  • A two parameter model of a single fictitious weak acid with unknown dissociation constant has been successfully applied to design a neutralization system for many multi-component acid streams. But there are some processes for which above two parameter model is not satisfactory due to poor approxmation of the nonlinearity of pH process. Here, for etter control of wide class of multi-component acid streams, a three parameter model of a strong acid and a weak acid with unknown dissociation constant is proposed. The model approximates effectively three types of largest gain variation nonlinearities. Based on this model a nonlinear pH control system is designed. Parameters can eeasily estimated since their combinations appear linearly in the model equations and nonlinear adaptive control system may also be constructed just as with the two parameter model.

  • A form parameter method compounds the form parameters which define the hull geometric characteristics. This method can transform a hull form by changing the form parameters. The form parameter method is a hull define method without utilization of mother ships. However it is difficult to determine these form parameters. Thus, we are complemented the form parameter method using the neural networks. It is found that the form parameter method using the neural networks is efficient in hull form design by consideration of application examples.

  • Two-dimensional stagnation point slip flow of a Casson fluid impinging normally on a flat linearly shrinking surface is considered. The modeled PDEs are changed into nonlinear ODEs through appropriate nonlinear transformations. The flow is assumed to be steady and incompressible, with external magnetic field acting on it. Similarity transformation is utilized to investigate the behavior of many parameters for heat and velocity distributions using truncation approach. The influence of buoyancy parameter, slip parameter, shrinking parameter, Casson fluid parameter on the heat profile. The effect of the magnetic parameter on the streamwise velocity profile is also investigated.

  • This article studies the effects of heat generation/absorption and thermal radiation on the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Casson fluid flow past a vertical plate through rotating porous medium with constant temperature and mass diffusion. It is assumed that the plate temperature and concentration level are raised uniformly. For finding the exact solution, a set of non-dimensional partial differential equations is solved analytically using the Laplace transform technique. The influence of various non-dimensional parameters on the velocity are discussed, including the effects of the magnetic parameter M, heat generation/absorption Q, thermal radiation parameter R, Prandtl number Pr, Schmidt number Sc, permeability of porous medium parameter, Casson fluid parameter γ, on velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles, which are discussed through several figures. It is found that velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles in the case of heat generation parameter Q, Casson fluid parameter γ, thermal Grashof number Gr, mass Grashof number Gc, Permeability Porous medium parameter K, and time t have retarding effects. It is also seen that the magnetic field M, Thermal Radiation parameter R, Prandtl field Pr, Schmidt number Sc have reverse effects on it.

  • Many modeling and calibration methods have been developed to analyze and design the biological wastewater treatment process. For the systematic use of activated sludge model (ASM) in a real treatment process, a most important step in this usage is a calibration which can find a key parameter set of ASM, which depends on the microorganism communities and the process conditions of the plants. In this paper, a standardized calibration protocol of the ASM model is developed. First, a weighted effluent quality index(WEQI) is suggested far a calibration protocol. Second, the most sensitive parameter set is determined by a sensitive analysis based on WEQI and then a parameter optimization method are used for a systematic calibration of key parameters. The proposed method is applied to a calibration problems of the single carbon removal process. The results of the sensitivity analysis and parameter estimation based on a WEQI shows a quite reasonable parameter set and precisely estimated parameters, which can improve the quality and the efficiency of the modeling and the prediction of ASM model. Moreover, it can be used for a calibration scheme of other biological processes, such as sequence batch reactor, anaerobic digestion process with a dedicated methodology.

  • This paper presents neural load torque observer tha used to deadbeat load torque observer and regulation of the compensation gun by parameter estimator. As a result, the response of PMSM follows that of the nominal plant. The load torque compensation method is compose of a neural deadbeat observer. To reduce of the noise effect, the post-filter, which is implemented by MA process, is adopted. The parameter compensator with RLSM (recursive least square method) parameter estimator is adopted to increase the performance of the load torque observer and main controller. The parameter estimator li combined with a high performance neural torque observer to resolve the problems. As a result, the proposed control system becomes a robust and precise system against the load torque and the parameter variation. A stability and usefulness, through the verified computer simulation, are shown in this paper

  • The most difficult and time-intensive issue in the successful implementation of genetic algorithms is to find good parameter setting, one of the most popular subjects of current research in genetic algorithms. In this study, we present a new efficient experimental design method for parameter optimization in a genetic algorithm for general job shop scheduling problem using the Taguchi method. Four genetic parameters including the population size, the crossover rate, the mutation rate, and the stopping condition are treated as design factors. For the performance characteristic, makespan is adopted. The number of jobs, the number of operations required to be processed in each job, and the number of machines are considered as noise factors in generating various job shop environments. A robust design experiment with inner and outer orthogonal arrays is conducted by computer simulation, and the optimal parameter setting is presented which consists of a combination of the level of each design factor. The validity of the optimal parameter setting is investigated by comparing its SN ratios with those obtained by an experiment with full factorial designs.

  • In this study, a fluidized bed particle generator was developed to generate an aerosol without supply of compressed air and to increase portability. It was assumed that the mixing ratio of the test particles and beads, the input amount, and the air flow rate supplied to the generator would have effect on the aerosol generation characteristics. The product of these three parameters was set as a characteristic parameter and particle generation characteristics according to the change of the characteristic parameter were observed. As a result, it was confirmed that the input amount of test particles and beads was not suitable as a characteristic parameter and a characteristic parameter expressed as a product of the mass mixing ratio and the air flowrate was newly defined. When the new characteristic parameter is applied, it can be confirmed that the total amount of particles generated from the particle generator is a function of the characteristic parameter. As a result of measuring the amount of particle generation by adjusting the characteristic parameter, it was confirmed that the performance required for the test particle generator for the field inspection equipment of PM-2.5 sensors could be satisfied.

  • A direct parameter extraction method using several two-port parameter equations derived in cutoff and active bias modes has been studied to obtain an accurate Gummel-Poon BJT model. First, dc model parameters were extracted from slopes and y-axis intercepts of I-V curve and Gummel plot. The pad capacitances and junction capacitance parameters were determined by using measured S-parameter sets in the cutoff bias. The resistance and transit time parameters were extracted by using measured S-parameter sets in the active bias.
