  • FRBR, as is new conceptual model of bibliography based on entity-relation model, direct to revision of AACR. OCLC and other bibliographic utility develop algorithm that cluster relative bibliographic records automatically, which were derived from one original work, and web-based prototype for FRBR browsing. But the state of domestic research level stay at conceptual reconsideration of FRBR model.7his study focused on analyzing FRBR algorithm and application of KORMARC database.

  • Remotely accessible information resources are greatly increasing in number and importance, but these are stored in different systems and in different formats all over the world. For this reason, the bibliographic control must be established for the network information resources. This paper intends to describe the characteristics of electronic resources. to review bibliographic elements of ISBD(ER) related to the bibliographic description of remote electronic resources. and to comparatively analyze ISBD(ER), AACR2R Chapter 9, OCLC manual. CCM Module 31, and USMARC.

  • This paper aims to improve the KCR and KORMARC for the cataloging electronic resources. In this study, therefore, at first the characteristics and kinds of electronic resources were examined as the backgrounds. Then the cataloging rules (AACR2R NCR1994, ISBD(ER) and KORMARC Descriptive Rule) and the MARC formats (MARC21, OCLC-MARC and KORMARC) were analyzed. Finally, the improvements of KCR and KORMARC for the cataloging electronic resources were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a rational guidelines of authority record for heading controls. It analyzes the headings of AACR2R and KCR2. To efficient retrieval, It suggests distinction of different persons and different corporate bodies of the same name and subject list. It also investigates the problem sand suggests the possible improvements for control of headings. The rules for heading control retains the frame from headings of cataloging rules. The guideline for heading controls will be integrated in the rules for headings.

  • This research intends to provide a basis which will lay the foundation of Cataloguing Rules for computer files by comparing the current cataloguing rules. Towards this goal, I researched both the major characteristics and various kinds of computer files. Secondly, I compared and analyzed the AACR2R and the ISBN(ER), which constitute the root and the trunk of cataloguing rules for computer no from a source of information to note area in the ISBD. This study finally examined the development process of cataloguing rules as well as the content of change in computer files.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the ways to apply describing attributes and relationships of person to Korean Cataloging Rules. In order to achieve the objective of this study, the conceptual models such as FRBR and FRAD, and the cataloging rules such as AACR2R, RDA, and KCR2 were compared and analyzed. For describing attributes of person, this study analyzed names, dates, titles, fuller form of names, genders, places, affiliations, languages, fields of activity, professions or occupations, biographical information, and identifiers of person. For describing relationships of persons, this study investigated describing relationships to persons associated with each resource, such as a work, an expression, a manifestation, and an item, and describing relationships between persons, relationships between persons and families, and relationships between persons and corporate bodies. Based on these analyses, this study suggested the application methods of describing attributes and relationships of persons in Korean Cataloging Rules.

  • This study analyzed guidelines and instructions for access points representing works and expressions in RDA. The preferred title for the work is used as the basis for constructing an authorized access point to represent a work or expression. If applicable, the authorized access point is constructed by combining the preferred title for the work to the authorized access point for the identity with principal responsibility for the work. The variant titles for the work are used as the basis for constructing variant access points to represent a work or expression. If the authorized access point is constructed by combining the preferred title for the work to the authorized access point for the identity responsible for the work, the variant access points are constructed by combining the variant titles for the work to the authorized access point, and by using only the preferred title for the work. Besides, RDA provides instructions to construct the controlled access points for special works like musical works, laws, religious works and others, but the general principles for these works are same as the above instructions. The authorized access points for works and expressions in RDA are almost same as the main entry headings in AACR2.

  • This paper is the study on the Medium Designator in Non-book materials. Main contents of this study were as follows; 1. The medium designator serves to indicate the class of material to which an item belongs. This is used to give an 'early warning' ;to the catalogue user. 2. This medium designator may be further divided into two elements ; a general material designation (GMD), for example video-recording, and a specific material designation (SMD), for example, videodisc. 3. GMD: In cataloging, a term indicating the broad class of material to which a bibliographic item belongs, such as 'motion picture', and SMD : In descriptive cataloging, a term indicating the special class of material (usually the class of physical object) to which a biblographic item belongs, such as videocassette. 4. Locating the medium designator after the title proper was not prescribed until ISBD(G) and AACR2. In pre-ISBD(G) codes, the ,early, warning type of medium designator was placed after all title information. But in AACR2, the medium designator is placed after the title proper, but before parellel title and other title information. 5. In Terminology, Two separate lists of designations are given in AACR2, l.1C1, one for British and one for North American use. The British list contains fewer terms, and uses generic categories to group together some of the North American list. 6. The problem of where to place the medium designator might be circumvented by using some kind of early alerting device other than a formal element of biblliographic description. Various alternatives have been suggested. A more popular device is the provision of symbols or 'media code' which are part of the call number and indicate the porticular medium type. 'Colour-coding' the use of used by some libraries but is now longly discouraged. 7. According to Frost. The medium designatorhas been generally reeognized as serving three functions; 1) as a statement of the nature or basic format of the item cataloged and thus as a meant of informing the user as to the type of material at hand; 2) as a description of the physical charaetistics of medium and as a means of alerting the user to equipment needed to make use of the item. 3) as a device to distinguish different physical formats which share the same title. 8. AACR2 raises some problems which decision makers have neet had to face preriously It provides a GMD for every item in the collection including books and it makes the application of any or all GMD's optional.
