voltage, but we can know by this result of the experiment that the efficiency of the dissolution is not related to the rise of voltage above critical voltage.
