Optimal Design of a Damped Input Filter Based on a Genetic Algorithm for an Electrolytic Capacitor-less Converter

  • In this paper an optimal damped input filter is designed based on a Genetic Algorithm (GA) for an electrolytic capacitor-less AC-AC converter. Sufficient passive damping and minimum losses in passive damping elements, minimization of the filter output impedance at the filter cut-off frequency, minimization of the DC-link voltage and input current fluctuations, and minimization of the filter costs are the main objectives in the multi-objective optimization of the input filter. The proposed filter has been validated experimentally using an induction motor drive system employing an electrolytic capacitor-less AC-AC converter.

  • When Photovoltaic inverter is connected to grid and used as PVPCS (Photovoltaic Power Conditioning System), 120 Hz AC ripple occurs at the dc-link capacitor voltage. This AC ripple reduces the efficiency of PVPCS and shortens the lifetime of the capacitor. In this paper, we design a notch filter to remove AC ripple. As a result, the AC voltage ripple was removed from the dc link and the THD of the PVPCS output current with the notch filter was lowered. This notch filter is determined by the damping coefficient, the bandwidth coefficient, and the switching frequency. Among these, the switching frequency determines the switching loss and the size of the LC filter, and the PVPCS with the high switching frequency has a greater efficiency loss due to the switching loss than the efficiency improvement by the notch filter. Therefore, it is important to set the optimum switching frequency in the PVPCS with the notch filter applied. In this paper, THD and switching loss of PVPCS output current with notch filter are calculated through simulation, and cost function to calculate optimum switching frequency through data is proposed.

은나노를 부착한 활성탄 필터의 제균특성 (Antibacterial Characteristics of Silver Nano-Particles Attached to Activated Carbon Filter)

  • Activated carbon has long been used in purification processes for indoor air quality. However, the bioaerosol removal by activated carbon is not often sufficient to be used in an air control devise. In order to overcome these problems, silver nano-particles have been proposed as an antibacterial agent on the surface of activated carbon. Silver or silver ions have been known for antimicrobial activities. In this study, bioaerosol generated by using an Escherichia coli culture was introduced to a lab-scale column packed with activated carbon (AC) and silver nano-particles attached to activated carbon (Ag-AC). E. coli was almost completely removed in the Ag-AC column, whereas bioaerosol penetrated through the AC column. To determine the antibacterial effect of different filter materials in a full-scale air-handling system, another experiment was conducted using a wind tunnel equipped with a heat exchanger and three filter materials including commercial fabric, AC and Ag-AC. It was found that E. coli proliferated on the surface of the heat exchanger after 5 days, which dramatically increased bioaerosol counts in the effluent air stream. The fabric filter could not control the increased bioaerosol and most of the E. coli penetrated the filter. The bacterial removal efficiency was found to be approximately 45% in the AC filter, while the antibacterial efficiency increased to 70% using the Ag-AC filter. Consequently, the Ag-AC filter can be an effective method to control bioaerosol and improve indoor air quality.

  • 본 연구는 산업체에서 널리 사용되어지고 있는 기존의 3상 AC-DC 컨버터에서 무게와 부피를 획기적으로 줄일 수 있는 고역율 3상 AC-DC컨버터를 제안하였다. 제안된 고역율 3상 AC-DC 컨버터는 LC 필터를 제거 한 상태에서 효율성과 다탕성을 검증함으로써 경량화는 물론 저 비용을 실현할 수 있게 된다. 또한 LC 필터를 제거하였음에도 불구하고 성능 면에서 볼 때 기존의 AC-DC 컨버터와 비슷한 성능을 얻을 수 있으므로 고전력 밀도 및 고역율이 요구되는 항공 우주 분야에 응용이 가능해 질 것으로 기대된다.

은나노 소재를 이용한 공조기의 탈취 성능 향상에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Deodorization Performance Enhancement of the Air Handling Unit Using a Nano-Silver Material)

  • The filter has long been used in purification processes for indoor air quality. To determine the deodorization effect of several filter materials in a full-scale air-handling system, the present study has been carried out using a wind tunnel equipped with a heat exchanger and various filter materials, such as commercial fabric, activated carbon(AC) and silver nano-particles attached to activated carbon(Ag-AC). The experiment was conducted using an odor substance with ammonia, acetaldehyde, acetic acid. The results obtained indicate that odor substance is substantially decreased on the moisture condensation on the surface of the heat exchanger. The fabric filter has no effect for removal of odor substances. The deodorization efficiency is found to be approximately 7% in the AC filter, while the deodorization efficiency is increased up to 10% using the Ag-AC filter.

  • The harmonic reduction method of ac motor drive, ACL and DCL were commonly used, but the current distortion ratio was only 35%, thus the several different types of filters as BBHF(broad band harmonic filter), HHF(hybrid harmonic filter), NHHF(new hybrid harmonic filter) have been developed to satisfy the IEEE Std. 519 harmonic limitation. However, these filters had been limited marketability due to cost and size problems. This study suggests the methods to reduce cost and size of the harmonic filter including topologies, besides we discussed simulation results of the power system with regard to the implementation and performance of the filters.

  • 본 논문에서는 제주 한림 풍력발전소와 한림 변전소 간에 구축할 예정인 ${\pm}80kV$ 60MW HVDC 시스템의 절연 설계를 위해, 각 구성품의 절연 등급을 수 계산으로 설계하였고 PSCAD로 검증하였다. 각 부분의 절연설계 부분 중, 특히 AC측의 선로에 설치되어 고조파를 저감하는 AC Filter의 절연설계는 고려할 사항이 많다. AC측 선로의 사고, 임펄스 그리고 구성 소자인 인덕터와 커패시터의 설치 구성에 따라 AC Filter의 절연설계가 달라질 수 있다. 따라서 Filter 종류 및 주변 상황요소가 미치는 영향 등 모든 상황을 고려하여 모의하였고 수 계산으로 설계된 절연등급을 검증하였다.

HVDC 변환소의 옥외소음 분석 (A Study on Outdoor Acoustic Noise for HVDC Converter Station)

  • HVDC converter station consists of a number of equipment such as converter transformer, ac filter, thyristor valve and so on. They can be acoustic noise sources. In this paper, we analyzed the simulation results of the outdoor acoustic noise for HVDC converter station. It shows that maximum noise level in boundary of HVDC converter station exceeds regulation value. The main factors in generating maximum noise level are ac filter and converter transformer. Then we applied some soundproof countermeasures in HVDC converter station. Shielding wall is enough to reduce transformer noise level but not enough to reduce ac filter noise level. In case of ac filter, soundproof building is effective in satisfying noise level regulation in boundary of HVDC converter station. In addition, we also studied effects of season, soundproof woods, ground.

  • This paper considers the method of elimination harmonics in AC/DC converters, There are few practical methods to reduce the harmonics in AC/DC converters, particularly in filter design and control strategy. In this paper, a harmonic elimination methods are proposed, which includes hybrid PWM control strategy. These methods achieve precise output control along with the optimum performance simultaneously. The control method in this paper is developed to eliminate a fixed number of harmonics in AC to DC converter. The higher order harmonics can be easily eliminated by using filter proposed in this paper. The validity of these methods is confirmed experimentally.

  • 본 논문에서는 전압형 PWM 컨버터의 교류 입력측 LCL 필터의 설계기법을 제안한다 기존의 전압형 PWM 컨버터에서 전원계통으로 흘러 들어가는 스위칭 고조파전류를 억제하기 위해 교류 입력측에 LCL 필터를 설치하는 것은 매우 경제적이고 효과적인 방법이다 필터 커패시터로 스위칭 고조파전류를 흡수하며 공진을 억제하기 위해 수동 댐핑 저항을 이용한다 UPS용의 LCL 필터 구조 PWM 컨버터의 설계예시를 보였으며 제안한 설계기법의 타당성을 입증하기 위해 PSIM을 이용한 시뮬레이션을 행하였다.
